thanks! i’m still really bad but i think it will help a lot to learn with a physical board vs. just on my phone

Same here, and I'm going to start working over a physical board, too. I don't have a wooden board or pieces, yet, but I definitely want to get them soon.

yea my plan is to play a bot on chess.com and then mirror all the moves on the board. and then hopefully find some friends in denver to play with too haha

I like to play longer time controls like 60 min when I do this - gives me time to move the pieces and really think about it while looking at a physical board

yep just gonna do the max time against the bot. i’ve been getting mopped by people on chess.com with the 10 minute games. not good enough for that method yet

thankss i’m very excited to get into this new hobby. had to have a 4th surgery on my shoulder and can’t play hockey anymore so going to dedicate myself to getting into chess and making friends while doing so :)

i’m trying to find some people. i have one coworker who’s gonna play with me this weekend.

and then i think i’ll play some bots on chess.com and move the pieces on the board while i play haha

also bought some good chess books to read

i had more shoulder injuries than i can count over the years, wasn’t the biggest guy but was always a really physical player. played competitive hockey from age 3 through college. and then was playing in some very competitive men’s leagues post college.

when i hit my late 20s all of the injuries started to create dislocation problems that i got fixed on both my left and right shoulders. and unfortunately i’ve reinjured both surgically repaired shoulders so i’m at 2 surgeries for each shoulder now.

and the doc says i can’t really risk anymore injuries like this or i’ll have some very bad issues as i get older. really bums me out because playing hockey is something i love so much, i happen to be very good at it and it keeps me feeling young. gotta hang the skates up now :(

yeah it was a little pricey but it’ll last a long time, looks great and i don’t spend my money too carelessly in general. so i felt ok splurging on this

Oh jeez, I've always liked the rosewood Zagrebs but I didn't consider how gorgeous they'd look on a black and white board. Well done.

yeah i was on the fence about the rosewood but very glad with the choice once it showed up

Oh wait, it's not even rosewood - it's the gilded! Is it the mahogany gilded? If so I had the exact same one in my cart until I chickened out. (I went with a more conventional Jaques design)

Also good luck with the shoulder. Time can be cruel, but chess is a good way to pass it.
