Context: I am a student at UCT originating from Pretoria(the best city in South Africa. Fight me)
I'm sorry, I tried but I can't. Cape Town has HORRIBLE weather. You're always told that Cape Town has some of the best weather in the country and sometimes even in the world (seems like I was lied to), but this is far from the truth. In summer, there are days where it genuinely feels like you are going to melt. Then there is the wind that could genuinely topple an elephant on its day. Then there's the worst part of it all, winter. Maybe I'm too highveld coded, but it SHOULD NOT rain in winter. I understand that Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate, but no.
"You can experience 4 seasons in one day" that can not be a good thing𤣠I look out my window, and it looks gloomy, but by 10 am, I'm burning in my sweaterš
There was a day when I was walking to campus, and it was quite hot, and the wind blew. I was expecting a cool breeze, but tell me why the WIND was hot?!š¤£š¤£š¤£
I'm not trying to turn this into the roast of Cape Town, but I do think we need to have a conversation about the weather𤣠Is it just me that finds Cape Town weather erratic?

R55 for a small takeaway cappuccino?! It's good coffee, but not THAT good.
Tastes exactly the same as St. James in observatory but at double the price.
I don't see how they justify that price.
That's it.

Over the weekend I took my two year old for an adventure around Greendpoint park, three what looks like teenagers accosted us to the point where I considered reacting, we then got into the park and the spot where she normally plays about 3 of the 5 features like swings and jungle jims where closed, we rerouted down the prom and then again got accosted by an older boy. to cap it all off they tried to break into my car when I got back. like we need to pay higher rates but then this happened?

Any time of day, the M5 to N1 north is chaos. If anyone knows a city planner: my question is why would you plan to have two lanes merging into one, when there is space for both lanes to continue onto the N1. There is never a time of day when this ramp merge isnāt tjok. Will it ever be fixed or is this purposeful (like a traffic-calming measure)?

I do not live in Cape Town, but elsewhere in the Western Cape. I grew up here and have stayed here most of my life, but not the last number of years. Anyway, I am visiting CT at the moment, and it seems that the traffic laws changed. For me a red light at the robot means stop, that's what I do - however I saw other motorists cruise through red lights on multiple occasions, and clearly not interpreting it as a need to stop. What changed?

Can I just start off by saying, parents you need to parent your kids. Having your children run around the waterfront like wannabe gangsters and causing fights is absolutely disgusting. I have seen countless videos and posts about these teenagers running throughout multiple malls (waterfront and canal walk mainly) and chasing people to beat them up. Itās honestly so embarrassing for you as a parent to be fighting with the mall for how a security guard handled your child instead of reflecting and disciplining your child on what they were participating in that had to have security involved.
This is bullying and just outright dangerous behaviour to exhibit in a public space, the malls are public spaces where families are visiting and enjoying a day of shopping - it is absolutely ludicrous that these kids (mind you they are groups of 40+) are beating up another child (who is literally alone against 40) and stabbing them and stomping on faces. Whatās even worse is that I see those same kids making TikTok accounts dedicated to them beating up the other kids as if itās āmob justiceā, what the actual hell? Discipline your kids.
Edit: For context you can google āwaterfrontā and click on the news section

Visitor here, been here 5 days, had done proper research and knew not to be flashing anything and kept my phone in zipped in my pocket. The only thing was my jacket was not zipped up to my neck. Wore a thin gold chain necklace with blue pendant. Did not realize the pendant was hanging outside of my shirt.
Was walking back from Lebanese Bakery (absolutely delicious chicken shawarma ā pita and wraps are made in house!) towards the Waterfront area and while following google maps, i walked up through strand street and got approached by a guy in the middle of the crosswalk who I figured was going to ask for money. Instead he went right for my necklace, was able to push him off without him snatching it away. I didnāt realize at the time but necklace fell into my hoodie which was probably why he tried to approach me again but I started to walk away. A man saw some of the commotion, yelled what was going on and the robber shrugged at him and at that point I didnāt know if this guy was also apart of it so I kept walking away and then both stopped following after i turned the block.
Sucked that it happened but glad no one was hurt. Realize that he must be in a pretty dire situation or mindset to attempt to mug someone. Hope he gets the resources he needs.

