Announcement Regarding Mourning Posts 2.0
We're doing a sequel...We're back by popular demand...Come on everybody, strike up the band! -Kermit the Frog
TLDR: Mourning posts are staying, please don't post photos of deceased animals, we are aware mourning posts appear to be the most common posts on the subreddit.
Here is 1.0 if you missed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/s/aoAkihGSxZ
- As r/cats we allow all posts regarding cats, this includes mourning posts. To my knowledge we are possibly the only subreddit that allows these posts (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there).
"But allowing these posts is killing the subreddit, nobody wants these posts"
Our insights are only going up, stat wise the subreddit is currently flourishing.
- We've found it to be more harmful to remove a mourning post than to just encourage you, the users, to avoid our subreddit if you, the users, are not in a headspace where you can handle these posts. Our goal, as always, is to not harm any of you and unfortunately, as always, we cannot please everyone.
"That's stupid, I'm just going to go make my own subreddit that doesn't allow these posts"
Feel free to do this, we don't hold the copyright to all Reddit cat content.
- Please don't post deceased animals, it's not all of you, it's not even 1% of you, it's a percentage of a percentage doing this. Nobody here wants to see this.
I'll be keeping this post brief since we already made a post on this but will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have in the comments below.
Thank you for your understanding

Cat Picture - OC He was homeless, and they say that I saved him⦠the reality is he saved me
I have a lot of medical stuff to put up with and it causes extreme distress at times. The number of times I just wanted everything painful to be over is huge. Then I got him. He needs an excess of love and kindness, affection and care. I will put up with the struggles of life for him. I want to be there for him. He doesnāt have anyone else. Heās been my comfort in some very dark times.

Advice To neuter, or not to neuter .. that is my question
Iām a first time cat owner and have had Sir Gunther with me for just over a month now. He is fully indoors and is about six months old. From my understanding, reasons to neuter are: to avoid aggression and mating with other cats and spraying when they are stressed. If he is an indoor cat with quite a laid-back life (other than his endless requirement to play), how important is it for me to neuter him? ( prompted to post after seeing someoneās neutered cat mating with their hand ).

Medical Questions My elderly cat is partially paralysed
This just happened a few nights ago. My 16 yo cat suddenly couldn't stand anymore. My sister said that right before that, he shook one of his legs weirdly and then he stopped moving. It was 1am so she scheduled a visit to the vet first thing in the morning, and he stayed there for 2 whole days. Before I went back to bed that night, we checked his body to see if he felt any discomfort to the touch, and he complained when I mishandled him a bit. My sister brought him to his litter box when he tried to get up and he pooped. I felt some relief that night seeing that he could move all his limbs, was responsive to us, and that he could control his pees and poos.
At the vet, his appetite was fine, he had an IV drip and he peed a lot, though he kept holding it in since he couldn't stand, and was treated with corticoids since they found his spine to have wear at his ligaments (sorry idk how to explain that), but it didn't work as they expected, and now they think it might be either neurological, or something related to his kidneys.
He spent Friday, Saturday, and was brought back home today (Sunday) at 3pm. My sisters will be paying for vet visits instead since he looked super stressed at the vet and was visible relaxed when either of us was there with him, he even moved to get belly rubs.
He's been back home for a little now but he's tried to move a lot and seems super frustrated, as he's let out these big, annoyed sighs here and there. He usually sleeps with his head rested on one of his paws, and he slept like that for a while even though it took him some effort to lift his head.
While hospitalised, he got x-ray and ultrasound done, and tomorrow a vet will come to take a sample of his pee.
It's been super frustrating because my sister had already got all these tests for him a month ago for something else and he was done with his treatment. The vet now said the corticoids were for the pain, but he was only treated with that on Saturday, and we were given nothing on the meantime because we should supposedly wait till after his pee is analysed.
I don't know what else could be done for now. My sisters are looking already somewhere else to have him admitted if it turns out too hard to take care of him at home, so I'd appreciate suggestions or maybe other possible "diagnosis" to look up and be prepared for.

Video - OC Hide-and-seek isnāt his strong point but he tries his best
Ever since I started playing this little game with him where Iāll faux āchargeā him, and heāll run to the nearest āhide-outā and if I walk by, heāll jump out and ātagā me.
And now heāll just do it on his own; Iāll be walking up the stairs and as soon as I get to the top, heāll jump out from around the corner and genuinely jump-scare me and he always looks so content afterwardsšš
Love this quirky little dude
Advice Why does my cat gently bite my hand but keep getting harder?
My cat has this weird habit where he'll grab my hand and start "biting" it, but like... gently? He never breaks the skin or anything, just kinda gnaws on my hand like it's a chew toy.
The thing is, he starts super soft but then gradually bites harder and harder until it actually starts to hurt. But it's still this slow, deliberate thing...not aggressive at all, just... persistent?
Like dude, what are you trying to accomplish here? Are you tasting me? Testing my pain tolerance? š
Does anyone else's cat do this weird gentle-but-increasingly-painful hand biting thing? Is this normal cat behavior or is mine just a weirdo?

Cat Picture - OC Came out to the living room this morning to this sweetheart. Her name is Loki
This cat is so bitchy, but she loves the shit out of me. If I move around when I'm asleep she'll jump up on the bed and wake me up to check on me and demand me to pet her. It's rare to see her in such a vulnerable position like this. Usually she perches up high ready to escape at any moment š

Advice 20 lbs body but only controlled by onr braincell.
He is a very good boy but eats small pieces of plastic. We tried to make sure there are no plastic pieces in out house but if we see vomit, there is always a small of plastic mixed in there.
