Video The most entertaining cfb documentary I’ve seen in years: “Mike Leach Isn’t Dead” 🏴☠️
The new posting format isn’t kind to YouTube links, so here is the video in its entirety.
From start to finish, a very entertaining watch. Less than an hour, too.
It details his beginnings of studying law, was able to get his first coaching gig at Iowa Wesleyan, developed the Air Raid offense, and how he responded to critics.
I learned plenty of new things about Coach Leach, when I already thought I knew most it.
Enjoy!

Casual What is your watch schedule for Week 1? Here is mine...
Hi reddit. I rope my wife, who is a PM at a tech company, into doing this with me every week. It takes about an hour and her fee is hugs and dinner dates.
I try to catch as many contender matchups as possible, skipping through garbage time when I can. I usually make a plan, but priorities like which game is on the main screen shift depending on close finishes, blowouts, or breaking storylines. I found if I don't do it like this, my ADHD brain just jumps all over the place.
So am I crazy or does anyone else plan their college football weekends like this (we only get 12~ a year)?
Are there any games you are planning to watch that might not be on my radar but would still be worth tracking for someone trying to have a sharp perspective on college football?

Discussion Player On Your Team You Are Excited To See Redeemed This Year?
Realistic or not its always exciting to wonder on the team the new transfer or the player that struggled last year and how they can become better and be redeemed in the eyes of the team.
Like for me the transfer Im most excited to see redeemed in the league is Malik Benson. Had bricks for hands at FSU last season (or so Ive heard) but from what Fall Camp has been showing, the coaching and staff have seemed to have changed him. Im excited to see him go from zero to aboev average on our team and I truly think that he can help bring the WR room to a new level if he really listens and takes in everything he learns.
So what about yall? Excited to see the replies

Analysis Cool Play Sequencing from Iowa State - 12p FIB
Both KSU and ISU utilized 12 personnel in some really fun and creative ways in the CFB 2025 inaugural. 12 Personnel has seen a steady uptick over the past few seasons. Big guys that are genuine threats to catch the ball have always been valuable, but with the current landscape featuring defensive coordinators trying to live in 2 high shells whenever possible, fitting an extra gap from deep becomes challenging.
Furthermore, offenses have been experimenting more and more with setting the formation into the boundary (FIB). This simply means you are putting the strength of your offense (where the most players are) towards the sideline, rather than to the field rand open space. But why? FIB tends to break a lot of defensive rules and most DCs only have so many ways to match up with condensed formations.
So ISU starts the season in 12 pp YY FIB running super counter! Notice that they shift into this as well, forcing a check from the defense and further limiting the ways in which they can respond.
Now the tone is set, and there are a lot of purple jerseys hanging around the line of scrimmage. With safeties adding themselves at the faintest whiff of run action, how does ISU lighten the box?
RPO that crashing safety! Bang RPO from 12p double wing quads FIB
18 comes flying down and Becht dutifully chucks it into the space the safety is vacating.
And now the coup de grace! It looks like bog standard Y off doubles the very next play, but ISU is still in 12p and that is the TE over at X receiver at the bottom of the screen. K state is sending 5 with man coverage behind. Becht knows he has man because of how K state is aligning to the TE at X and bringing down a safety for the sniffer when he motions across the formation. He confirms man post snap and then drops it perfectly on the slot fade.
Really nice scheme and sequencing, showing how you can still pass very effectively out of 12p by understanding how formation and personnel can force specific mismatches.

Uniforms 2025 Big 12 Uniform Tracker: Week 0 - Big 12 Season Opener!
Hello r/CFB! Welcome to the 2025 Big XII Uniform Tracker in Week… 0?! Sound the alarm, THE OFFSEASON IS OVER AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS BACK! I am so excited to track uniforms for this exciting conference - and what better way to start than a Big 12 rivalry game in Ireland? The 2025 season begins NOW! In case you are unfamiliar with how my tracker works, I catalog every Big 12 team’s uniform combination week-to-week, and also look at the opposition’s threads. I’ve tracked the Big 12 since 2022, and you can find each season's “Uniform Awards” post here (2022, 2023, 2024). I provide a few of my thoughts on the game, the uniforms, and a brief history of the game/rivalry and/or fun facts. This week, three Big 12 teams kick start the season as openers before Week 1. Let's see how they fared, what they wore, and discuss how they looked as well! It is college football season once again!
I’m u/matte_purple, and let's 3,2,1 go!
