Housing/Στέγαση Property in Crete.
Wow. Capitalism sucks a big one. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a crazy leftie - I'm just a guy who believes in fairness. Seriously -whatever that means these days shrug I was looking at a small property to buy in Crete in my mother's village in the mountains. Only to see some UK mega-corporation built some ultra-lux monstrous stay accommodation. It was advertised as a house. Curious, I then follow the link to the website and see that the UK owner has a portfolio of properties around the EU.
Between, Spitogatos.gr , tospitimou.gr, plot.gr , remax.gr etc...THE WHOLE f##king island is for sale!
Όταν τελειώσουν τα χρήματα - δεν μπορείς να φας ένα σπίτι. Πρέπει να υπάρχουν και όρια..
It's sad and depressing.

Internet and realtor prices can be over-inflated. My brother bought a place in our village; internet price was 30k, but he paid 11k. This was quite a few years ago, but I think the same can be true now.
Try reaching out directly to villagers who have property they want to sell. Being connected to a local can be an advantage in this context.

And imagine that the Greek salary has the lowest purchasing power in the EU. Well surely the Greek rents are very high in comparison. Tourism and property investment are making so many places gentrified now, it's getting crazy.

Yes. I gather that. That of course should not be the case. Those who can read understand WHY this is the case. The property bubble and speculation has burst. (past tense). A massive part of that was from Schengen Area citizens/corporations buying property in Greece. The Greek government being complicit in those investments. I used the example of a property in my mother's village, owned by a UK corporation that has villas all over Greece. When those investments don't "perform" from a ROI perspective, someone has to pay. They get concessions from the Govt and the Government has to claw that back from someone...the poor bastard that has had his pension cut, or his taxes increased. This is why the German Government apparently has had a change of heart asking Greece to ease up on its tax collections. Greece did what the EU wanted, only for the EU to discover it's hurting THEIR "worthy", "precious" citizens and corporations who own property portfolios in Greece.
Bastards..
If you think I'm mistaken. Exactly this is playing out in Australia specifically with Commercial Properties and concessions from government..forcing workers back into the office or mandating pay cuts for those that refuse.

Getting a place there has always my dream but the more I look at it, I think that once I'd be able to go through with that idea, there wouldn't even be any Greek people living there anymore.
