it def looks less purple in the photo than irl but I see it lol

u/UnpopularUKOpinion Aug 06 '25

Aren't you just missing the white stripe even if the blue is purple?

NB is Yellow-White-Purple-Black.

45

u/Big-Challenge-9432 Aug 07 '25

Yeah it’s the wrong order and “purple” is way too dark

30

u/UnpopularUKOpinion Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

Yeah, out of all the ones to get wrong, considering the history of "lavender" with the LGBT+ community...

I absolutely wouldn't comment on someone's bag because it looks vaguely like a specific pride flag if you ignore the colour with the most history and put the background in the middle of it.

I'd assume it wasn't that flag and move on.

Edit: Also even if it WERE the NB flag (which it's not), I wouldn't comment because I'm there to climb, not discuss gender identities.

5

u/Bunny__Vicious Aug 07 '25

True. The only times I can remember discussing gender identities at the gym were times when friends had gender affirming surgeries and we discussed their recovery and how they feel getting back on the wall.

u/THICC_Baguette Aug 07 '25

I think it's the difference between the rope and the fabric. The rope is very bright purple, whereas the fabric is a darker, blueish purple. So it registers more as blue than purple, because there's a more purple purple present.

Theres like a million different chalk bags out there, and the only ones who keep dragging my attention are those fuzzy monster ones. Otherwise i dont even look at other peoples stuff so🤷🏼

8

u/youngfierywoman Aug 07 '25

We sell these at my work, and I'm so tempted to get one to use as a regular purse! They look so fun! I don't climb, yet, but I enjoy all the accessories!

10

u/Sastrugiak Aug 07 '25

What are you waiting for, time to go climbing!

14

u/youngfierywoman Aug 07 '25

A nasty combo of a fear of heights, and intrusive (suicidal) thoughts that come when I'm up high unfortunately. I'm working on it. It looks like a lot of fun!

2

u/Familiar-Corgi9302 Aug 07 '25

Good thing you're wearing a harness and tied into a rope!

2

u/Bunny__Vicious Aug 07 '25

Ooooh yeah, I used to deal with that as well. It was before I started climbing, but tiny gods damnit if bridges and cliffs weren’t the most tempting, awful things back then.

4

u/Anxiousextrovert1231 Aug 07 '25

Woah that got dark real fast…

1

u/Previous_Theory_1964 Aug 08 '25

I have a handmade one that it’s a frog with abs, it gets a lot of attention 🐸

It doesn't help that Organic Climbing bags kind of all look the same (like, stripes of color). But also with the stripes fanning out rather than being the same width + not having the white stripe make it much less obvious to me. Also climbing/athletic gear generally has all these bright colors (I'm always just fantasizing about a pair of monochromatic shoes that fit me)

Maybe a pin or something could make it more obvious :)

4

u/Intrepid-Current6648 Enby Aug 07 '25

I mean, you can make any shoe monochromatic with a sharpie

1

u/Familiar-Corgi9302 Aug 07 '25

Tenaya and so ill make black and white climbing shoes

u/Icy-Reporter2931 Aug 07 '25

My friend, frankly I’m spending most of my time looking at someone else flash the V3 I’ve been spending 40 minutes working on and crying inside, let alone look at someone’s chalk bag.

Also how would someone even comment on that without sounding rude? “Nice chalk bag, are you a nonbinary?” Sounds weird in my head

157

u/Winerychef Aug 06 '25

I'm non binary and the likelihood I would clock this is near zero. Better off wearing an enby shirt or something

33

u/Intrepid-Current6648 Enby Aug 07 '25

I honestly like wearing subtle hints that only I get. Like wearing nothing but NB branded socks 😂

4

u/Winerychef Aug 07 '25

LMFAO fair

1

u/Doll_girl516 Aug 07 '25

I do this as well haha

1

u/Intrepid-Current6648 Enby Aug 07 '25

Plus New Balance socks honestly just look kinda dope, too

9

u/misseviscerator Aug 07 '25

I’m NB and didn’t know what the flag was. I was aware there is one but never thought to check it out. I wonder how many people would even recognise it.

7

u/UnpopularUKOpinion Aug 07 '25

I’m NB and didn’t know what the flag was

Nor did OP apparently...

83

u/togtogtog Aug 06 '25

It's the first time I've heard of it, so I wouldn't have said anything. Also, I might be shy of saying the wrong thing if I did know...

41

u/pm_me_your_amphibian Aug 07 '25

Are they supposed to?

171

u/Yellowbird00 Aug 06 '25

¯_(ツ)_/¯ do most people just go around assuming you're trying to convey something by colors you're wearing?

61

u/Temporary_Spread7882 Aug 06 '25

I guess if more people knew that this colour combo mean something, there’d be a higher chance of someone connecting over it.

But also, you may have noticed that people often err on the side of caution in deciding whether to comment on a stranger’s clothes/style/accessories without being asked - no matter how positive the intent, there’s a real chance of it being taken as intrusive, pushy or creepy.