Kansas State University Wildcats vs Iowa State University Cyclones (ISU Wins, 24-21)
K-State: Silver/Purple/Silver (Link: https://imgur.com/a/k-state-week-0-2025-eXoXSmh )
ISU: Red/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/iowa-state-week-0-2025-FrOgvPo )
HERE WE GO!!! This was the 109th faceoff between the two agricultural powers, the longest rivalry series that has never been interrupted since they first played in 1917. It’s also the first time in years we had a ranked vs ranked Week 0 game! This Farmageddon - once again - had all the wackiness of those that came before it. Wet conditions, blown coverages and fumbles, and wild coaching decisions that make me quite sad as a K-State fan. For the most part both teams managed to find a rhythm after a rough first half, and both teams still have plenty to be excited about AND worried for. A great start to the Cyclone’s season, and one hell of a motivator for the K-State Wildcats. Let’s move onto the uniforms.
Do you know the last time Kansas State wore something different than their classic uniform? Last game! The ‘Cats replaced their silver for white in their 2024 bowl game win. Which means this is the first time K-State has deviated from their standard template 2 times in a row since 1989! It’s also the first time since 1971 that the Wildcats will wear a silver helmet without a tri-stripe helmet stripe. As indicated, K-State eschewed the normal helmet stripe for a Celtic knot style stripe. The helmet is also adorned with a green clover sticker and Irish flag on the rear. Granted, it's a small change, but still remarkable for a program with a very traditional look and mindset towards uniforms. The rest of the suit is similar to the standard home look, which is a fine way to showcase the brand for a game that had more eyes on it than normal. A great look for K-State, but many of the old-timers will blame the loss on this deviation, I’m sure. The change itself contributes to a long line of minor changes for the Dublin game, including:
2024 Georgia Tech - Celtic Knot Stripe; 2023 Notre Dame & Navy - Shoulder Stripe Alterations; 2022 Northwestern - Ireland Flag “N” logo; 2016 Boston College - Celtic Knot Stripe; 2014 UCF - Shamrocks & Pot of Gold Decal; 2012 Notre Dame - Irish Flag Accessories.
Speaking of Irish flag accessories, the Iowa State Cyclones made some changes in that department. Their combination itself is relatively devoid of special Dublin influence - save for the Irish tricolor and Jack Trice symbol on the front bumper - but their accessories (towels, game balls, coach attire, etc.) are all emblazoned with green-and-orange-colored “Script Cyclones” logos. ISU may not have leaned into the Ireland flair combo-wise as much but they still looked sleek - and importantly - like the ISU cardinal I remember! This particular combo was last worn in 2023 in a loss to OU, and contrasts nicely against the cool colors of K-State’s template. ISU hadn't worn a red helmet since Week 11 of 2024 against KU, and this glossy red helmet with the script logo on it - the first time we’ve ever seen that logo on a red shell - really looks awesome. It’s nice to see it back. The shoulder stripes design continues to be one of the more unique ones we’ve seen across CFB, and I honestly don’t have that much to complain about on this uniform. Great work to the Cyclones, who will face off against South Dakota at home in Ames next week.
University of Kansas Jayhawks vs Fresno State Bulldogs (KU Wins, 31-7)
KU: Blue/Blue/Blue (Link: https://imgur.com/a/kansas-week-0-2025-KPJEMmZ )
FSU: Red/White/Red (Link: https://imgur.com/a/fresno-state-week-0-2025-BZPOfHI )
This is the first time the Bulldogs from the West Coast have faced the Jayhawks, and it was exciting, well, for the home team. The Jayhawks lit up the field with offensive firepower, putting on quite a show in the mostly renovated David Booth Memorial Stadium. KU finished the game with 383 yds of total offense and 22 1st downs. Passes looked great, defense created some takeaways, even the punting was great. QB Jalon Daniels looked fantastic. The Jayhawks may need to work on the secondary issues, but 31-7 is pretty hard to argue against, regardless of the team. T’was a good day for the Jayhawks and KU fans!
Similar to what we will see throughout the tracker next week, Kansas tends to wear all blue in their first home game (2020, 2022, 2023, and now 2025). They bucked the trend last year, but that’s mostly because KU wasn’t playing in Lawrence. They opened their “home schedule” in Kansas City. So it’s only right that the Jayhawks put on their traditional all blue for their “Welcome back to Lawrence” game. There were no noticeable changes to last year's suit, worn against Houston midseason 2024. Personally, I like this combo less than, say, all blue with red pants, but I understand the sentiment completely. It's only right to represent the primary color in a hallmark, ceremonial game like this. I do like the blue facemask! Truly an all blue suit. This particular blue just works best when balanced out with more color, in my opinion. Regardless, we will see more great looks from KU through the year!
Fresno State revamped their uniforms in 2020, and the look appears to be similar to what the Bulldogs have worn throughout the years. The suits themselves were slightly pedestrian, but the collar “V” is notable. It’s also featured on the helmet logo and even the back of the helmet. It signifies the importance of the “Valley” - specifically the San Joaquin Valley - and of course “Victory.” I specifically enjoyed the return of the “all-white 4-paw” logo, which had previously been on hiatus since 2010. What's stranger, the Bulldogs have worn script logo helmets almost exclusively since 2021. I like their script, but the 4-paw logo is very neat. I hope to see it more as the season goes. Fresno State doesn't appear to mind their less flashy uniforms, but used the red with great tact. A good matchup!
