Mod Sticky: New Users, Please Read This Before Posting

If you are coming here as a new account, welcome! If you are trying to ask a question please read below in order to ensure that your post gets the help you need.

Before you post, check the sidebar to see if there is a better place you could be asking your question. You are always welcome to post your question here, but you may get quicker or more specialized help by posting it in the right subreddit.

Also, before you ask a question, please GOOGLE IT. Low effort questions that are easily googled will be downvoted. Please don't be a Help Vampire.

Posting tips to get your answer fast:

  1. Tell us as much information as you possibly can.
  2. Tell us what you have already done to try to fix it
  3. Tell us what changed when the problem started
  4. Make a title for your post that actually describes the problem. "Please help" is a terrible post title.
  5. Make a TEXT POST and NOT a LINK POST. If you are a new user and you make a link post it will be removed automatically. If you want to share pictures, upload them on an image hosting site like imgur and then paste the links into your text post.

Click HERE to ask a question.

Please read the rules HERE.

There is a more detailed posting guide HERE

Thanks and enjoy your stay!

Any idea what this means?

Hey there, I'm not the greatest at knowing hardware and how things work externally but I keep seeing this red light (Consistently doing the same flashes) and I don't know if its under the m2 drive or under my GPU.

Does anyone know what this could mean? I think I have a asustek prime b660-plus d4 motherboard and a RTX 3060TI.

Thanks :)

Pc keeps crashing/freezing +specs

Hello everyone. My pc keeps randomly crashing which makes everything freeze and I have to hold the power button down to shut it off. Which isn't. The best obviously but ctrl+alt+del doesn't work and neither does the graphics card reset combination. At first it only happened when I pressed the windows button or ctrl+esc but now it randomly crashes every few hours. At first I thought it was Google so I deleted the default folder and that seemed to help some but it didn't fix it. I ran the system check command, I used the folder cleanup and i updated my graphics and video drivers. Neither of those 3 worked.

Specs

I'm on the latest version of windows 11 Graphics card: RTX3060 12GB Video driver: AMD ryzen 7 7700x - 4.5GHz Storage 1: Kingston NV1 2TB Storage 2: Kingston NV1 1TB Motherboard: gigabyte aurus x670 elite ax

Fan in laptop stops running

Upvotes

I have Acer Aspire A515-55, that started overheating a while ago. I noticed that the fan is not running at all so I bought a NEW one. I installed it, changed thermal paste and it seemed to work but it only works when booting. Once the system is up and running the fan stops and only twitches and CPU starts overheating. Restarting system or closing and opening laptop lid makes the fan running again at full speed for some time cooling the CPU but eventually it stops and CPU is overheating again. Bios is updated to latest version, and restored to default, but I can't see fan setting in bios. I tried some programs to control fan speed, but any of it recognized the fan. I have no idea what to do now. I've been searching for solution for couple days now but found nothing helpful. I hope you can help me.

Here are videos showing how the fan is working. https://youtube.com/shorts/WqxSJ6F72tU?si=XiE2G1vBGQd0V-Ga

I am an electrical engineering student at a university who currently owns a MacBook. Unfortunately, the MacBook has been causing me too many obstacles with my work, such as not being able to download Multisim and SolidWorks, etc., so I am stuck between these two laptops as a replacement. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Flash drive accidentally wiped

Hello, Reddit:

I’m looking for some advice. My flash drive was accidentally wiped when I plugged it into an extension port that can be kind of finicky. Is there a way that I can recover what was on the flash drive?

Thank you for any advice; I also posted in r/techsupport

Issues with HDD 3.5" SATA drive.. clicking sounds and won't show up

Please disregard the "virus" you see written on the drive. That's just what I named the drive.

I've got two identical drives (Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s./7200RPM). They have been sitting in a broken desktop for a few years. I finally got a USB adaptor today and decided to hook them up and copy the files to a new drive. After hooking up the first drive, it started making this clicking sound, but eventually showed up in the "This PC)" folder on my computer and I was able to copy the files. Now it shows up every time I connect it. Great!

However, I'm not so fortunate with the second drive, it makes the same clicking sound but never shows up in my "This PC" folder. After a few minutes, it eventually stops clicking and pretty much gives up, never showing up. I'm afraid the drive might be dead or something. Is there anything I can do to recover the files from the second drive? I keep unplugging and replugging it in, hoping it might work one of these times.

SSD is completely undetectable

I was just about to chill out and play some games when my computer said the files are undetectable. I look around and I surprisingly find that my D drive is no longer being detected by my PC. This is very strange as I just used my computer this morning and everything was completely normal. I have been looking at tutorials to find the drive again online, but everything says it should be detectable in disk manager or device manager, which is not the case. Is the SSD cooked or is there a way to find it again?

PC freezing and screen glitching

Post image
3 Upvotes

I loaded a game I play with friends (path of titans) and have never run into this before. It loads and then before I even do anything this happens, screen freeszes and glitches like this and I have to restart PC. When I do that everything seems ok but when I try to play anything this will happen again. Not sure if my graphics card gave up, but that seems unlikely due to being able to still use my PC.

I keep running into this strange issue where my computer (windows 11) suddenly gets this error message out of nowhere (usually when I try to open a program or webpage).

I recently moved to a new place and brought my computer with me. Never had this issue prior. None of the internals seem to be unplugged or damaged.

Additionally I have scanned for malware and did a memory diagnostic. Everything came back clear.

Drivers are up to date as well.

Not sure at all what is causing this. My PC is relatively new so I’m reasonably annoyed.

Would appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks!
