Housing/Στέγαση Moving to Chania area

Hello all! My husband and I are planning to move from the states to the Chania area (likely somewhere in Akrotiri) and I have a couple questions:

- has anyone used Google Fi? Does it work well in Crete?
- any recommendations on neighborhoods/villages to look at? We have a 2 year old that will be attending the Theodoropoulou School in Korakies so we'd like to be fairly close to there.
- any recommendations on finding a rental? We've been on spiti24 but thought I'd see if there were others.

And of course happy to hear any tips/tricks/things to think about as we move. We're planning to move in late December and be in Crete for a year (at least) and I'm sure there are things we're forgetting.

Why specifically Google Fi? If you plan to stay for one year I guess you could make a contract with a local provider (cosmote for example). If you just don't want landline check Skytelecom, it's satellite internet.

Akrotiri area in general is very nice and quite I would say. Kounoupidiana, Pithari, Kalathas, all this area is pretty OK. Generally it's very hard to find home to rent in Chania but in Akrotiri is a bit easier because it's about 20min away from the city center.

Except Spiti24 and Spitogatos, I would search in Facebook Marketplace and local groups that are specifically for property rentals. If you want send me a dm and I will provide you some links.

Let me know if you have more questions

No reason for Google Fi other than we don’t have to buy a new SIM card/phone so when we go home to the states for vacation or whatever we don’t have to switch. But we’ll look into the local companies you suggested too 😊

That's awesome. I'd love to move to Crete from the states. Are you working remotely or did you find something there? Do you speak greek?

We both work remotely so we’re planning on applying for the digital nomad visa

Trying to convince my husband to do the same. Post updates so I can live vicariously through you!

Can do! I’m also launching a blog about it later in the year (I’m a copy editor by trade so figured why not?) planning to have the usual travel stuff, but also more how-tos on how to actually apply for the visa and move.