With a hangover on Sunday I walked to the closest breakfast place, McDonalds. I have the app so I ordered before but Iāve never done an order collection at this location before so when I arrived there was a bit of confusion.
I walk to the barista and ask about the coffee. She asks me to read her something and I try to confirm whether itās the order number. She tells me to just had her my phone. Iām already hungover and sheās clearly had to do this before, so rather than having her guide me I give my phone.
She starts going to weird places in the app. And my scepticism is peaked but so is my curiosity.
Do I not watch this woman take my phone and give her and the restaurant a five star rating from my phone.
I almost want to laugh cause this is clearly not the first time, but whatās really eating at me is she hasnāt started the coffees and I already have the food in hand. So I have to wait till she answers multiple questions for this rating.
She hands me my phone back and tells me to say something thoughtful about the service. I finally get my phone back and see weāre 78% done rating this service.
Sheās still not starting the coffee and is waiting for me to finish. I write āinteresting serviceā, and hand it back because at this point Iām still hungover and Iāll do anything that will get my coffee started.
When the weird interaction was finally done, I had every intention of going home and deleting the review but thereās no such option.
I donāt mind rewarding good service, especially with something like a review, but damn, donāt hold my first coffee of the day hostage to do it.

Hi All,
I've been thinking about this for a whiiiile, like years actually.
Ever get a notification, whether Facebook or WhatsApp (status), etc of people asking you to please share this post about a missing person. Giving you a pic and description of the person. A TON of details like demographics, last seen, who to contact, where to look, etc.
Then again the next day (sometimes same day), the person has been found. No details AT ALL.
I feel...like I deserve an explanation. I shared your post on all my socials and also asked people in my contact list to sharebas well, I am genuinely concerned about this person's safety given the society we will in.
Did Caron just run away to spend a weekend with her boyfriend that her parents don't like or was she genuinely missing?
Did Gerard get too sloshed to go home and waited till he sobered up before going home 2 dsys later or was he genuinely in a car accident unable to make contact with family until he was stabilised?...I DESERVE to know....RIGHT?!

Currently looking to purchase an apartment. Over half of the estate agents I email never respond. But I've noticed that some will ignore your email, but still add you to their mailing list. What kind of scum behavior is that!? It's happened to me about 3 or 4 times already.

How common is it for Uber eats drivers to take your food here? Last week my mate ordered for 6 people and the driver never replied and stayed in one spot for an hour with our food. Iāve just ordered tonight and again my driver is staying still. Is this common?

I've been living in Oranjezicht for the past three years, and Iāve always felt it was a pretty safe neighborhood. However, in the last few months (Iād say since April), thereās been a disturbing trend of window smashings, especially around Culver Street and Sophia Street. Itās become so frequent that I canāt walk down those streets without seeing broken glass scattered around. At this point, I donāt think a week has gone by without at least one incident.
Just last month, I spotted two Polos with their headlights stripped off ā a clear sign of someone going around targeting cars. Iāve never seen this level of crime in the area before, and itās honestly getting really concerning. Anyone else in the area noticing the same?

And it seems I have a 50% chance of landing an actual Uber Go car and 50% chance of it being a comfort or even an Uber Black. Surely I cant be the only person in SA experiencing this? Also in CT CBD mostly.
I have also taken Uber Black before and landed in a Polo.
So whats the point of even choosing a higher tier car model?

