i’m having a real hard time figuring out what brand this classical guitar is. I know it says it’s made in Japan, but the sticker inside of it is nonexistent, but it has the glue marks so if anyone knows and could help me also I wanna know if the neck is ruined or not. Thank you.

I've been playing guitar seriously for 2 years, 1 year focused on classical, have played the 20 first etudes of Carcassi (with lower tempo) and BWV 996 Gigue (20 bpm)

The first 2 pages of this piece (moonlight sonata 1st movement in Dm by Tarrega) involve a lot of awkward chords, my hand hurt the yesterday & today, today was less, but I'm wondring if I'm putting my left hand's health at risk, the most awkward chord is Dbmaj7 on the last line in the picture.

Many guitarists rely on a network of people who believe in their art. How did you cultivate those relationships with concert series directors, artistic managers, and other gatekeepers in the classical music world? Are there any networking strategies you've found particularly effective that might be different from traditional approaches?

What are your favorite classical guitar arrangements of whatever you love, whether it be orchestral works or pop songs? Lately I've been looking for arrangements of popular tunes to make my repertoire more light-hearted, and many of Noriyasu Takeuchi's arrangements have a nice balance to them where it feels rewarding without being too difficult.

One example of an orchestral piece that I love is Venancio Garcia Velasco's arrangement of Granados's Intermezzo (from Goyescas Opera) for solo guitar - it's a captivating piece that doesn't seem as difficult as other works by Granados, yet it's almost always performed as a duet.

Such a gorgeous tune. First half is pretty much there. Second half is gunna be a little more difficult. Some awkward movements with the pinky. Loving it so far.

My good old 90ies Yamaha CG-170CA has this nasty looking crack. I think it has grown over the years. Is the guitar safe to play or will it crack in half any time?

I plan to buy a new guitar, but want to save up for a higher end model. While saving, I would love to continue playing but don’t want to pay hundreds for repairing something that is worth much less than the repair price.

Isn't that putting too much pressure on both the strings and the guitar? I personally do it gradually, but idk if that's reasonable or unnecesary.

Hi y'all, I got this guitar a couple weeks back and I'm feeling a bit lost I wasn't planning on getting it, but when I had the chance to get it for $5, I took it. I've always wanted to learn electric and acoustic. I honestly didn't know that classical was it's own thing until after I got it. Do you guys have any recommendations for free or cheap one-time-purchase lessons? Is the fingernail thing as big of a deal as it seams? Any pitfalls I should worry about? Anything helps. I really want to learn

Of course, everybody here knows what classical guitar is on a surface level. But I came here figure out what actually defines what classical guitar truly is. Is it the instrument? The playing technique its associated with? The repertoire? I think its fair to say that all three play a pretty big part but what matters the most? If someone plays a jazz standard and even improvises over it on a classical guitar while using classical technique , would you say that person is playing classical guitar or jazz guitar? Contrarily if someone decided to play a classical guitar prelude by villa lobos on an telecaster can that still be considered classical guitar? I think you see what I'm getting at here. I'm just curious to know everyone here thinks is important to "Classical Guitar" and what really defines it.

I have a Juan Hernandez concierto 2014. Bought it second hand on eBay about a year ago. Was over the moon with it, playing beautifully, then after 6 months decided to change the strings. After this string change I have noticed real lack of sustain on 2nd and 8th frets on the top E string. Weirdly only these notes. They sound half muted almost. I thought it must be a string problem - have since tried 2 more sets, currently have Knobloch EDC 34s on (which are the strings juan Hernandez sell the guitar with). Problem is the same. Have taken to 2 different guitar techs in my area who said everything looks good with the guitar and they don’t know what the problem is. I’m wondering if the problem has arisen as I removed all the strings at once and then the bridge or nut have moved a bit? Otherwise I’m at a loss. But for sure, something happened when I changed the strings that has resulted in this. And ultimately it’s just less enjoyable to play. I’m looking for a classical guitar specialist who can help me diagnose and fix the problem. Any help much appreciated

Hello! Can anyone recommend a luthier in South London to do a simple repair job for me (regluing bridge)?

Opened my guitar case this morning to find the bridge had flown clean off my guitar! It seems very ‘clean’, i.e. the glue has just failed somehow and the wood is intact. I understand this should be a simple job but since this is a nice luthier made guitar I’m keen the repair is done properly!

Hi r/classicalguitar, I wanted to ask, is it normal for new >$1500 guitars to have unsealed, stained ebony fretboards that stain your fingers after playing? Frankly, I find it inappropriate.

I purchased a new Esteve 8F for learning / playing classical and flamenco music. I noticed after playing for 30 mins or so, I was consistently getting darkened fingers where my fingers touched the fretboard. The first couple of times I didn’t really connect it to the guitar, then after it consistently happening, and honestly getting worse, I contacted the guitar shop and brought it in. They brushed me off saying it was uncolored ebony and couldn’t do much to help. After some researching online, contacting another Luthier, and testing unstained ebony vs my neck, I determined my fretboard is stained. I have never had this issue with steel stringed guitars in the >$1000 price range. Even wiping with a dry (or especially wet paper towel), a lot of color comes off. I saw in one other thread that someone had an Esteve guitar with this same fretboard issue, mentioning that their cleaning cloth looked like it was dipped in coal after wiping it down.

Goal: to become great at guitar. I will leave what that means to your interpretation.
