Thoughts on Chef John's Mississippi Chicken Chili?

What are your thoughts about this recipe from Chef John? Does this deserve to be called chili?

I suppose if Cincinnati meat sauce can be considered chili, then anything can be considered chili.

I actually had some a few weeks ago. Stopped into Cincinnati to try it. I didn't care for it over pasta, but it was good on hot dogs. I bought some Cincinnati Chili mix online and made my own version of it at home. It's good on hot dogs. But no, I'm wouldn't call it Chili, even if everyone in that city does.

Agreed. there are a lot of weird chilies out there, and this isn't any worse than any of those, so why not? I'd never make it, but it seems fine enough.

Gave this a try with some tweaks/additions. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Texas has declared a fatwa on Chef John.

He didn't call it Texas Chili, so we don't care.

I do not care for the flavor profile of Mississippi pot roast, so I figured I would not like this. I do think fusion stuff like this can be quite interesting. This one just isn't for me.

I am Texan. This chili has beans. This is legitimate. It isn't Texas chili, but it also doesn't claim to be. Look at the name!
