I left Cape Town to live overseas in 2003, I still tear up every time I see that view on arrival.

The smell of the city also gets me as soon as I get off the plane.

I know, it's hard to put into words exactly what makes it different, but it's such a strong nostalgic feeling.

Fact, Joburg stinks. Literally.

It's not just the smells or the view while landing, it's the warm hello or welcome from the ground staff as you exit the plane that really lets it sink in that you home... And then you take a drive to your parents place and the wood is already going because there is no better welcome than your first braai after being months or years away, lol.

Damn, I want to go home now, F#@k you OP! XD

God, I can smell that braai smoke from here. I haven't been home since pre-covid, life has gotten in the way. Need to plan my next trip!

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to that view again someday!

I’m not even from there but I feel a sense of calm every time I visit Cape Town β™₯️

Same as! My in-laws live there & we just visited in January. My favourite city in the world so far!

It would probably do the same to me. I remember when the family used to go on road trips. And we'd come back to cape town. Getting the first glimpse of Table Mountain πŸ™πŸΎπŸ‘ŒπŸΎ

The Mother City is beautiful. But underneath that glossy exterior hides many plagues.

I left cape town to come live and work in cayman islands. Been here and month and already going back to cape town on the 1st. I realised very quickly I'd rather be there than anywhere else

Is Capetown dry?

u/BlueBird8965 10d ago

Depends on the time of year, I guess

No, I’m with you. I head home mid-November, and while I miss my dogs and fiance tons, I don’t miss Cape Town.

That's me as well. I would kill for a job overseas actually and visit CT occasionally.
