Advice for fancy take out?

My wife and I have an anniversary tomorrow. We were supposed to be out of town with parents to watch our kids for the night, but had to cancel due to a sick kid yesterday. So... We're going to be unexpectedly at home. Are there any places that offer takeout that are a bit fancier than the normal places? Anywhere people would recommend?

M Sushi does takeout IIRC and it’ll travel well.

Nothing says love like the burnt end nachos. I’m literally not joking since they are awesome and perfect for sharing.

I love Kokyu but it isn't fancy.

Bleu Olive has a great menu, and their takeout game is first rate

Sigh.... one of us has an allergy to olive oil, but thanks for the recommendation!

Not sure what’s open Labor Day, but like a previous post mentioned, M Sushi travels very well. We also have done take-out from Juju, which boxes up nicely.

Seconding! Their food travels well and it’s been a go-to for me for fancy takeout :)

Check with Hawthorne and Wood. They have takeout, but dunno if they’re open today/tomorrow.

Kabab and Curry House on 9th. The samosas are made in house and they give you three different kinds of chutney. Try the Kadai! Heck, try anything. It's soooo good.

JuJu…trust me. Make sure you get dessert too. Brown butter pot de crème is our fave.

Why not save the fancy dinner for another night? Even takeout from Hurons will be a sub par experience. Get something you both like and relax. It’ll be a story in a few years.

I second this. But if it doesn't appeal, steak houses are the play: a filet mignon and potatoes with a nice bottle of red wine will travel well and not suffer from temperature at serving, while still feeling fancy and decadent.

Nana steak near downtown or Ruth's Chris near Southpoint would be on my list. Wine from hope valley wine shop or wine authority.

We just did our rescheduled anniversary date today. Tandoori bites in durham had really great food and I'm sure does takeout. Similar situation, kids were sick last weekend so had to reschedule.

Vin Rouge does take out of their menu and it is delicious! High end French food, amazing steaks, and they package their fries (if you get steak frites or mussels frites) in a way that they stay crispy.

Oh also Little Bull does take out. Great high-end Mexican Asian fusion.

Redstart Foods - their restaurant is called TAKEAWAY and they should be open today.

I like Lime and Lemon take out (indian food) and it travels super well! Also, I love nantucket and get a huge slice of cake to celebrate! Both of those are sorta my favorites although we have also done Vici Ristobar for birthday celebrations and that is really super good and travels well too! Happy Anniversary!!

Anjappar punches well above its weight class in my book.

Post-Covid a lot of places have continued offering takeout whether or not they say they do. I'd say call whichever places you like to eat and ask, but I guess the real complication is you're trying to find a place that's open on a holiday on a Monday.