Paid for wood last month, still no delivery and they not taking my calls anymore, trying to figure out where they are stationed to get my money back (yes yes I know this could be school fees paid for a lesson, looking for anyone else who purchased from them as they were referred)

Stay away!! misleading, uncomfortable, and terrible service
We booked Eco Luxury Villa in Hout Bay for 6 weeks, but after only 1 week we decided we could not stay any longer. The property is absolutely not as advertised, and when we asked to pay only for the week we stayed and be refunded for the remaining weeks, they flatāout refused. They only want to reimburse a small amount. That feels like a scam.
After a 20āhour flight, we arrived exhausted and desperate for a hot shower. It took 4 hours before we could even get hot water. And when it finally came through, the water pressure was unusable cutting off every few seconds, trickling back, and never strong enough for a proper shower.
The house is marketed as āluxury,ā but in reality it feels like a tired budget property: ⢠Dirty, old cutlery and kitchen items, some greasy and unwashed. ⢠No champagne glasses. ⢠BBQ grill rack filthy, and no table in the braai area despite the listing promising it. ⢠Outdoor wooden seating has no cushions at all, and the indoor cushions are old, stained, and cheap. ⢠Sliding doors barely open and need full body force just to move slightly. ⢠No security at the back of the property, which feels unsafe.
The sleeping arrangements are also misrepresented: ⢠There is no kingāsize bed, despite whatās listed. ⢠The two single beds are in a separate cottage with no toilet or shower. In the middle of the night, you have to walk outside in the cold just to use a bathroom. This was never disclosed.
And then thereās the cupboard space or rather, the lack of it. ⢠Cupboard space for clothing is an absolute joke. We ended up living out of our suitcases because thereās simply nowhere to unpack properly. ⢠The few clothing hangers provided are a random mix pulled from everywhere. ⢠The third (outside) room has no space at all for clothing.
In winter, the living area has no heating or fireplace, so we had to go out and buy heaters ourselves. The kitchen layout is cramped with the sink jammed into a corner. The drying rack is far too small for a family, so again we had to buy extras.
On top of that, a shower was leaking water onto the floor near electrical points a serious safety issue.
Service was terrible. Every issue we raised was either ignored or handled with no urgency.
There is no luxury here and no care for guests. We feel completely taken advantage of.
Avoid Eco Luxury Villa. There are far better, genuinely wellākept and fairly managed homes in Hout Bay. This one is all marketing spin with none of the promised comfort or service.

Theyāre complete scammers, quick to take your money and then never send the bag. They already have horrible reviews online and I shouldāve trusted those. They scammed me out of 2k.
Again, DO NOT buy from them
Edit: They also delete negative reviews on Google.

I wrote a poem...or perhaps an autobiography of sorts. I call it The N2 en toe?
This fine specimen spent the better part of 3min ingesting unadulterated diesel fumes from the very crack of our exhaust, bobbing and weaving in an obvious attempt to get ahead of us in order to ultimately get ahead and save himself 1.2 seconds in the dense N2 weekend traffic. Picture the scene, we're about a car's length behind his soon-to-be-victim ourselves, and my partner felt quite nervous with this STD stubbornly clinging to our fecal extremities while performing a surprisingly accurate rendition of the F&F safe-towing scene in Rio. He made a very conscious effort to share his displeasure as he stared daggers when finally passing us on the left - I wish I'd have captured the moment on my phone, but alas, I was too in awe of his majesty as he mouthed what I can only imagine to be well wishes our way, boldly accentuating the ending "PEACE" bit (at least it looked to start with P and end with S - he might have just been sharing his desperate need for a piss, or, you know...comparing the traffic to female reproductive genitalia). You can probably picture the type; oversized multicoloured (but primarily orange) Oakleys, gripping the top of the steering wheel a little too tightly with his right hand, likely sporting an All Blacks jersey or something sad like that (God forbid this one is a Springbok).
Now, before you say it, my partner is usually the type to give way (especially during a leisurely Sunday drive), only, there was nowhere to go at the time, and, as the video (and others like it) indicates, it didn't really stop there. If you wish to drive like you accidentally swallowed viagra before removing your chastity belt, power to you - I'm not going to police you or take matters into my own hands, your karma awaits.
But I digress, back to the story.
He obviously either learned that 1.2inches isn't considered average after all, or was fighting a losing battle with his bowels and underwear at the time - either way, please don't be this guy. I aspire to never be this unfortunate on the road...He went on to use the yellow lane, far left lane, and even split lanes to overtake his future conquests. I hope this gave him feelings of power and worth, because my God he made such a massive effort to pass us (intentionally) with mere millimeters to spare on the left (not an exaggeration), because it would further reinforce his discontent with the absent red carpet runway. I found it quite telling that the taxi (observed on the left in the video) eventually ended up on our left, and even he seemed in awe of this endearing lady-killer's performance - if a taxi driver on the N2 points and shakes his head at your driving, you've done well...! It was a melancholic moment, however, finally sharing a sentiment (or point of view) with one of South Africa's premiere public transport system concierges.
I imagine God's gift to South African roads and women had many more romantic obscenities to mouth towards those who dared stand in his way towards his ultimate goal. Oom van Hendrik (this is the name that resonated with me as I saw this 30-or-40-something middle-aged stud-muffin radiate heat on my left - apologies to the namesake), I know you're angry, I know you feel like the world owes you freedom to express your primal driving prowess, and I know you feel like it's just so unfair that people slower than you simply cannot comprehend your divine, artistic creative process, but for the love of God, if you see this, PLEASE do not be such a "PEACE", just be lekker!ā¤ļø You will arrive all the better for it, without an artery threatening hypertension on your forehead. Intimidating other road-goers does not make you cool, and the fact that you feel you need to express yourself this way indicates a troubling amount of concern for your mental. Stop it, get help. Have a wonderful day xx

