Calvin Adultman after a long day at the business factory just wants to come home and watch some rated R movies to unwind.

He spent a long day doing a business, maybe later he’ll unwind with an alcohol.

I’d just wait for video, swap the tapes with a Disney flick and hope the clerk was cool about it.

You have to be eighteen to get in. So what type of theater was this exactly?

Any type of theatre. You have to be 17 to get into R-rated movies in the US

Fwiw waterson is pretty explicitly referring to 70s Sleeze Grindhouse/Sexploitation films, like Vampyros Lesbos so this would go a bit beyond your typical R rating.
I used to think these were just purposefully way over the top unrealistic names he used for “bad” movies Calvin isn’t allowed to watch, before I discovered nope he’s very much referring to a real subset of film.

Full movie is free on YouTube if anybody wants to see it. The soundtrack is actually amazing if you like psy-rock

Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood would fit into that genre too right?
1
u/NervousTumbleweed Nov 03 '21
It’s kind of an homage to that genre. The Love Witch is similar. They’re nodding to those movies but the actual content is not as sleezy/exploitative.
Edit: btw I don’t mean to use sleezy/exploitative as necessarily derogatory adjectives, even though that’s what you’d associate them with. They’re important within the history of film imo, It’s just how these films are described.

One of the greatest disappointments of my misspent youth was the refusal of my parents to permit me to see Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello in "Bikini Beach". Every week when it was time for all my friends to go to the local theater and then for pizza, they consulted "Parents" magazine, to which they had a subscription. That destroyer of all fun arrived every month. It is still being published.

I mean there's The Turning by Girlsway. It was bit weird tho. But decent enough if you skip the plot, as usual.

Wait. How did Calvin purchase his copy of that Scrambled Debutants album? Wouldn't there be a age-gate on that, too?

I thought Venusian Vampire Vixens was better, personally
