Fedora 42 fully working OOTB on 2017 Pixelbook (EVE) (Kaby-Lake win!)
I was turning old computers into servers and I picked up my 2017 Pixelbook to use it as a server. Turns out the latest Fedora release, Fedora 42 with linux kernel 6.15.4
Everything works including:
-Auto Brightness
-Tablet mode (with proper screen rotation and disabled keyboard)
-Touchpad
-AUDIO (Super win considering the kernel had to be modded at one point to support additional audio configs
It runs very stable, super clean.
I have an old hwdb file used to keymap the top row if anyone would like it

I would like it. I plan to do exactly this in 27. Did you need a SuzyQable?

I actually was one of the crazy ones that opened my Pixelbook to disable write and repaired it myself. I dont recommend this. The risk of breaking things is VERY high. That said theres now an adapter that converts a USB C cable to a SuzyQable for CCD. Its available on ebay for like 5 bucks

NICE! I am running windows 11 on my wife's. Did the SUZY Q method, however I did open it and may again to upgrade the WiFi to AX210 like my ThinkPad. I undervolted a bit and scoring above the 5300 in Cinebench R20. Was at 417 now around 550. Can hit 570 - almost 600, but it's not stable. Usually works fine until reboot then fails with BSOD.

Right now im watching my battery slowly die (it keeps charging even at 100%) so now I am thinking to just open it and disconnect the battery altogether so it just runs on AC power

I'm just running Ubuntu 24.04 with RW_Legacy with my pixelbook. Only thing I don't have is speaker audio

Pretty sure if you upgrade to a version with a newer kernel it will work. I need to check to see which Kernel it started working but I know its a 6.15 Linux kernel

Even without the UEFI firmware?

Not sure if that should stop it. Not an expert but I know that its definitely related to the kernel. Boot a live Fedora disk and if it works you should be fine with an upgrade. Or you can try installing the new kernel through the Ubuntu mainline PPA

Definitely worth a try. Appreciate the tips.

No problem. Let me know how it goes! Im not using mine as a daily driver but it runs my servers very well without getting hot. But I may disconnect the battery tonight