These protests are so annoying. I just want to have a relaxing Sunday, not have to worry about running into these protests. How am I supposed to go about my Sunday if they're in the way? Are there not more important things to focus on? Things closer to home? Unemployment? Failing infrastructure? Corrupt politicians? Potholes? The rising cost of everything? Why am I supposed to care more about another country than my own and why do they?

So I'm pretty sure I'm being scammed by a so-called "legitimate" agency. Not going to name it specifically but it's in company with Tyson, Pan Golding, RE/Max, Rawson, Seef, etc.
I leased a place about a week ago and I find something egregiously wrong in here EVERY DAY. I'm talking water dripping down the walls when it rains, a stove that only worked twice (once when the PM demonstrated that it was operable and the first time I ever used it to cook - hasn't worked since), faulty lights that flicker incessantly (didn't test them during walk through or inspection because I only ever saw the place in the day time and didn't think I needed to turn on every single light, just assumed they worked), etc. The list goes on and on. It's clear that they rigged a lot of things to work just long enough to make for a good showing or two. Now that I am calling them out on it, they are saying the landlords had no idea. It is VERY apparent that both the landlords and the rental agency knew about these issues but didn't disclose them. I am now battling with them to return my deposit and fix these things but other than saying "we had no idea" they have mostly gone silent.
I've only ever heard of blatant scams happening in transactions made directly with landlords with no agency involved. Mostly people disappearing with would-be tenants' deposit money.
Otherwise, I've heard numerous stories about how awful leasing agents and realtors are in Cape Town at the "legitimate" agencies - things like: they're rude, barely follow up on rental and sales inquiries, can be racist at times and in general act like they are doing people favors by engaging with them at all.
But I'm beginning to wonder if there's more to it and if people have experienced actual scams when dealing with agents. Share your horror stories below and how you fought back (if you were able to)!

So I recently moved and storing some expensinve stuff in the garage so figured it will be a lot safer with some proper industrial roladors, the oke came out and he said they are very very secure as they are an industry leader and then said they'll issue me with the 2 doors along with ET remotes. Sounded great and I figured they charge around 3 times the price of a normal door it should be good.
They came and installed and gave me a single channel dip switch remotes, the kind you can copy if you have a R 50 self learning remote from takealot, this security vulnarability has been well known hack since the 1990's and I was suprised they still exist. Luckily I didn't pay the full amount so holding back payment until they fix it. further my insurance won't cover loss if there is no forced entry....
The oke said he's been selling these systems for years and never had a comeback.....
What gives?

To all Waiters & Waitresses,
Its not that black people donāt tip, you guys treat us like we donāt belong there, we have to beg for attention while we watch other tables occupied by other races constantly being check onš, itās frustrating, my GF & I now hate going out because of this.
Also I would like to send a special shoutout to Cape Town Airport Spur, your stuff sucks and needs trainingš.
