found in lebanon, indiana underneath a shed. sorry for the bad angles, couldn’t get any better pics because its sitting across the fence in my neighbors property. if i were to take the skull, what cleaning process would i need to go through at this stage?

I am currently macerating a cow skull which will need to be degreased and whitened. Is the soaking in soapy water the best method to degrease a skull this size without spending insane amount of money? Also, for whitening I assume that volume 40 peroxide is the only way to go?

I’ve been commenting on some posts here and there and I really love this community. People seem pretty nice here. I just felt like sharing the newest addition to my collection. I’m sure someone smarter than me can explain the two inch long molars. This guy is still a little oily so I’m about to give him a soap bath and a hydrogen peroxide soak.

I tried finding similar posts or good answers in this sub before, but couldn't find anything helpful for my case... So there are these little black spots in many of the weasel bones I have, even after whitening with hydrogen peroxide (3 %, nearly 24 hours). They are very visible if the bones are wet, but you can also find them if everything is completely dry. Are they something I should be worried about for the future? Is it mold, is it trapped dirt? Was my degreasing process not complete and it's simply fat that just looks suspicious? I hope you can give me some answers because it's driving me insane...

To put this picture in context, I was in Japan exploring Aokigahara, better known as The Suicide Forest. It's not widely known that due to the bad reputation of the forest, many hotels on the edge of the forest, and some even in the forest have closed down. As I was exploring one with an amazing rooftop view of the forest, i discovered this dead critter - I've always wondered what it was - any ideas?

I've never collected bones before, but I'm assuming these belonged to an adult cat based on the teeth and size. I got all the dirt and remaining fur off with water, dawn dish soap, and a toothbrush. They're currently soaking in water + soap and I plan to change the water whrn it gets cloudy. Is this the right way to go about cleaning them? I want to touch them without gloves and not be paranoid about catching diseases.

I would also like to know how I should go about displaying them. I was thinking about putting the loner pieces in a small jar with dried flowers, and displaying the mandible. I hope that isn't disrespectful. I want to honor what these bones came from, and I love cats (assuming this is one).

Found this beauty scattered all over the place. I’ve never found such a complete skeleton in the wild before so I’m super excited. Clearly a small carnivore (thinking fox) has been eating away at this and dragging bits and pieces around. Victoria, Australia.

Hey everyone, I found this bone today by the Guadalupe River in Comal County, Texas (Spring Branch to be specific). I’d estimate the length around ~7ish inches. Can anyone help ID what the animal might be? I’m wondering if it could have been an animal that died in the big July flood. Thanks!

This mummified? skeleton was found in a barn in michigan. I can’t see the skull quite well enough to tell what it is. My hunch is that it’s probably a raccoon but I’m curious if anyone else is able to identify it.

Hi! This is my first time posting in this subreddit, and I'm honestly also pretty new to reddit as a whole. Did use advice on this subreddit to help clean up a car skeleton and it turned out super well though, so I thought I'd try and ask about my current dilemma!

For the past several days I've been walking past a squirrel carcass on my way to work.. actually got to see some turkey vultures going to town on it which was super cool! Didn't pick it up immediately since I didn't know how much more the birds were going to eat and didn't want to take their lunch... Haven't seen them since however, and what is left is a fairly crispy set of squirrel bones! I've never really dealt with something that is both super dry and also still with a fair share of hair on its bones... My plan right now is to macerate (potentially with enzyme detergent if the store has it!) but I wanted to see if this sounds like the correct move for people that are a bit more experienced... I've also seen people saying defleshing is helpful to move the process along.. should I wait until the guy is rehydrated to try and remove some of that? I'm a bit worried about trying to take anything off right this second given just how dry it is...

(Also sorry I'm actively at the store right now getting a tub for maceration so roommates do not kill me for bringing a dead animal into the garage! I can totally upload more/better pics to imgur and link them here when I get home if need be:))

My mom just text me this photo freaking out. She found it in a Tostito’s bag she just opened. It is small, about the size of her whole thumb finger. She’s terrified it’s a rat or something, not just a chicken bone. Any help would be appreciated.
