Song exploder recap
Justin and Jim-E Stack sat and spoke about Day One for 90 minutes then there were a few questions from the audience. Nothing very surprising usual song exploder type episode with a lot of samples played.

I thought it was cool that the person who wrote the original sample (and basically the entire song) Sam Tsang was in the audience and got some cool shout outs!

Well this is a downer post, I attended and freaking loved it. Getting a glimpse under the hood and insight into the making of and lyrics is something we almost never get from Justin. His creative process is incredible, the work he puts in, the collaboration, the attention to detail, all of it. He’s a 1 of 1 artist.

Hah I literally shot this off quick right as it ended to give people who were waiting and wondering what it was a quick recap…my bad for not expressing my deepest feelings about the night

I really enjoyed it, there was a lot from it that I really took to heart
First and foremost I’m happy to hear Justin is through his dark times. He said the album was healing for him and that was really resonating for me.
He and Jim-E Stack are seemingly very close and they have a tough time even describing their bond
The song itself, Day One, was a progression over years developed from a piece of music sent to Justin years ago. The piece overall is a song that Justin feels to have made for himself (tho he says it was also made for other men his age searching for something).
He brought the musicians he loved and highlighted them solo and as a group to finalize it. It was so nice to see him enjoying the song there, he truly looks like he loves it.
He LOVES Bonnie Rait and he said the song is a passing the torch if sorts to Dijon ( whom he speaks incredibly high of {side bar-he speaks so highly of everyone, often referring to Jim-E as “handsome} and says he’s doing a lot that only he’s doing and he’s really something special).
It was a really nice experience for me and I took a lot from it.
I spent a lot of the conversation in tears as this song resonates so much for me, especially after my brother in law took his life in late June. It felt like it gave me closure to hear a lot of the thoughts I had about the lyrics were how they were meant to be taken and it was a self win I needed more than I can explain
Thank you to everyone who put this together, Thank you Justin, youre never going to fade away
