Shimano CUES 6000 vs SRAM Apex groupset for a gravel/all road Trek bike. $300 difference between the two choices. Having trouble seeing the difference between them. Thanks for your comments...šŸšµā€ā™‚ļø

The thing cannot handle a 7-hour ride. This is a not-ready-for-primetime product.

Selle Anatomica Review

I just had a second one snap on me and they offered me a 15% discount to buy a new one. The quality of the leather is decent, but the metal part of the saddle is terrible quality for the price. I’m super disappointed in that and the customer service.

I am looking to get my very first race bike so before I buy a new one (they can get pretty expensive) I wanna try a second hand one to see if it’s for me. I am eyeing two bikes and want to get some advice on them. I am looking to just ride it for fun with almost no hills (where I live we don’t have them) and I want to be as comfortable as possible. I am a very experienced ā€˜normal’ biker since it’s my way of transportation everywhere. What would you recommend and why? This is the description given:

Beautiful Trek (One Series) 1.2 2013 road bike, still in excellent condition, very lightly used (turned out it wasn’t quite ā€œour thingā€). Frame size 54. Includes water bottle holder, mini pump, and repair kit under the saddle. Original tires still on. Shimano 18-speed. (This bike goes for €500 which seemed like a lot to me (so if you guys have good reasons I can give to lower the price please let me know))

(This one goes for €380)The Vitus Razor VRX Road Bike is a comfortable and sporty road bike with a 6061 alloy aluminum frame and a full carbon fork for a light and agile ride. The bike is designed with a sporty yet comfortable geometry, suitable for both beginners and experienced riders looking for a reliable and durable road bike. Features of the Vitus Razor VRX: Frame: AL6061 aluminum, double-butted for strength and comfort Fork: Carbon, providing good shock absorption and light handling Gears: Shimano Tiagra 20-speed (2x10) groupset, with reliable and precise shifting Brakes: Tektro R317 caliper brakes Wheels: 700c with Shimano RS010 rims Tires: Schwalbe Lugano K-Guard, 28 mm wide Weight: Approximately 9.9 kg Colors: Black and red Sizes: Available up to 54 cm (other sizes also available according to sources) Handlebar, stem, seatpost, and saddle: All Vitus brand and made of aluminum The bike combines road bike performance with comfort, featuring internal cable routing and a carbon fork that absorbs vibrations well. It is suitable for those starting out in road cycling or anyone looking for a sporty, durable bike that remains comfortable over longer distances.

Trunk bag options?

I am a casual rider and have had an over the handlebars basket for many years. It’s time for a change as the basket prevents me from using my light, phone mount and other accessories that sit on my handlebars. I am completely overwhelmed by the options for trunk bags. I probably need two different bags— one for a short ride to carry a few snacks, tube, sunscreen etc (like what I keep in my little handbag bag) and a second large trunk bag for day trips to the beach where I’m carrying lunches, towels, groceries etc.

Do I get a regular basic rack and then attach different bags with Velcro/bungees? Or do I get a Topeak MTX system? Or a MIK rack? Theft is not an issue and I rarely remove the bag when I get to my destination. Help please.

Wahoo bug is fixed, update available

Just a heads up for those with older devices who were affected by the recent bug. Update is available, I did a ride this morning and all seems to be back to normal.

Edit: Only Bolt v1 and Roam v1 fixed so far, original Elemnt still in progress

Per most recent email: ā€œWe have now released the fix for BOLT 1 and ROAM 1 computers via firmware update that should resolve the issue going forward* for those models. A firmware update for original ELEMNT computers is currently in development.ā€

Thanks for the advice!! Fixed a flat

On Friday, I read a post and thread about struggling to get tires back on the wheel after changing the tube. That evening, I went for a ride and got a flat.

I've changed flats before, but my road bike has Gatorskins and I can vividly remember back in the Fall trying to get those %^&*(()& tires on my bike the night before a bike event. Hands raw, curse words flying - almost crying. Thankfully, the Bike Doctor at the event got them on for me and made it look easy.

Thanks to the post and thread here, I learned to make sure the bead is in the CENTER of the wheel, and HOLY CRAP it worked like a charm!!

I had a few nice cyclists stop and offer to help, but I was able to say, "I've got this. Thanks."

THANK YOU!

So I was wondering is there an acceptable sock color to wear and do I really have to use clipless peddles?

Big Bag Student Design Project

Hi all! I am designing a bike bag to help with road safety concerns as well as community-building aroundĀ Bike Buses. If you or anyone you know participates in a Bike Bus to get kids to school,Ā I would love to hear your thoughts on what it may need!Ā https://forms.gle/ycgv6wcsKkxqRjKT8

There are three main questions I am exploring...

1.Ā What are your main 3 considerations withĀ Road SafetyĀ on rides with kids?

2.Ā What are your main 3 considerations forĀ Entertainment & EngagementĀ on rides with kids?

3.Ā What items do you carry on rides?

Thank you all so much! Hope your rides are full of lots of fun and safe amounts of sun.

This was given to me as a gift. I'm homeless so a bike is a necessity. But this is overkill. I'm about to sell it and was wondering what would be a good price? I am going to sell it to someone who can afford to do the proper maintenance. Plus I am tired of the cops getting called on me because someone thinks I stole it. I need a practical more easy to keep up bike.

Novice trying to adjust saddle height

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello all

I have just inherited a Dawes Discovery 401 hybrid bike. I am a cycling novice, having learned to ride a bike at 37 years before my kid got his own wheels.

The saddle height is too high for me and I don't know how to adjust it. I've found reference to unscrewing the saddle post binder bolt, but I don't know which one from this photo is the correct one to adjust! From viewing photos of 401s online there is only one and it's obvious.

