I really can't understand this. The Zara, H&M and Havayianas stores all are full of Nordic people in Chania. There are many days where you can't even pass outside as a pedestrian because the whole block's sidewalk is occupied by a queue of tourists waiting to enter...

The prices here are more expensive, the collection is smaller, and items in high demand on these stores rarely go on sale in the summer.

I can't comprehend why anyone would spend 60€ on a 30% cotton t-shirt or factory made sandals when here you can get pristine quality and even handmade stuff to wear for cheaper.

So I just booked our family's tickets for our holiday and ryan air offered car rental. It offered a Peugeot 308 for around 100 euros for 9days. I booked it with all covered insurance for 160 euros total. The price seems suspiciously low, should I beware of any additional cost? I can cancel the booking for free until 2 days before we travel.

Checking out air travel prices from US to Chania and I ran into about a 1k difference booking the same flight through Aegean instead of Emirates. Even weirder, if I booked through Aegean, I was not allowed to choose my seat. Is this legit?

In September my SO and I are traveling to Crete and we were hoping to get some advice and tips about some topics from you guys 😊

We‘d love to start our vacation in an all inclusive Hotel/Resort where we can chill and relax for 4 days. Our budget is about 350€ max per night (~1000€ / 3 nights). Our priorities are good food, nice drinks, a beach nearby the accommodation and a nice room. We prefer adults only hotels, but it isn’t required.

Afterwards, we would love to rent a camper for about 5 to 7 days and discover the island. Is there a rental company on Crete you can recommend? The camper should have a bed with bedsheets, 2 chairs and a table for outside, an awning, towels and a possibility to cook (doesn’t matter if it has an internal stove or a gas cooking set) with at least basic cooking utensils. A bathroom would be nice but isn’t a necessity.

Hello. We are currently in Rethymno and we want to buy some local olive oil. I asked the farms in the area but they don't sell in this town and we don't have a car to buy directly from them.

Last year we bought olive oil from a farm near Heraklion for 9€ a 500 ml bottle and it was great. What shops or stores from Rethymno do you recommend to buy local olive oil for a good price?

Anyone know where to find test kits, chlorine or bromine for pools, hot tubs, or spas? Staying at a house that has a new hot tub in Herisonissos. The owner comes every 2-3 days to drain and refill so that it’s fresh. Super wasteful, I know, but he just reuses that water for his olive trees, which is cool, I guess. He doesn’t know where to get any chlorine, or bromine, so he just does that. Although he changed the filter when we got here (I helped him change it, and it was brand new), we’re going to be here for 5 weeks, so I’d rather not risk my kids skin in case something brews in the filter.

Any ideas where I can get test kits and chemicals to balance the spa/hot tubs?

So this might not be the right sub, but does anyone know where people in Crete buy their raki decanters and matching glasses from? Every restaurant, Airbnb, and hotel seems to have tasteful, simple sets but we’ve never been able to find them in shops or antique markets. We’ve been to Crete so many times but are yet to find a set that isn’t shaped like a c*ck and balls or a gun 😐

My girlfriend and I are running out of suncream, and I've been trying to find some of the Malibu branded stuff in and around Chania. She's allergic to basically every other brand we tried, and gets severe rashes/itching. With clear skies forecast for the rest of our stay, it's going to be tough to keep her from roasting once we run out. Does anyone know which retailers are likely to stock the Malibu branded suncream?
