Solved! I just successfully repaired 3 bent CPU pins

Posting here because my friends were unimpressed.

The plan was to change the thermal paste on my CPU, however, I found that the cooling block was literally glued onto the CPU, and my attempt to remove it pulled the CPU out of the socket.

I attempted to use a hair dryer and twist the CPU off, but it wouldn't budge. So, then I tried using a dull knife to pry it off. I got it off but then noticed 3 bent pins.

Using a small business card, I gently worked each pin back into place and was able to reseat the CPU successfully. Computer booted and all looks good.

Very stressful two hours of my life

Build Help Where is monitor tech these days? I've only ever used 1080p 24" monitors

Is it worth spending some money on a 1440p? Or something higher res, 4k?

I guess my monitors are 60hz, would I see any substantial difference in going with something that is more capable?

Discussion Should I give my boyfriend a monitor?

Hello, I hope you are all doing well. As you can see from the title, I want to give my boyfriend a monitor as a gift since he is starting his professional internship (his first job ). He is a computer scientist (the best of his generation) and, well, he doesn't have a monitor yet, so I think one would be very helpful to him. I feel that he totally deserves it for all his hard work and for being such a great student and person. I told a friend that I wanted to give my boyfriend a monitor, but she said no, that he hasn't given me anything that expensive and that it was too expensive and that I should buy one for myself because I don't have one (I'm also studying computer science, I'm halfway through my degree, lol). And honestly, it made me think. Honestly, I'm not rich, but I've been saving up because I want to give my boyfriend a nice gift to thank him for everything he's done for me (he's my first boyfriend and we've been together for two years. He almost always pays for everything when we go out to eat because he likes to pay and not split it 50/50, although sometimes I pay , hehe). I also know that my parents wouldn't like to know that I'm giving my boyfriend a monitor, so I'll probably do it behind their backs. I'd like to know what you think or if you think I should buy him something else (that's what my friend suggested, since my idea is to help him gradually build a nice setup).?

Troubleshooting MSI Project Zero b850 gaming plus bent JFP2 pins

Upvotes

Building a new PC and as soon as I pulled this board out the box noticed the JFP2 pins are bent.

I don’t think I even need to plug anything in here? Should I bend em back, does it matter?

Build Help How good is DLSS and MFG on the 5070ti at 4k?

Im eyeing up a 5070ti and 9800x3d combo to get back into PC after many years. I just have a couple questions before i pull the trigger.

Is the card good enough for 4k? How good is DLSS really?

I’ve seen the benchmarks, but these videos can’t really communicate how DLSS actually looks and pretty much anything with ray tracing requires it. PSSR looks pretty bad in many games to my eyes on PS5 Pro but i’ve heard DLSS ranges from indistinguishable to really good on PC depending on setting. Does DLSS at 4k look better than 1440p DLAA for example?

Im also getting a QD-OLED 4K 240hz, and i know those framerates aint getting hit unless i use MFG or it’s an older or esports title which is fine with me but how does MFG actually perform cause all i see is people shitting on it.

And finally, will this card last at least two GPU generations at 4k? I know this one is impossible to know but what’s been the average lifespan of these cards the last few gens to at least keep regular ray tracing on at 4k 60+ with most settings on high.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help!!

Build Help Problema ryzen 5800x3d e rtx 5070 ti

Upvotes

build:

asus tuf 3080 cambiata con msi 5070ti ventus

ryzen 5800x3d

ram ballistix 2x 16 ddr4 3200

2 ssd da 1 tb wd black da 7000 mb/s

mobo msi x570 gaming plus

aio liquid thermalright 240

alimentatore corsair rm1000e 1000w

non so piu dove sbattere la testa.

Build Help Motherboard ARGB - ASUS TUF

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am building a desktop and want to use the ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS. The thing is that I will install Kubuntu on it, so I need ARGB headers to control the RGB without proprietary software

Now for some reason I cannot find online a clear answer wether it has ARGB headers and how many. Can someone confirm it has three of them?

Thank you!

