That looks very hearty. Care to share what else is in the recipe?

I’m sorry this is my first post in here. I didn’t mean to break the rules. But it is a loose recipe. 3 cans black beans 3 cans chili beans 2 can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce 3-4 cans of tomato paste 2 cans of fire roasted tomato chunks 2 cans of this Mexican lime tomato chunks(I don’t remember the name, from Aldi.) 3 cans of tomato sauce 2 fresh jalapeño peppers 1 fresh onion 3 red/orange/yellow sweet bell peppers 1 tablespoon of minced garlic 1 lbs grass fed beef 1 lbs hot sausage Chipotle seasoning, sea salt and pepper

I’ve placed first and two thirds in the 3 contests that I joined over the 5 years.

You didn’t break any rules friend. Just curious to try it for myself! 🤣

It looks and sounds phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.

No banana peppers were used. I was just eating them while I prepped. Lol If you can’t tell I like peppers.

Although you never know what those sour patch kids will do. There may be a few sour patch corpses in there. I should’ve ate them all.

How big of cans of tomato paste? Oz-wise...the small ones?

5

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 03 '25

3-4 6 oz can. Happy Harvest from Aldi.

No chili, cumin, and paprika powder? Does the chipotles in adobo and chipotle seasoning take care of that flavor?

Also, I’m assuming you’re talking about 6oz cans of tomato paste and 15oz cans of tomato sauce?

Chili looks great!

The adobo sauce does the trick. Yes this is correct. Thank you. You should taste it.😎 I got this new chipotle seasoning it has that stuff in it. You should see the trophy I got for this recipe.

Definitely didn't break any rules. We just encourage people to share more details, and not just post pictures.

Looks good, by the way.

Wait I thought I was the only one that used cheezit instead of saltines with chili. Well played.

5

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 02 '25

This is a new flex. I think I’m hooked. Permission to come aboard the cheez it club for good?

1

u/OkTie2851 Feb 03 '25

So the extra toasty cheezit is actually the best one to use lol

Looks good. I want to try the chipotles in adobo. I already add 1tbsp of tobasco chipotle sauce.

3

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 02 '25

When I open the cans of chipotle peppers in adobo I cut them up a bit and I add the sauce into the mix as well.

Do it! The only way to find out if your recipe is a contender.

That….looks godly. 🔥 currently recovering from food poisoning and torturing myself with images of delicious food like this

Yeah this looks amazing. Gunna use this for my work chili contest this Friday. I’ll post back here next if I won. When I think of chili, this is what I want it to look like. Thanks for sharing!

How did you do?

Edit: nevermind - I saw your update post, good work!

2

u/rustyshklfrd Feb 05 '25

Secret ingredients are sour patch kids and pickles.

1

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 05 '25

Sour patch kids make everything better! But not at first. The jar is banana pepper rings that I was eating while making this batch. Please don’t judge, I like peppers.

2

u/rustyshklfrd Feb 05 '25

No judgement here. Do you put the cheez it’s on your chili? If not I highly recommend.

1

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 05 '25

This was actually the first time I tried it with Cheez Its. It was really good, I will definitely be doing it more. Unfortunately I ate that entire batch it a week and a half. So I have to wait until I make another batch.

CHAMPION CHILI INDEED! I came back like I said I would, and I won first place!!! Wooo! BUT I had to make some drastic last minute changes at the end. It was waaaay too spicy. My judges are old white ladies. Mayonnaise is too spicy for them lol. I did 100% everything listed here tho. Thank you so much!!

2

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 07 '25

Hey that’s awesome, congrats! I wouldn’t call it “CHAMPION” Chili if it wasn’t a winner. I guess I forgot to mention that I like the spice. Maybe the jalapeños could be substituted with something more mild?

2

u/Starfishdude80 Feb 08 '25

I liked the spice don’t get me wrong. This recipe makes so much chili , that I put a ton of the spicy stuff off to the side for me. I just added a little more tomato sauce and tomato paste to dilute the spice a bit. Then added butter, lemon juice, and brown sugar to tip the scales with some sweetness. It worked incredibly well. A minor snap of sweetness at the start, then a massive wave of heat. It was the whole talk at my work. I greatly appreciate you sharing this homie. Thank you!

I love this. I’m glad that you tinkered. That actually gives me some ideas for the next time I do a contest. The two times I got 3rd place I was told that “I took them to flavortown, but they ended up in the burn ward.” Haha They loved the flavor but the heat snuck up on them. Brown sugar would definitely mitigate that. Thank you homie!!

Oh and I’m also happy that you are officially the mayor of flavortown at your office. Go off King!

2

u/Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69 Feb 08 '25

Did you add more garlic? I saw a comment that said I wasn’t putting enough in.

2

u/Starfishdude80 Feb 08 '25

Nope I stuck with the 1 tablespoon of garlic. My wife was watching me cook this and she was already like “damn that’s a lot of garlic!” lol I was considering adding another tablespoon. Everybody got different taste I guess.

Interesting recipe! Def more tomatoe additions and no where near enough garlic for me. I use half the amount of tomatoe cept crushed and the same fireroasted, and about 6-8 cloves of garlic. I like to use around 4 cups of homemade beef stock made from left over porterhouse steaks/bone. It reduces down to an amazing flavor profile (I like an 8 hour simmer).

Everything else is pretty much the same tho! Tons of beans and peppers! 2lbs of ground beef or beef/steak mix and epecially the chipotle peppers in Adobe sauce. It really makes the chili shine!

Looks fantastic and would love to try a more tomatoe based chili!

This might spark some controversy but am I the only one that doesn't use ground beef for chili? It takes me like 3 or 4 days to make my chili. I don't use beans and I always use rice to soak up the juices and heat.

When you say 3 cans of chili beans do you mean kidney beans or the “chili beans” which are pinto beans in chili sauce?
