Gifts from Greece that was well received:

  • olive oil
  • olives
  • Starbucks You are here mug (Chania, Crete, Athens and Greece have this souvenir mug) nobody I know likes Starbucks coffee but they still love those mugs lol
  • pottery
  • herbs
  • cosmetics (local made soaps, lotion, etc)
  • sea sponges (although that comes from another island yet sold everywhere)

Good ideas except for the sponges as they are live animals when harvested from the sea 😢

If you want a more "authentic" souvenir shop look for folk art (laikis teknis - Λαϊκής Τέχνης) shops. If you're in Chania I'm pretty sure there is a little shop with icons, knives etc here. Tbh most of that stuff is kinda tacky for us.

If you want something less "touristy", a lot of people seem to like olive based soaps, thyme honey, cretan mountain tea, wine, and olive oil as gifts from Crete. Personally when I was living abroad I was buying Terra Creta olive oil from the airport to take with me, since olive oil is heavy its easier to take on the plane like that.

Knives from Chania is a great idea, although you’ll probably have to have it mailed back.

Unless you put in checked bag that’s what I did.

I brought back a lot of honey and olive oil. Went way over on weight going back home but was totally worth it.

Besides olive oil/cheese/soaps, I really liked this shop and also this one in Chania

Thank you for this! I just added both stores to my itinerary!

I got a few olive wood cooking utensils, and then honey and wine. Honey adds a lot of weight to your checked bags, so just beware!

Sweets, Greek cosmetics, herbs, honey, olive oil. They often sell small tourist packages that you can take onboard a plane.

We brought back some ceramic works and necklaces from Margarites. There was a shop called "Her story" that we particularly liked.

Try a shop called Made-in Greece in the Heraklion market and ask for their fig rolls. A delicious and unique gift

If you are in Chania there is a cute shop called Wood Luck that sells carvings made from driftwood from the local beaches.

Some of the beauty oils are fantastic for keeping the tan nice when you come home. I bought BioSanto hair and body oil and it is lush. Think it’s produced in Santorini

Myzithra and anthotiros is some of the best cheese and it's from Crete buuut, the logistics of bringing it abroad would make zero sense. There are a few cheeses that last long outside of a fridge like graviera.