And finally… many people at a climbing gym just genuinely mind their own business and aren’t particularly interested in the gender identity of strangers around them.

-15

u/cactusqro Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

I definitely assume the pink/purple/blue combo on like, anything, means the person is bi. To a lesser extent, unicorns too.

Edit: Woah, I’m surprised by all the downvotes. Genuine question—why? I’m bi. I love seeing pink/purple/blue stuff on people’s gear, backpacks, accessories when I’m out and about. I like to think of them as kindred spirits.

2

u/Familiar-Corgi9302 Aug 07 '25

What does someone who only wears all black mean

0

u/cactusqro Aug 07 '25

I just realized my comment was downvoted a bunch and I edited it to ask why. So I don’t wanna answer your question because I feel like it’s some sort of trick/trap I don’t get 😅😭

2

u/Familiar-Corgi9302 Aug 07 '25

Nah not really, I didn't understand all the down votes either. Im one of those people who started wearing black in high school and never stopped and I've always wondered if it means something to others lol I just like it, it's what I feel most comfortable in

2

u/cactusqro Aug 07 '25

I’d assume someone wearing all black all the time is part of, or interested in, some sort of “alternative” culture, whether that’s goth, emo, skater, punk, metal, rock, into tattoos, or something of that sort (not knowing hardly anything about those subcultures, myself). That’s setting aside professional reasons (e.g., suits).

1

u/LittleWhiteGirl Aug 08 '25

I would imagine it’s the unicorns portion of the comment that annoyed people.

2

u/cactusqro Aug 08 '25

Huh. I wonder why? In my mind, it’s a tongue-in-cheek symbol of bisexuality because unicorns aren’t real, and so many people think bi people aren’t “real” (someone straight just experimenting, or gay but not ready to fully come out yet). That’s what I was taught it meant in college anyways. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe people here thought it was in reference to being a “third” to a man/woman couple? That’s the only other meaning I’m aware of.

1

u/LittleWhiteGirl Aug 08 '25

That’s definitely how I interpreted unicorn, I’ve never heard the other explanation.

39

u/Professional-Dot7752 Aug 07 '25

Wait…did I accidentally stumble upon r/ClimbingCircleJerk by mistake?

5

u/a1rbud Aug 07 '25

I had to double-check too lmaoooo

40

u/h4t5u Aug 07 '25

Why do you need people to comment on your chalk bag tbh?

34

u/leclercwitch Aug 07 '25

But why would anyone care? We’re at the gym to climb.

-8

u/BoulderRat Aug 07 '25

Because it means a lot to others in the queer community knowing they aren’t the only ones, and they are safe with them.

16

u/marimint3 Aug 07 '25

I'm NB and wouldn't have noticed

15

u/Shacrow Aug 07 '25

Cis straight male here with a rainbow chalkbag. It happened to be the only one available when my old chalk bag ripped at a gym.

It's been 1-2 years and no one ever commented on it either nor do I care if anyone thinks I'm gay though. I think everyone couldn't care less and just wanna climb haha.

15

u/a1rbud Aug 07 '25

Lmao this must be satire

14

u/papabear345 Aug 07 '25

It would also be odd if u accidentally wore a NB colour coordination and had people assume your were NB.

It’s also a bit of a sensitive topic to broach

33

u/AshlingIsWriting Aug 07 '25

it might be a liiiiiitle too subtle for people to say something about it outright to a stranger, but it's still very cute!

55

u/irishfire30 Aug 07 '25

Hot take, no one cares. Work on climbing 😂

9

u/Blumenkohl126 Aug 07 '25

Dont wanna be that one, but arnt the colours wrong..?

52

u/chavodel420 Aug 07 '25

Are you doing it for attention?

6

u/Deoxyrynn Aug 07 '25

Dawg, you may be blue/purple colorblind bc that definitely leans more blue.

This sub aims to be supportive & inclusive of all who identify as a part of or ally to the women's climbing community.

Negativity, sarcasm, and other interactions that work against that should find another home.

15

u/Intrepid-Current6648 Enby Aug 06 '25

Oh that’s such a coincidence, I’m waiting for the delivery of my enby XL chalk bag! Went with inverted colors so the main background color was black, though

As a fellow enby, you undoubtedly have some pride pins. Might as well make recognition slightly easier for people by putting one on there, just for reinforcement 😂

3

u/mkava 5.fun Aug 06 '25

I have some pride pins on my chalk bag (and my purse... and my jacket.. and pride stickers on everything else) for that reason. I wouldn't assume non-binary colors by the bag alone, and if I did see them, I wouldn't assume the person's gender or identity off of one hint alone.

As a genderfluid trans girlie, I do wish more things came in those colors, but non-binary feels just as good so I have a ton of subtle (and not so subtle) references to that in my accessories and the like. I love being visibly queer though!

