The peanut butter one was pretty awful I’m not going to lie. Incredibly chalky texture and taste. I’m positive anyone who says otherwise is paid advertising based on post/comment histories of positive comments I saw in the past that did initially lead me to try it.
For the price point especially it’s a no-go.
Longer rant:
Some protein added foods are good, and milk+cereal should make it good, but this tastes too strongly of synthetic sugar/PB with a chalky texture/taste to boot.
For a breakfast protein item, the premier protein pancakes are actually decent (15g protein, 210 calories). They taste like mcdonald’s pancakes, which isn’t perfect, but the texture/flavor are indistinguishable from other instant pancakes. My cheat is adding a tiny sliver of salted butter to it.
Frankly though, most protein packed prepared items have been just a chalky/bad tasting nightmare that tastes nothing like it should. Other bad offenders include those pop tart protein bars. Honestly just grab a protein shake if you want convenient protein, they have better macros and flavor anyway. The only bad experience with cheap/off brand shakes I’ve had is with Pure Protein.

Premier protein pancakes tasting like McDonald’s hotcakes??? Funny enough I hate pancakes everywhere (they always smell of eggs and texture is off) but McDonald’s (tastes like bday cake to me)! So now I gotta try.

I think the Magic Spoon protein fruity loops with allulose and monk fruit are just as good or better than regular Fruit Loops. I had a few people try it and they couldn’t tell. That doesn’t happen too often.

If you want added protein to cereal just use vanilla protein powder/shake . Boom , problem solved with the cereal you enjoy

u/bigjapes 4d ago
I tried the peanut butter and was not a fan. It had the taste and texture of the crunchies in a bad protein bar.

If it’s anything like that God awful nutter butter protein powder I bought from them then hell no. I can’t even buy ghost stuff because that shit ruined it for me.

Where is this? Dang what are those prices is that USD
6
u/Wonderful-Funny-288 4d ago
Unfortunately, That’s pretty typical now for protein cereals. That’s our price for it in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

That's actually pretty cheap for sugary protein cereal. Most of the Vegan and Stevia ones range from 12-16 USD for usually half the oz of regular cereal.

u/Ill_Chemical_5150 4d ago
I’ve tried this and it wasn’t bad, but I prefer Magic Spoon which has monkfruit & allulose. In my area Ghost is $8.49 (9.4 oz) and Magic Spoon is $8.99 (7oz).

Magic Spoon near me, same oz is like 10.99. I don't really like the texture of them, though. I usually buy the Catalina crunch, which is usually the cheaper option for me at 8.99/9oz.

u/onexbigxhebrew 4d ago
That would be normal in my city (phoenix) for any specialty (protein- etc) cereal.
3
u/chitownfit 4d ago
I also want to point out…almost $1/oz. What a joke. This is effectively a scam.

expensive asf and the marshmallow one at least u can really taste the protein powder they put in it its really not that good even as a ghost fan

u/CosmicCorgi420 4d ago
If it does the same thing to me as the energy drink does I’m not touching it

u/LyonHeart85 4d ago
My brother in law picked this up a few months back, it was the absolute LAST time we tried it it's so gross tasting almost like chewing peanut butter flavored cardboard

I see people bitching about the price, but with 17 g of protein per serving this is about in line with what a tub of protein costs.
Magic spoon protein cereal cost about the same, but has less protein and fewer servings. As far as protein cereals, ghost is not a bad deal.
2
u/Dirty_Commie_Jesus 4d ago
That's how I do it too. How much complete protein am I getting per dollar or so. Compare it to Greek yogurt, whey protein powder or canned tuna for similar calories. If I can get it for about $1 per 20 grams I buy it.
I like this better dry and admit that part of my enjoyment is the novelty.
2
u/chitownfit 4d ago
This is terrible logic and probably exactly what Ghosts pricing strategy was.
2
u/Bigheaded_1 4d ago
It’s not terrible logic though, a protein bar with 20g is 3 to 4 dollars. This box of cereal has seven servings and even if you include the price of milk this is still one of the cheapest sources for protein. For some reason, people are expecting a protein cereal to cost the same as a regular cereal I guess?
And it’s cheaper than either of the competitors protein cereals.
1
u/chitownfit 4d ago
They’re just adhering some basic protein powders and artificial sweeteners to the cereal and upcharging big time. Skip the middleman and just buy the protein powder your self.
0
u/Bigheaded_1 4d ago
But they’re not up charging big-time though. This isn’t competing with protein powders it’s competing with protein bars, and protein chips. Gram for gram this is cheaper than either. Protein powders are cheaper, but I can eat a few handfuls of this for a snack. You can’t do that with protein powder. Also, as I already said it’s cheaper than either of the other brands of protein cereal so if you want protein cereal, this is the best deal out there.
A box of this has 117 g of protein for eight dollars. 117g of quest chips will cost you about $15
1
u/chitownfit 4d ago
Understood. I guess what I’m saying is none of this - protein chips, cereal etc - are really just a novelty. It’s possible to hit your protein goals easily without it, and has been for, well, ever.
So that said unnecessary thing is less expensive than more ridiculously expensive unnecessary doesn’t compute for me.

