I've been looking for YEARS for bones and as for now, the only thing I've found in the wild is one broken (probably deer) bone and a crushed bird skeleton (+ one super adorable fully preserved bird that the house cat stole from me and I've never been able to find again. I curse you, cat. I will never leave my bones untouched around you. I'm probably gonna have a mental breakdown if i think about the lost bird skeleton any more so let's move on.) the thing is that we have two big ponds, a forest, and a whole ahh overgrown field where deers live. (all private property so i doubt anyone would be taking the bones) not to mention the huge forest around us. I feel like I've explored everything over and over again. No roadkill, no skulls, no stuff in the forest, nothing in the abandoned hiding places. I feel like I'm going insane at this point. What have i done to be so unlucky? I've watched almost every "where to find bones" video at this point. Yes, i know. Holy yap. But anyways, thus i have come to reddit to ask...
Any tips on where to look? (I look under every tree, everything. And no, i don't think i can go to any far away places known for bones since I'd have to tell my parents and they aren't too fond of me collecting bones since one of my parents believes that it dishonors the animal which i quite frankly disagree with but don't want to rant about how blah blah, you get the point.)

I got this at a history (mostly fossils and some ww2 things) related museum. It had huge full fossils which was really cool to see, even a lab completely dedicated to the woolley mammoth! At the gift shop there were a lot of cool fossils but this one stood out. A "hielbeen (Calcaneum)", if I'm translating it right that means "heel bone (Calcaneus)".
Don't know if it counts as a bone or fossil, but it's around 40.000 years old and looks/feels very funny

Found this big old boy (guessing based on sagittal crest) in the woods yesterday, he’s about 24cm/9.5 inches long, wondering if anyone had suggestions on breeds he could be? I know breed can’t be determined accurately from a skull, just curious what people think. Also I assume he was shot just behind his eye and it exited just behind his hard palate. We don’t really have stray animals around here so I imagine it was someone putting down a pet/working dog.

We found it 1.5 meters deep, in good condition. Don't think it's a cow because of the four toes! The snout looked kinda long like a boar (not sure though) but we couldn't get the whole thing out without breaking it.
Thoughts?

I live in NC. The western part to be more specific. We have lots of wildlife and unfortunately that comes with lots of road kill. Was wondering if anyone knew the legalities of picking up dead animals for their bones.
