Song Exploder Live (my take)

The conversation itself spanned around 90 minutes and was a mix of Justin and Jim-Es relationship growth, what Bon Iver is to Justin (mostly a mask) and then largely over the building of Day One (ofc it’s song exploder)

I really enjoyed it, there was a lot from it that I really took to heart

First and foremost I’m happy to hear Justin is through his dark times. He said the album was healing for him and that was really resonating for me.

He and Jim-E Stack are seemingly very close and they have a tough time even describing their bond

The song itself, Day One, was a progression over years developed from a piece of music sent to Justin years ago. The piece overall is a song that Justin feels to have made for himself (tho he says it was also made for other men his age searching for something).

He brought the musicians he loved and highlighted them solo and as a group to finalize it. It was so nice to see him enjoying the song there, he truly looks like he loves it.

He LOVES Bonnie Rait and he said the song is a passing the torch if sorts to Dijon ( whom he speaks incredibly high of {side bar-he speaks so highly of everyone, often referring to Jim-E as “handsome} and says he’s doing a lot that only he’s doing and he’s really something special).

It was a really nice experience for me and I took a lot from it.

I spent a lot of the conversation in tears as this song resonates so much for me, especially after my brother in law took his life in late June. It felt like it gave me closure to hear a lot of the thoughts I had about the lyrics were how they were meant to be taken and it was a self win I needed more than I can explain

Thank you to everyone who put this together, Thank you Justin, youre never going to fade away

Ps Justin said this was never meant to be an album he was just making music and this transpired, he also says he won’t (but then laughs and said he probably will) make another album in the future
