General Tunnel Trash Update: The Good, The Bad, and The Bootlegs

Original Post

r/COsnow!

First, huge thanks to everyone who supported the original Tunnel Trash tee! The response was incredible - I've sold about 25 shirts so far, and I'm stoked so many of you connected with the design.

THE GOOD: The first test batch of shirts arrived. Shirt quality is amazing and the print came out great - here are a few photos from our Flavor Basin trip this weekend.

THE BAD: I woke up the morning after my post went viral to discover at least 20 knockoff websites already selling my design for half what I can even buy blank shirts for... They're offering it in different colors, on mugs, hoodies - you name it.

This is pretty eye-opening. What if I was a struggling artist who spent weeks on this design and site? The internet is wild.

THE FUTURE: I'm placing the final shirt order next week and will ship them out as soon as they arrive. For those interested in grabbing the original design from the actual local creator (printed on Comfort Colors pocket tees), you can find them at tunnel-trash.com for another week.

Thanks again for making this inside joke something special. See you in the parking lot.

Question Copper vs WP ski school

The only thing holding us back from Copper is the ski school price. I grew up skiing at Copper and love it. We paid $200/day per kid at WP with the lesson 5-pack. Otherwise WP is about $250/day. Copper is $379/day. We have two kids and that is a HUGE difference in price. I know ikon offers a 15% discount, but if you book online in advance, you get that same discount. Just looking for advice, WP ski school was great but we'd love to go to Copper too and the price discrepancy seems crazy!

Question Comfort Inn-Beavercreek

Does anyone know what’s going on with the comfort inn at Beavercreek? It’s been my go-to as the price is right, the rooms are clean, and it’s right on the free bus route. There are no rooms available after January 3. I’ve been checking for a few weeks.

Question Ski insurance recs?

I'm looking for options for injury insurance for ski season. Ideally similar to Spot, but it needs to be valid on both Ikon and Epic mountains as I have both passes. I'd like to be reimbursed up to 25k or so. For context, I am an independent contractor and don't have insurance, by choice. I'm not looking for full insurance at the moment. TIA!

Question Beginner ski pass recommendations

I haven’t skied in over 20 years, but I am looking into getting a start this upcoming season. My family just moved to Lafayette this past Spring, so geographically close to that area is a consideration. Also beginner friendly ski areas. Any recommendations on the pass I should be looking at? A lot of people here seem to recommend the epic pass, I just want to make sure I’m not wasting money.

I’m also looking at doing a season long rental unless I should need looking into something else.

Thanks in advance.

Question Ski Shopping Help

Hey so I’m moving from Florida and am looking for an all mountain ski. I am 5’9 (175cm) 175 lbs and have been skiing all my life, just always rented since it would be a hassle to fly with them every time. I’ve ski’d one or two weeks a year for about as long as I can remember out west and would like to think I handle myself well enough to qualify into the intermediate category. I hike to terrain, like tree runs, frequent blacks but end up having more fun on steeper blues if I’m doing groomers, sometimes do some baby jumps and park boxes nothing crazy. I’m looking for just one pair that can handle it all. Right now I’ve been looking at some used Atomic Bent 100’s (which I’m a bit uncertain on what length to get, as it seems the general consensus with them is to go a bit on the longer side so like 180 for me as opposed to 172?) and the Salomon QST line and was looking between the 92 and 98. If anyone has any advice or other suggestions throw them my way! Thanks! I am also looking for my 5’2 100lb fiancé as well (beginner skier), so women skis appreciated as well!

(I also snowboard and will be in the market for one as well at some point)

Question Springs to Jackson in January

Deciding whether to fly or drive for a ski trip to Jackson mid January. If I drive I’ll make a longer trip out of it and visit Tetons. Flying would obviously be quicker, but would give us less flexibility while there.

Does anyone have experience driving from springs to Jackson mid January that has any suggestions? Mainly thinking about poor road conditions. On the other hand wouldn’t have to pay to check my skis.

Their website doesn’t say and nobody is answering the phone. We have some out of town guests we’d like to bring up there.

If anyone has a spot on their parking pass left, I’ll split it with you. You get two vehicles per pass, so here’s to hoping!

General Looking for folks to help test my backcountry weather and avalanche app

Post image

I’m a local Colorado skier and computer nerd, working on a fall update for my backcountry iPhone app that displays weather station data, NOAA forecasts for summits and mountain passes and CAIC avy reports and field observations.

I’m giving a free lifetime subscription ($20 value) to folks who are able to test the app and provide feedback. Please message me your email and I’ll send an invite link for testing. Thanks!

Question Best places to stay long-term for skiing

Hey all! I’m a digital nomad looking to stay in Colorado for just over a month skiing off the Ikon pass. I normally work a full week and ski on weekends so I was hoping for some suggestions on good places to stay when commuting to the mountains.

I’m planning to split my time between Aspen and Steamboat, but I’ll probably spend most of my time near aspen to get a monthly booking discount. I love the idea of being able to try out a few other mountains nearby if that’s possible, but not sure what’s reasonable.

So far I’ve been looking into Glendale based off some suggestions online but any recommendations are awesome! I want to experience as much as I can of Colorado and the Ski scene while I’m here

Question Which resort has best terrain skiing and how do you get there?

I want to start chasing more storms this winter and curious about what resorts have best terrain for powder skiing? I’m on Epic if that helps. Breckenridge for example, has some hikes to get to decent terrain. I’m curious about other resorts and their respective terrain? I’m kind of thinking about giving up on resorts altogether and just doing backcountry to get decent terrain skiing. What say you find people?

General Remember folks, update your CC details for Epic Pass Renewals

Last year some poor soul forgot to update their credit card info and Epic couldn't renew their pass.

PSA. Confirm your billing information is correct.

This stuff gives me nightmares. Imagine paying the day rate. Ouch.

Question Silverthorne overnight parking options

Have a ski share condo that doesn’t have enough parking spots for us. Lowe’s is being vague saying it’s not technically allowed but that you can do it, main risk being snow removal operations. What are overnight parking options in silverthorne or near wildernest that you all have tried and had success with? Just to leave car overnight and grab in the morning, not car camping.

And no, I’m not asking for recommendations to take the bus or carpool.

Question Boots + fit service under ~$400?

Hi, beginner-intermediate skier here. Been renting all of my gear for the past season and I’m looking to make good ski boots my first real purchase.

From searching I know Boot Mechanics is well loved here, I’m just unable to afford the ~$800 that folks are quoting as their total expense there after the fitting service is credited to a boot purchase.

Am I out of luck looking for a quality boot fitter for less than that? Very new to the cost of gear investment so I don’t have much context for these numbers.

EDIT: I apologize for not being more clear, but I’m not in need of extensive custom work, I’m just looking to find a place with knowledgeable fitters who I can trust when recommending boots that will fit me well for my skill level. I completely agree that for custom work I’d need to up my budget.