BONUS CONTENT! My hopes, thoughts, and expectations in 2025 for each Big 12 team’s uniforms:
Arizona: More use of alternate logos and combos. In 2023, the Wildcats wore their standard blue or white threads 9 times, always wearing their white helmets with the quintessential “A” logo. Last season, they broke the mold with two alternate logos and 3 red helmets. They wore more red in their combos than they have in 8 years. While I expect the pendulum will swing back a little more into “normal” territory, I would still assume Arizona will wear two or three “non-standard” suits!
Arizona State: Sparky! Well, not just Sparky. The Sun Devils notably tweaked their Adidas uniforms from last year, showcasing their new “Arizona State” wordmark on the chest in July. But back to Sparky, the famous and well loved Arizona State logo was worn on helmets a whopping 5 times in the 2024 season. They haven’t been worn that much in quite some time. The nostalgia of Sparky, coupled with a playoff-caliber season from the Sun Devils in 2024, and their “core uniforms” on social media featuring a Sparky helmet, ensures that we will see our favorite devil more often than we do in a regular year. Additionally, I would love to see more fun alternates, like the “Gold Out” we saw in 2024.
Baylor: Combo versatility! Last year we saw a disappointing lack of gold, with only two combos sporting meaningful amounts of the color. The two most prominent suits worn in 2024 were both pretty monochrome: Green/Green/Green and White/White/White. I’d love to see just a bit more mixing and matching this year. We also know about the Chrome Dome helmet announced just over a week ago, we will see how that is thrown into the mix. Also be on the lookout for another version of the “Script Baylor” helmets, worn against LSU in 2024. We may see it or something like it once this season.
BYU: Run it back! BYU had a very great uniform year in 2024, sporting lots of royal blue, a great throwback to honor the 1994 Cotton Bowl rematch vs K-State, and an overall put-together-ness that merits praise. Of course, BYU did release their 2025 uniform schedule during the summer, so my prediction of something similar to last year happening looks to be correct. No big uniform changes in store, which I am perfectly content with. It will be another great year for BYU’s uniforms.
Cincinnati: K.I.S.S - Keep it Simple Stupid. If there’s one thing that Cincinnati does best, it’s black, white, and small amounts of red. They obviously maintained that line of thought when designing their new 2025 uniforms! Simple sleek, with just enough unique touches in the stripes and throwback energy to make you take a second look. We’ll talk more about these next week. As for predictions, I suspect the Bearcats will maintain the standard lineup, using black helmets and jerseys often, throwing in white helmets for 3-4 suits, and using red suits for special occasions. As much as I love versatility, the Bearcats look best when they don’t get too crazy with color. Also, check out the small details! Cincinnati loves to include back helmet stickers and decals that honor a storied and historic school. That's what makes this fun!
Colorado: Familiarity with new uniforms! Colorado’s 2024 uniform update went swimmingly, but some of their combos seemed a tad off. Mixing pieces that seemed to contrast, facemasks and accessories that didn’t quite mesh, and those off-kilter mountains on the legs really messed with some of these suits. The Buffs will likely keep their overall uniform pieces the same, but they’ll probably be arranged in more fan-favorite, less experimental ways.
Houston: Originally, when I brainstormed this back in February, my main Houston objective was “Gearing towards an update”. Evidently, Houston read my mind! They announced their refresh in June. The main changes on the new Nike F.U.S.E template is the contrasting collar (the first time a regular uniform collar has taken on a different color since 2012) and a new wordmark introduced as part of the 2022 update. Sadly, they keep the strange pant stripes (at least they did in the uniform release). I’ll talk more about these when we see them next week, but for now, I’m just happy we are seeing more updates! I’ve also heard some rumblings of an alternate uniform for the UCF Space Game. Stay tuned!
Iowa State: Which ISU will we see this year? We saw the Cyclones release new uniforms in 2024 with several “old school” pieces, notably a return to stripes and gold pants (though ISU wore only black or white pants through their record-breaking season last year. I’d expect to see a few more instances of the cardinal pants as well, primarily in away games.) We saw the retro Script, originally from 1986 in all its glossy glory today. Will Iowa State continue to buck the standard uniform-wise this year? We could see a much more traditional looking Iowa State OR a continuation of the stark black and white uniform trend with the Block I logo. Could go either way!