Build Help Just built my first PC and the case button does not turn on the pc

Upvotes

I have tested the 24 pin from the psu and the fan spun. I was unable to get the power switch to short so I am afraid I shorted my motherboard. I'm not sure how I would have done that though. I've checked all connections at least 3 times. Standby light will work but nothing else when I actually go to start the pc. Don't know what to do from here and I am super disappointed in myself.

Solved! Why is Windows stuck at 100% update progress?

Upvotes

Windows did an update and everything went well and it finished. Or do I thought because even though it's been 100% done for 25 minutes now it's still slimming on the update screen. I feel like the right thing is to restart but I am afraid to do so because it says not to.

After what's now half an hour of the same losing screen it automatically restarted, went back to "updates are underway" and the booted windows. Sorry for the post.

Build Help Case for 2 radiators

Upvotes

Does anyone have a recommendation for a case that fits 2 radiators? I have a Montech King 95 pro right now which I love but I think I’m gonna buy the Astral or Suprim LC but unfortunately this case can only fit one radiator. I did think about switching my aio to an air cooler but I hate how air coolers look.

Build Help Is 5700X3D worth upgrading over 5600X

Upvotes

I currently have a 3070 and 5600X in my system. However, since I play in 1080p I often encounter CPU bottleneck which gets worse if I enable any kind of ray tracing. 5700X3D seems to be the only available option for a reasonable price, 5800X3D costs ~$700 where I live so that's not an option. Will 5700X3D provide substancial increase in performance or should I save up and go for AM5? Tho I'll only be able to afford something like 7500f or 7600 with no 3D cache.

Build Help Motherboard for Ryzen 5 9600x? And some recommendations?

Upvotes

I'm planning to build a PC preferably under $1200 and have already picked some parts that I think will be good.

CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F [$146.48], Ryzen 5 9600x [$209.67] or the Ryzen 5 7600x [$172.89], I'm more into the 9600x here though

GPU: Rx 9060 XT 16GB [$503.05-$547.17] I know it's overprice, but the lowest I can find it is at $430 but sold out 😞 😕

Motherboard: ?, I can't find the right one but preferably something under $230

Ram: 2x16gb(32GB) Preferably something with 6000Mhz and CL30, I'm trying to find one for this myself.

PSU: Corsair RM850x Black 850W Fully Modular 80+ Gold [$165.18]

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler, PA120 [$34.26]

Case:? GPU Length 320mm+ My options are: -Tecware Flow M TG mATX Case with (4X120mm Fan) [$36.45] -Cooler Master mATX Computer Case Elite 301 Lite mATX Mini Tower Tempered Glass [$38.25] -Montech Computer PC Case Air 100 Lite Minimalist Design Tempered Glass[$40.31]

Build Help Help me decide if my pick of components is the best that suits my needs.

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Im currently planning on making a new PC build, fit some new components in my existing PC. I want to figure out if I have chosen "good" components or is there something that could better fit my stuff that i will leave (for now) in the PC.

I currently play on a curved Samsung 27in monitor, not sure what the exact model is but i paid ~250€ back in 2018 or 2019. Im thinking about changing some components now that will help with better cooling (GPU gets very hot while playing favourite games.

My current case is Zalman Z9 Neo with the glass/plastic panel and I suspect that its simply too small for a good airflow.

I also have some Bitforce fans that are okay but nothing special.

Current PC components that stay in the PC (for now):

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti (sometimes when the GPU is at high usage, the image flickers - Im thinking about simply getting a better airflow, and the GPU itself is more or less enough, as i play in 2k, usually high or ultra graphics). Favorite game is Hitman 3 WOA, I dont play many games on PC so GPU upgrade is not a priority.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (stock Wraith cooler, will be replacing it for better cooling and quiter work)

MOBO: ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming (AM4, PCIe 4.0) - seems enough for now, or?

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4, 3000 MHz - so far satisfied with it

SSD: Samsung 500GB (Nvme)

HDD: Toshiba 2TB 3.5"

PSU: Fortron Hyper 700W Silver

🆕 PC components I have or am planning to get:

PC case: Fractal Design North XL Black, Tempered glass - already shipped, will be delivered in a day or two - I opted for XL as i can fit it on my desk, looks great IMO, better airflow. Im thinking about making the build that is as quiet as possible, I know there are better cases for that and Im aware that some people talk about the quality, that the case is a bit flimsy, but on the other hand many people are happy with it.