The marshmallow one has lucky charms marshmallows in them. The box says it on the side.

Absolute and utter garbage! We discuss them at length in Episode 14 of the ‘Just Pour The Milk’ cereal podcast. 😃🥣🥛

That's crazy lol. They usually do flavors pretty well for an energy drink company. Hopefully that peanut butter flavor is really good!

Can't we just leave cereal the fuck alone. There are plenty of ways to get protein. Just beyond stupidity!
2
u/Bashful_bookworm2025 4d ago
Agreed. I think the protein craze where protein is added to everything (even cookies) is so silly. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to eat enough protein, but I think most of the protein cereals have a weird aftertaste. I buy cereal because it tastes good, not to load up on protein.
3
u/Moblin_Hunter 4d ago
If you know that protein cereal doesn't taste like actual cereal, then you know what to expect, realistically.
I am a "protein treats" person - and these were surprisingly awesome. The peanut butter one with chocolate milk? Hell yes. The lucky charms one was okay, but definitely better with chocolate milk also.
I found these at a grocery outlet for 75 cents and would absolutely go back for more - but I don't know about full price for ANY protein cereal. Magic Spoon (some flavors) maybe, but only as a treat.

I have a box of the cinnamon crunch in my cupboard right now! Delicious with fresh blueberries added.

u/No-Currency-97 4d ago
I would recommend Catalina Crunch dark chocolate cereal. 9 grams of fiber, 11g of protein and the price is better. 😋 https://www.walmart.com/ip/590919239?sid=b2c11627-a84d-4f1f-97c4-4c7e2804a090

The peanut butter one is ass but the lucky charms one is good, they use the actual lucky charms marshmallows. Really awesome macro wise if you pair it was fairlife fat free milk. Easiest 40 grams of protein and sometimes that matter more than taste.
2
u/Bashful_bookworm2025 4d ago
Why would you sacrifice flavor just to load up on protein? I don’t see the point of eating something just because it’s high protein if it doesn’t taste good.
4
u/PondPrince 4d ago
Some people prioritize taste others prioritize health goals. Or some people keep this cereal in their pantry and prioritize health goals some of the time. I love this stuff and it lets me eat cereal way more often while still staying within my macro goals

I seriously feel ripped off that in Australia we dont have even one cereal with marshmallows
1
u/freetotebag 4d ago
I like ghost products but these are fucking abysmal. Overpriced and BAD. Way better, easier, tastier, cheaper ways to get protein.
3
u/kaiklops 4d ago
I’m going to go against the grain a little here and say that the marshmallow one is a staple for me and I also like the pb one, though not as much. I love the marshmallow one. Buy it weekly.
Something to note with my recommendation is that I’ve been on a pretty serious fitness thing for the last 18 months and it IS possible that my tastebuds are less picky than others when it comes to fortified foods like this. I don’t eat any non-high protein cereal and so the bar for me is set within that context.

I love Ghost products and I love cereal...these are horrible. Incredibly chalky.
For protein cereal Magic Spoon is much better and has a wide variety of flavors now.

Im obsessed with the PB one. I use it to top my oatmeal and also mix it into my ninja creamis. It’s expensive sure, but pretty in line with other speciality protein products. Kinda dumb to compare the price to a normal cereal.

The PB one is just okay. I love the other one. I only buy them when they’re BOGO.
