Wooden Purchased my first set to collect

I went ahead and purchased for $60. I do like the night, but the bishop looks a little like a certain object that you would stick certain places. They feel weighted? I don't have anything to compare it to but they're definitely heavier than my other set.

Can somebody tell me if they're lacquered or not? I'm trying to learn about what makes a chess set "nice"//and the craftsmanship.

How would you guys rank the craftsmanship of this set?

for me, what makes a set nice is how i like the pieces optically and how they feel when moving. there's a certain cozy feeling when they are just right, for me anyways

Nice start! I have 13 sets now. Some sentimental and some just beautiful.

Where do you typically stick a lava lamp?

Great find. I love the Zagreb/Leningrad style knights, and the bishops do look at least unique.

It looks like a buff polish as a lacquer looks more like the ones cited here: https://www.chessbazaar.com/blog/difference-between-lacquer-chess-set-and-buff-polish-chess-set

Hard to truly rate craftsmanship without seeing the pieces in person, with some exception to very low and very highly crafted sets. This doesn’t seem either of those to me and that’s not a bad thing. It was probably made in India, as most modern sets are. A good playing set needs to be something you can bang a little and has piece design that is easy to see. This looks like it fits the bill nicely.