Vents: Lian Li UNI FAN SL Infinity 120 black (how many of those am I going to need for best performance?) I was thinking about getting 140mm fans, but many people report droning sound @higer RPM). Maybe i should combine 120/140mm? I really like the subtle infinity lights, as Im going for a subtle RGB build that i will set to white or amber orange.

CPU cooler: DeepCool AK620 Digital Pro - can I sync it with my LianLi vents? Id like the colors on the RGB strip to match - Im thinking either this or DarkRock 5 pro...i know the DarkRock is marginally quiter

Currently I have a DVD reader, but I will throw that out as the new case doesnt support it. I will replace it with an external reader, not a big deal, i even dont use DVDs that much anyway.

  1. PSU: originally thought about getting something with 850w gold or platinum but, there is ~100€ difference between this one and 1200 or 1300w gold/platinum, so why not get the more ppwerful one as I will probably be buying more powerful GPU/CPU/MOBO in the next few months and a bigger monitor (32inch 4k)

  2. SSD - as of now, I have 2TB hdd in my PC and 500GB SSD, i will possibly get the samsung 990pro with a heatsink 2TB for now and add more SSD if needed. I play many games on steam, but not at thr same time installed, so I think 2TB will be enough.

Im thinking about making a bigger GPU/CPU/MOBO upgrade next yeat, but for now, great airflow and optimized storage are the priority. I also got myself a duster for PC so I can clean it from dust myself every month or so. The exact model is CompuCleaner Xpert. I paid a hefty price for it, but I will also use it do dust and clean my keyboard, but also my car and household if needed.

Current peripherals are;

Keyboard: Roccat Vulcan 121 (non wireless) Mouse: Roccat Kain 200 AIMO (wireless)

Happy with both, although I sometimes have problems with some keys on the Vulcan, I kind of solved that with pouring some ISO alcohol on the keys.

Need some advice if those components are okay or is there a better choice that fits my needs.

Discussion Decent RAM

What RAM is good? I heard, like, that Adata has an unsuccessful version because it lacks thermal pads, which causes the chips to degrade. Are there any other similar candidates? Is Chinese stuff worth it? - kingbank for example

Build Help 12vHPWR Cable

Upvotes

Hi all, just after some clarification.

Just purchased a 5070ti to upgrade from my 3060 12gb, I built my pc approx 18 months ago to a standard whereabouts all I would do in the near future is upgrade gpu. My PSU supports 12vHPWR with its own cable however the cable has 450w written on it, and to my understanding it should be a 600w cable. Is this acceptable to use or am I better off with the 3x 6+2 cables into GPU adapter?

PSU model is a Silverstone HELA 850R platinum, GPU is MSI Gaming Trio 5070ti OC.

Really strange I had assumed all 12vHPWR were the same, thanks in advance!

Build Help What would be a better choice?

Upvotes

Hello! I’d like to know which of these two PC builds would be a better choice not just for now, but also in terms of future-proofing. My current computer is already 7 years old, so I definitely need an upgrade. I’ve been given two builds that both reach the limit of my budget, and I’d like to understand which one is the smarter long-term investment and why. I like to give a try games like "God of War Ragnarok" "Cyberpunk 2077" or others games.

Build #1

  • Case: Endorfy Signum 300 ARGB
  • CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 650W
  • GPU: Palit GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Dual 8GB GDDR7 DLSS4
  • Storage: WD Blue SN5000 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe
  • RAM: GoodRam IRDM DDR5, 32GB, 6000MHz, CL30
  • Motherboard: ASRock B850M-X WiFi R2.0
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8400F, 4.2 GHz, 16MB, OEM

Build #2

  • Case: Silver Monkey X Croft
  • CPU Cooler: Silver Monkey X CRISP DUAL 2x120mm
  • PSU: Deepcool PL550D 550W 80 Plus Bronze
  • GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT Pure OC 16GB GDDR6
  • Storage: ADATA 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe LEGEND 900
  • RAM: GoodRam IRDM PRO Deep Black, 32GB (2x16GB), 3600MHz, CL18