Kansas: More Angry Jay! The 1941 “Warhawk” or “Angry Jay” was worn on KU’s helmets 4 times in 2024. Feeling more comfortable after removing the bland KU monogram logo on the helmets (not worn at all in 2023 or 2024 and only worn once in 2022), the administration released some new away uniforms with the fan favorite circus font and the aforementioned Warhawk. Here’s the kicker - the release stated we’d see them in October. Will we see these special suits for the long awaited “Border War’ vs Mizzou? I’d also love more white helmets, and a more sparing use of the black alternates, but we’ll have to see about that. KU is in their mostly renovated stadium and will likely bring out some additional fun looks thanks to that!
K-State: The Wildcats broke the losing alternate uniform streak during their bowl game in 2024, the first alternate worn since 2022 and the first time an alt has seen a victory since 2017. Obviously, they wore another altered look today! But I find it hard to believe we will see anything unusual this year from K-State, as they used up their one alteration token this week. I’d expect the ol’ reliable Snyder suit from Klieman’s team.
Oklahoma State: Less Cursive Cowboys logos, more black. Despite being the impetus for many teams to revitalize their cursive logos, sentiment towards them from OSU fans seems to be skewing into the “we wear this way too much” area. OSU has a wealth of logos to wear, so I’ll be interested to see if the Cursive usage goes down just a tad. But I’m also biased. I love the Pistol Pete logos a lot. As for the black, we saw some unusual tri-color and more experimental suits worn in 2024. As an appeal to fans and a desire to “win back” some detractors, I think the EQ room will go with more crowd favorite combos. That usually includes more black combinations than majority orange ones. It should be a good uniform year for the Pokes!
TCU: The chrome will keep on coming! While most people (including myself) do not like the 2024 uniform update from TCU, they did get chrome right last season. They had several chrome forward looks that I really loved in 2024, and they will no doubt continue to innovate with those particular helmets. Also, be on the lookout for a “Blood Red” alternate uniform more in line with the 2024 updated threads. They wore 2022’s gray spike collar version last year.
Texas Tech: Change-up with the new pieces. With this sweet 2024 uniform update, the new multi million dollar Womble Athletic Center and South End zone, a highly rated transfer class and big time conference hopes, Tech has the biggest momentum in the Big 12. What better time to be a little more outgoing with some of your uniform choices? One I particularly want to see is the Black/Black/Red suit, as we have yet to see that Red Raider combo on the tracker (I started in 2022). I think it would look particularly good! We will also see a new uniform package celebrating Texas Tech Football’s 100th anniversary, which will be worn on October 11. Regardless, it will be hard for Texas Tech to mess up their uniforms this season.
UCF: NEW UNIFORMS! While many thought the Knights would simply apply their current template to the newer Nike F.U.S.E. template rolled out in 2023, UCF instead took the opportunity to really wow with a new base set. Bigger numbers, better font, gold drop shadow and number perforations, TV numbers, bigger stars on the legs and Pegasus wings on the shoulder. The update means two things: some very fun and experimental choices from the UCF equipment team and more gold! With only two teams on the schedule sporting meaningful amounts of gold or yellow (North Carolina A&T and West Virginia - homecoming) it would be a good season to work more gold into the wardrobe! Their all-important Space Game vs Houston will be a matchup to watch. Can’t wait to see these in action next week!
Utah: Will this be the year the traditional uniforms get the axe? Utah's current uniform version was introduced in 2020. For most fans, the throwback alternates seem to be the next logical refresh. A Utah throwback was worn in 6 games throughout 2024, which is the most times we’ve seen them since their introduction (worn 4 times in 2022, and 3 in 2021). With all three main colors present and fan sentiment towards adopting the throwbacks full time growing, this could very well be the year we see the change enacted or at least announced. What do you think of the standard uniforms from 2020?
West Virginia: With HC Rich Rod back in Morgantown, I'd say it's a safe bet he would want to outfit the team in the suits he primarily used when coaching there the first time, like maybe through the return of the glossy helmets that we saw released this summer? I’d expect to see more traditional Blue/Blue/Gold combos, while also utilizing two uber popular alternates in the “Coal Rush” suits and the newly introduced 1965 throwback. Will we see a “Gold Rush” game? Perhaps. But I’d bet we only see 5-6 separate combos, 3-4 home looks and 2-3 away suits. It just feels like they won’t prioritize wearing a different combo each time.
Aaaaand that’s all folks! Week 0 is wrapped up. A bite-sized appetizer before the best season of college football yet. Hopefully it was a fun read! What did you think about the uniforms from this go-around? What are you hoping your team wears next week? Do you think my predictions will hold up? Let me know in the comments! Discussion Which player on your team has the best/coolest story?
Watched Stanford-Hawaii yesterday and the announcers were talking about Hawaii's kicker Kansei Matsuzawa:
- Watched an NFL game on TV in an airport
- Learned how to kick by watching YouTube videos
- Convinced a Juco in Ohio to give him a chance
- Moves there without knowing English, and improves his kicking and English skills
- Transfers to Hawaii and hits a game winner

Any players on your team have a cool story like this?
