News/Ειδήσεις Abandoned kitten - what do?

Hey folks, been staying at a villa on outskirts of Rethymno where we found a starving single kitten. Can’t be more than 2 months old.

Over the week we fed it and it became healthy again; it started to play with us etc. I’m leaving tomorrow and I’m worried how this kitten will survive, it’s too small/young to jump out of the villa garden and move around the country side. And I don’t think it can hunt either. I’m scared it will starve (like how we found it).

I contacted animal shelters but the general info is that they can’t take it in because it is not injured. And im unable to take it back to the uk myself as I would have to wait 21 days for vet shots and then drive it back myself to the uk (I can’t drive).

What should I do? Is there a place, or anyone, I can take this baby to? Should I maybe move the kitten and drop it off somewhere else outside the villa?

News/Ειδήσεις Confusion about tourist tax

Hi everyone, I'm currently on holiday in Crete and staying at a small 2-star family-run hotel in Kissamos, which I booked via Booking.com.

According to my Booking.com reservation, all taxes were included in the price I paid. The reservation even specifies that the tourist tax is 0.5% of the total room cost, and this was already calculated in the final amount.

However, this morning I noticed a sign at the reception desk stating that there’s a tourist tax of 5€ per room per night, which must be paid in cash only.

This surprised me, so I did a quick online search and found that as of 2025, Greece has apparently increased the tourist tax according to hotel star ratings:

1–2 stars: 2€ per room per night

3 stars: 5€

4 stars: 10€

5 stars: 15€

Unfortunately, I couldn't find an official source confirming this, and I’m a bit suspicious that:

  1. The hotel is asking for 5€ per night for a 2-star accommodation.

  2. They’re requesting it in cash only, which seems unusual.

We’re checking out tomorrow and I’d like to be prepared in case they try to charge us more than they’re entitled to. Has anyone else experienced this in Crete recently? Do you know what the actual tourist tax for 2-star hotels in 2025 is and whether it’s normal/legal for them to ask for it in cash only?

Thanks so much for your help!

UPDATE: in the end, the lady at the counter did not charge us that tax at all. I guess that is meant for other kinds of reservation.

I saw articles that said it wasn't that bad but enough to shake things around. Is it safe to travel in June? Which areas would be safest if anything were to happen?

Hey guys,

We’ll be visiting Heraklion and Chania in September, and we’ll need a car.

We’re looking for a budget-friendly option, preferably with pick-up and drop-off at the airport.

Do you have any reliable agencies or recommendations?

Hello! Is anybody going tomorrow (sept. 9) to Elafonisi or coming home today later?

I left my bag (a nylon bag) at one of the shops, i had adidas slippers, my bikini, my mother’s bikini and a pink towel in it. If anybody can ask and maybe bring it back to Chania i would be really grateful. I don’t really know the exact location of the shop, our driver stopped there but i can attach some pictures of it. It was kind of under the parking lot on the left side of the road if you watch it like this. Also i attached a pic from tiktok i think it was that market, its kinda modern it also had a rest room and cafe everything.

If anybody can go there and ask for it and maybe bring it back i would be more Than grateful 😭 thanks a lot

News/Ειδήσεις RC.gr car rental bad experience.

DO NOT rent from this company. They are a crafty company to take money from you any way they can. I signed up for a car rental for April - May 2026. 27 days in all. Their policy stated a 75% refund if canceled at least 8 days before rental. I confirmed our rental car on August 12, 2025 and put a deposit of 114.00 euros at that time. Due to our circumstances I had to cancel the car rental on August 20 2025. RC.gr refused to pay the 75% refund on the deposit I paid for a rental for April 2026. Btw, their insurance coverage was higher in cost than the actual car rental amount and they still required a deposit hold at the time of rental even with a full insurance package. Good luck getting that money back...I'm sure they'll find something to keep that... In all, I find it pretty sad that they wouldn't honor a refund. Especially for a rental this far out. Shame on them !

Hello, I'm traveling alone to Crete (Greece) from August 16-23.

I have accommodation in the Hersonissos area and a vehicle to get around. I'm looking for people with whom to do activities so that it's cheaper, in addition to being able to enjoy the experience and adventures that I have planned to do. I am open to meeting new people and enjoying the island in group activities. I'm traveling from Spain, if you have any questions contact me and I'll pass Instagram or phone number. LIVE THE ADVENTURE!

News/Ειδήσεις Looking for someone I saw on the Seajet ferry to Santorini on July 19th

Hi everyone, I know this is a long shot, but I’m trying to find a girl I saw on the Seajet ferry to Santorini on July 19th. She was wearing blue shorts and a pink t-shirt. We didn’t talk, but I really wished I had asked for her Instagram to get to know her. If you recognize yourself — or if someone reading this happens to know her — feel free to message me! Just a friendly message, nothing weird.

Thanks in advance!

News/Ειδήσεις Heraklion water supply?

I am currently staying in Heraklion with my boyfriend for a few days. Right before we arrived we were told by the owner (we booked on AirBnB) that there is no water due to shortages in Heraklion right now, and that its due to be back tomorrow. I can find absolutely nothing about this on google and I cannot understand the deyah website as it is entirely in Greek and that is what I am being told to check. Does anyone know anything about this or when the water will be back on? We are backpacking so needed a shower after arriving, since we are very sweaty. The water is not running in our apartment at all.
