It’s all preference. I don’t make chili with beans, but if someone else does, I’ll still eat it. On Hot Dogs however, if the chili has beans I’ll just stick to standard condiments. I don’t want beans on my dog, it’s too busy IMO. You do you though. It’s not gross.

u/thepottsy Mod. Chili is life. 10d ago
Unconventional for hot dog chili, but I wouldn’t call it gross. I mean, I grew up eating beans and weanies on toast, so……..

u/Disastrous-Resident5 10d ago
The way I see it, and I’m the super minority here, anything that is used to mask the taste of a hot dog belongs on a hot dog.
Chili with beans is amazing and I stand by you. As long as we get a fistful of onions to go with it!

Not gross but not typical since chili with beans isnt normally eaten on a hot dog. But the chili looks good and its not like overloaded with beans or anything.
Weird would be eating beans in a movie theater.

Dude is stupid. There’s no unwritten laws with food, especially anything that goes on bread/bun. He’s the kind of dipshit that says beans aren’t traditionally put in chili……and then dumps multiple cans of tomatoes in the pot.

u/Mikaelleon23 10d ago
I put beans on a burger the other day. People are scared to live. We can do whatever we want.
Who cares what other people do or think.

If it works for you great! Same with people hating on ketchup on a dog if you’re over the age of 13

u/72RangersFan 10d ago
I’ve never heard of such. Who puts beans on a hotdog? I mean chili is great but that’s obviously not chili because it’s obviously beans.
1
u/shadowsipp 10d ago
I love chili beans. I recently made chili cheese fries, with chili that had beans.
I once worked at a restaurant that sold spaghetti noodles, topped with chili with beans, and customers loved it!
Hot dogs with chili beans really isn't that weird.

u/snarkaluff 10d ago
The only reason I wouldn’t put beans on a hotdog with chili is just because it’d be too much. I like hot dog chili to be thin and smooth like a sauce. But cut up hot dogs in a bowl of chili with beans.. that’s good shit

u/Bored-Dumbass 10d ago
I mean I don’t like beans in my chili but I wouldn’t be upset or judge someone else for having it in theirs… not gross just not my thing. Dude is just an asshole

As far as I know, beans are part of the thickening agent in many coney sauces. Coney dogs = chili dogs to a lot of people. I don't know what their problem was. You can put whatever you want on a hotdog, as long asvyou enjoy it.
1
u/Anxiousfit713 10d ago
You are allowed to dip bread into chilli but not the other way around apparently.
1
u/sorryiateyoursocks 10d ago
i prefer no beans for a chili dog, but if you like yours with beans who cares? you like what you like it's not hurting anyone, plus i wouldn't say that's weird anyway.

Beans in chili is a polarizing topic. I’ve been told beans don’t go in chili but to me the beans hook it up with flavor and nutrition. Adds a good amount of healthy fiber and protein. I’m on the bean team.

I don’t see how the beans make that much of a difference in a hot dog topping. In fact, if you had a backyard bbq, what’s going with the hot dogs? Baked beans probably. Why not put them on the hot dogs? It’s a chili dog, and the beans are integrated into the main course. I’m from Rochester, NY. We have Garbage Plates that’s usually a hot dog, hamburger, cheeseburger, or both mixed together in a plate of Mac salad, home fries, and meat sauce (hot sauce with meat that’s exclusive to Rochester), with whatever toppings you want on it. It started in 1916, and since then, it’s turned into whatever you want to put in there, is what you’re having. There’s nothing wrong with a simple chili dog that has beans in it. As a Rochesterian, I encourage it.

Chili with beans in any way, shape, or form is sacrilege!!! True Texas chili has no beans. Hotdogs chili is more of a sauce. Either is great on hotdogs.

In my opinion, chili with no beans in any situation defies the original purpose of the food. Chili exists to stretch the expensive part (meat) with something extremely cheap (beans).
Chili with no beans is some first world stuff for real.

Chili was invented sans beans but beans have been added to chili for nearly as long s chili has existed. Some people have claimed it was the very same cooks who invented chili that added beans first. Which makes sense. Beans add another layer of heartiness to chili. And them was cowboy times so you wanted filling food. You don’t have to like beans in your chili but you can’t discount its legitimacy.

It's a weird regional thing that some people are super die hard about for whatever reason.
I grew up in an area where it's extremely rare to find just meat chili unless you're at a restaurant or want to make your own from scratch so chili dogs with beans is the norm

It looks like a Sloppy Joe or ground beef BBQ (but with beans and cheese also added), and on a hoagie or hot dog roll instead of a hamburger roll. If it's similar, I can see it tasting good. Is there a hot dog hiding under there? If so, it's like a chili dog. Chili dogs are popular throughout the US.

Have you ever told someone to go fuck themselves? This is one of those situations of if it tastes good to me who cares what you think.
People put all sorts of shit on a hot dog and if beans is where they draw the line I question why they even have the right to an opinion when you can do whatever you want.
For me I like beans in chili as it adds more dimension than lightly wet meat soup that some people call “their” form of chili. As with everything opinions are just that a subjective definition of their truth.