I thought it would have been the top one but I can't get the clamp to budge once the bolt is unsrewed. Maybe the post just needs lubricant? Any advice would be appreciated.

Paint Chip Fix?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Newer to riding. Learned my lesson transporting a couple of bikes during my recent move.

This isa Specialized Diverge E5 Elite. Aluminum frame. Some paint chips from bikes bumping on the car rack… they appear to be only cosmetic, but would like to seal and prevent any further damage/spreading.

Thoughts or suggestions? Do I need anything more than a touch up?

Inexpensive riding shorts for under cargo shorts?

Hey all. I currently ride with 7mesh foundation bike boxer briefs and they work OK, but are already falling apart. The level of padding in them is minimal and I think i'd like a bit more. But moreso, i'd like something a bit more durable. They're very thin which makes them breath well, but that's also the downside to them. Does anybody have any recommendations for "under" shorts riding shorts?

Shimano Cues broken derailleur

I have a new cheap mountain bike and the derailleur broke after about 5 miles of riding. It’s a 9 speed Shimano Cues, should I just swap it with the same model or is there an upgrade option without changing other parts on the bike? I was riding yesterday and noticed the chain was loud, then saw a lot of ā€œslapā€ so I started shifting gears to see if it got better in a higher gear and it locked up while I was pedaling. I jumped off and saw the derailleur was a twisted mess. I haven’t been around new bikes for years, I’m very out of the loop with new bikes, parts, and tech. Any help is appreciated.

Bikes under $200?

Hello Reddit! I'm a freshman in high school and my old bike broke down earlier this summer. I got a job a couple days ago to help pay for courses for a school i'm applying to this fall. I'd rather not have my parents buy me a new bike, mostly because it was my fault that I broke my old one. I took it down a steep hill and had to swerve left to avoid traffic. I fell off, the tires were popped, seat was wrecked, etc. My parents weren't mad at me, but I'd still feel guilty if they bought me a new bike lol.

My budget is around 125-200 USD, should I buy a new bike off Amazon/Walmart/Target or look into FB marketplace? I plan on mostly using it to exercise, study breaks, hanging with friends, strava, etc. I'm not too big on the specs, I mainly just want something that won't break right away. Thanks in advance

Identity a SCOTT Speedster

Could someone help me identify this Scott Speedster? I’m wondering if it’s the original setup and what year it’s from. I got it at a flea market; it used to be the secondary bike of the seller’s father… it’s in overall good condition, and the gears shift properly.

I paid €130 for it, was it worth it?

Thanks!

My bike feels significantly slower after getting a tune up

Post image
103 Upvotes

I just picked up this bike about a month ago off of FB marketplace. Typically I’d ride the bike in a middle gear and be perfectly fine. My bike would go remarkably fast, and when biking with friends I’d pedal half as much as they would.

I decided to take it to my local bike shop two weeks ago because i needed new pedals and I figured it would be a good idea to get the bike checked out since the original rider hadn’t used it in a few years.

When I picked it up from the tune up, they told me they had to change the chain and gears, and I ended up going back and needed new tubes as well. However, since the day I picked up my bike it rides significantly slower than before. Going up hill I’m almost struggling, and I can’t find a gear that feels comfortable at all. One is too easy but the next one is too hard.

I’m not sure what the problem could be because the shop said the bike is in great condition. Any ideas on what could have happened that is causing my bike to be significantly slower?

I’m just bummed because it’s become a lot less enjoyable to not have a gear that I feel comfortable riding in!

Trek FX2 or marlin

Hey. I need some help here.

I have a TopFuel 5 and im currently using it for MTB but i started doing a lot of road biking 15-25 milles (for exercise)

I want to get a different bike for that because MTB tires are really expensive to destroy them on the road 🤣

The question is should i get a Trek FX2 (700$) with those skinny tires or should i get a Marlin 4 600and swap the tires for slick tires?

Help finding a bike

Hey everyone,

Looking for a beginner multi-gear bike for a novice cycler. My brother has recently retired and has started riding his bike, which is basically a beach cruiser with no gears. He is doing great, riding over an hour daily, a minimum of five days a week. In the two months that he has done this, he is now upwards of 20 miles a day. He lives in a beach town and usually rides on a neighborhood trail although I see him taking this on streets given the chance. I know that purchasing a bike can be personal but he would never buy himself one. We see this as a transitional bike for him. He eventually may want something off road, or road bike, but the addition of gears would be helpful.Ā

Looking for suggestions on a good bike. Would like to spend $750 to $1k. If we can get closer to $750, we would like to purchase additional equipment, ie. light, phone mount, etc.Ā

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My uncle gave me his old vintage road bike and it is SO fun to ride. Being a mtb'er my whole life and commuting on roads with nothing but those chunky tyres make me appreciate the incredibly low rolling resistance this bike has. Oh, and it looks sooo good. I love me some thin steel tubes

Is this Specialised Sirrus worth $400?

Looking for a local second hand bike - gravel or MTB just for my partner to use to ride alongside me on runs whilst I'm marathon training, doesn't need to be crazy fast (although I have run 2:24), but needs to be easy to put in the back of a car and reliable.

Here's the description for this Sirrus I've found on FB Marketplace. Every second hand dealer nearby there's nothing that fits under $600 which feels a lot for what we're needing it for:

Description: Specialized Sirrus size large, Shimano tiagra components 2x10,axis rims with low miles crossroads 770 x 38c tires, bottle holder & tire pump.Very low miles, excellent condition$400 cash, local pick up
