That's...spagetti...

u/ReallyEvilRob 8d ago
Yes it is. That's traditionally how you serve Cincinnati style chili.

u/NMazer 8d ago
I've had Skyline. Only thing worse than that is Chili Man.

To each their own.

u/NMazer 8d ago
I just don't think meat should be sweet personally.

u/ReallyEvilRob 8d ago
I guess you don't enjoy a lot of BBQ or Asian meat dishes then. Regardless, sweet is definitely not the dominant flavor of this chili.

u/NMazer 8d ago
I have had Skyline. I don't like Asian correct mostly but I like spicy BBQ.

Skyline is crap in the chili world. Create you own dish and don't glom onto chili which this ain't.
2
u/NMazer 8h ago
Tell that to Ohioians lol.

u/Comprehensive-Mix510 7h ago
I've had it and it isn't anything to brag about.
Is this the best they (Cincinnati) have to offer?

Does it have cinnamon?

A little bit. Coco powder too. This is the recipe I used as a base and deviated from slightly. Some of the water was in the form of beer. I increased the chili powder a little. I didn't have any chocolate on hand so I used coco powder. No cloves and no allspice.

substituting cheese with onions, would be perfect for r/OnionLovers
2
u/ReallyEvilRob 9d ago
The onions aren't so much a substitution as I just didn't have any cheese on hand at the time I made this.

Looks like meat sauce, not chili.

Cincinnati style chili usually does look like meat sauce.

I just googled "what is Cincinnati chili?" And the very first link said "a spiced meat sauce." π

Cincinnati chili is meat sauce
2
u/Comprehensive-Mix510 9d ago
Right, it's meat sauce, it's not chili.

u/Chronarch01 Pepper Enthusiast πΆοΈ 8d ago
Don't be like that. Everyone that likes Cincinnati chili, already admits that it's not the same as "traditional" chili, which already varies by region, and is still also a meat sauce.

u/Comprehensive-Mix510 8d ago
I had at it Skyline. It ain't good.

You missed what I was saying. Everyone knows it's a Greek meat sauce. I have never seen anyone claim that it is chili and fills the same void as craving chili. When I want chili, I get chili. When I want skyline chili, I get skyline.

This is a generic reminder message under every image post
Thank you for your picture post to r/chili. We want to remind everyone of Rule #1. All image posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is encouraged.
If you've posted a picture of chili, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn't really fostering any discussion which is what we're all aiming for.
Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.
Thank you!!

Isn't this still a 3 way, with three ingredients.
1
u/ReallyEvilRob 8d ago
I'm pretty sure a 3-way is required to be made with cheese. A 4-way can be cheese and beans, or cheese and onions. I'm not from Cincinnati so maybe I'm wrong in my interpretation.

It's probably a shot at the concept, not your cooking. Cincinnati chili is super divisive

Nah. He lives to insult people's posts about food. I checked out his profile. Some of his insults are funny.
