Is all blue cheese ranch but not all ranch blue cheese
All blue cheese has a ranch base therefore there is no blue cheese that is not ranch. Am I wrong?

Blue cheese dressing was invented before ranch, so I guess it's the other way around by your reasoning?

They're a similar base, but blue cheese dressing doesn't have the ranch seasoning in it.

Um, no. Both are creamy dressings, but ranch is more about its distinctive flavors (I say scallion and herb based, but I'm wrong a lot), and generally uses buttermilk, while blue cheese isn't so standardized. It may or may not use buttermilk, it may or may not use herbs, that sort of thing. I don't know how "ranch" is a category more than just a specific type of salad dressing.

They are both mayonnaise based sauces.
Emulsified egg and oil.
Where you go from there determines what kind of sauce you're working with.

This may be heresy, but garlic doesn't belong in blue cheese dressing. It overpowers the salty/creamy funk of the cheese. Good quality blue cheese in crumbles. Fresh cracked pepper. Ideally, it's mayonnaise as sour cream lacks the tang, and minced onion adds slight bite and sweetness. Maybe a spoon of heavy cream to make it the right texture for what you want.

Yeah, but only one is soup, watch until the end to find out which.
