Discussion Project Discovery - 1999 - Batch 02
I'll post a new batch every so often and each batch will feature four sections:
The first section will be the ranking and will have 10 tunes from number 1 counting down that tallied the most across all the compilations (note they aren't all trance tunes as many cd's covered multiple dance genres. When a tally added up to the same, the tunes were separated based on peak UK chart position). Do not read too much into this ranking. It's just for fun. It's kinda interesting to see which songs featured most, but there are so many variables it really does mean little.
The second section will have 5 of the 50+ compilations that featured in the project, for your reference. Be sure to check them out. All the compilations featured were across at least 2 CDs, had at least 24 tracks, were mixed (at a minimum "partially", in nearly all cases fully) and featured multiple labels (I.e. I didn't include a record labels own compilation, like Hooj Choons, Defected, Xyravaganza and Positiva who all had them).
The third section will have 5 tunes that I discovered during this project and really liked. Some of these you will of course already know, but hopefully, there should be some you haven't. Fingers crossed!
The fourth section will have some general info from me. I'll share responses to any questions that I think are worthwhile highlighting, and I'll share any caveats / things to consider regarding the project.
Don't forget to comment if you have any questions or enjoyed any of the discoveries!

GENERAL INFO.
Keep in mind that whislt this is covering specifically 1999, compilation CDs released in January and February 1999 had a lot of 1998 and those released in December 1999 had a few 2000.
Also, 1999 saw the arrival of many new compilation series, not least, Trance Nation from the Ministry of Sound. That compilation CD actually opens with Robert Miles - Children. It seems many of these compilations brought older tunes to the fore - just one big party all year really!
2000 featured in a lot of names! Predictably. As long as the UK release date was in 1999, it was included.
Someone commented: "such and such isn't trance". Correct! The compilation CD's had various dance genres on them. I've tallied everything collectively and the majority is trance. I don't feel it's for me to dictate what I share with you based on what I deem to be "trancey" enough. Better to share it all and you can pick through as you please. Besides, house and trance were both awesome in 1999. You'd be mad to not want to see it all!
At the moment it's looking like there will be at least 10 batches. That will cover the top 100 ranking, 50 of the compilation cd's and reveal 50 hidden gems.
I'm only posting this in classic trance. Feel free to share far and wide as you wish. No restrictions. I'll post Batch 2 soon. Just search Project Discovery to find future posts.