5

u/Doll_girl516 Aug 07 '25

I honestly wouldn’t have noticed 😭😭I’m so sorry 😭

5

u/Soggy_Weetbix420 Aug 07 '25

Am I colour blind????

5

u/KittyMimi Aug 07 '25

It’s very cute but I would have no clue that it’s NB, so please don’t take a lack of external validation personally - you custom-designed a cute chalk bag from organic, all that matters is you love it and you’re proud of yourself. r/AmIBeingTooSensitive :)

15

u/Heated13shot Aug 07 '25

I have their non-binary bucket.

No one has noticed it's non-binary colors, even other queer people. Our flag is just too niche for anyone to notice

1

u/Intrepid-Current6648 Enby Aug 07 '25

A fitting metaphor, unfortunately

3

u/National_Beginning_7 Aug 07 '25

that just looks like a funky chalkbag

4

u/jz88k They / Them Aug 07 '25

That bag is so cool! I'm not surprised that people don't catch it though. I climb in an enby flag tank top pretty often and I've only once had someone remark on recognizing the flag.

-10

u/JimClarkKentHovind Aug 07 '25

yeah, with the general population I think it's pretty uncommon for people to know a pride flag other than just the rainbow

even most of my nb friends didn't know the colors of the nb pride flag until I showed them. it's just a pretty niche flag that not many people will catch

13

u/UnpopularUKOpinion Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

even most of my nb friends didn't know the colors of the nb pride flag until I showed them

Did you also tell them the colour order matters, yellow is on the outside because it represents those outside the gender binary and white is inside and the importance of Lavender (rather than a blue that looks a bit purple in some lights)?

The colours are specifically:

  • Vivid yellow
  • Cosmic latte (Or white)
  • Lavender
  • Black

It would be like turning up with a bag that was purple and red on a white background and going "nobody commented on my French flag"

6

u/KittyMimi Aug 07 '25

I noticed OP isn’t acknowledging the lack of the white stripe or the accurate colors, you’re not the only one being ignored about it

4

u/misseviscerator Aug 07 '25

Why is it important for NB people to know the flag? I’m NB and just interested to know the reasons. Because if people wore it as a way to identify themselves I could understand that as a reason but equally I’m not sure that holds up because I still wouldn’t want to assume anything.

-2

u/JimClarkKentHovind Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

I never said it's important for people to know it, nor do I really think it is

I think it's important for people to be aware of non-binary identities but those have existed for much longer than the flag

2

u/Hi_Jynx Aug 07 '25

It looks too much like a regular chalk bag. It's cute enough, but so are most chalk bags and the design and color just fit in with the general vibe and colors of a typical chalk bag. So definitely nailing the climbing chalk bag aesthetic, but people are really only going to comment on the unusual ones.

2

u/BoulderRat Aug 07 '25

NB here but wouldn’t have noticed, but it’s real nice 😊

4

u/pineapples372 Aug 07 '25

i think yall are taking OP's title too seriously, i think its more like, "look at my cool chalk bag" lol!

0

u/cranberryb Aug 07 '25

i cannot believe how far down this comment is lol

3

u/Fetusal Aug 07 '25

I'm not sure I'd clock it as such but I would probably compliment it and comment on how to looks like the nb flag, because that's what I do with every bag that looks like the lesbian one.

2

u/karmasperros Aug 07 '25

Nobody cares

2

u/isabatboi Aug 07 '25

Im a big fan of the more subtle pride stuff, i didnt notice it was an nb pride chalk bag at first but dayummm its cool!!!

6

u/TheHighker Ally Aug 07 '25

Probably since the colors arent even in the right order

1

u/coolestpelican Aug 08 '25

You're a climber, everyone already assumed you're NB! 🤭😉

Just kidding, I love it though

1

u/NiceSheepherder8922 28d ago

I bought a new chalk bag

1

u/emmyellinelly Aug 06 '25

I love it! (Also I know that feeling. Nothing better than someone recognizing your sneaky nonbinary rep., and nothing worse than no one recognizing it lol)

1

u/KaterPatater Aug 06 '25

I really want to find a thin nylon belt with the nonbinary flag colors for my chalk bag but haven't had any luck. I may have to settle for water bottle stickers.

1

u/Sea_Drops Aug 06 '25

Okay, that is so cool!

-1

u/EllaHazelBar Aug 07 '25

Omg it's so cool ❤️😍🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

0

u/heatherb22 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

Damn!

-1

u/AsteroidTicker Aug 07 '25

I love it! I’m sorry nobody’s said anything! Though I could imagine not wanting to just out someone (or themself) in a public space like that lol, maybe people are noticing and just not commenting?

-4

u/maquina-draconica Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

Stawp it! It’s amazing 😝😝😝. I would def say something and would show you my unicorn rainbow chalk bag.

Add a pin with the little symbol of nb gender queer.

0

u/babygap420 Aug 08 '25

I for one love your non binary flag chalk bag!! 🖤💜💛

-4

u/phryxl Aug 07 '25

I love it! I would have clocked it right away :)
