Austin Hatfield equipment fail

Post image

Terrible luck for Hatfield as his GHD breaks in WFP Men's Pro3 event.

Anyone know what'll happen to his score?

Could hear the production team in the background saying 'stay away from Austin Hatfield'...

He dropped his wallball over the top of his GHD. Then when we got back on, after a few reps (you could see the stem moving a lot) then just broke away. Austin landed on the cross beam right on his ass.

Yeah looked like he was saying he hurt his leg

Do you have the clip, link, or timestamp? It happens. Sure they’ll figure out way to post a score.

I mean using a GHD like that kind of has it coming.

Much respect for how chill he was about it.

Apparently Hatfield has been awarded a time of 6:53, which is good for 16th.

I wonder how this time was calculated?

They averaged the GHD times from the other athletes

Thanks. That's one way to do it, I guess...

As with most things WFP, it's just entirely made up

Does anyone else realize this is because of how athletes now do the machine incorrectly? Because everyone now sits on the FORWARD half of the pad, they slide INTO the foot plate section. They should be on the BACK half of the pads, so that gravity pulls them AWAY.

That’s why when it broke, he slide down the front. If your GHD breaks, you should absolutely fall off the back.

His GHD didn't break because of this.

Hip positioning is its own drama piece but its completely irrelevant to how the machine broke

Yeah, the machine shouldn’t break regardless.

I didn’t say it did. BUT He repeatedly slid down and slammed INTO the foot plate section with a weighted ball. You don’t think that matters since the machine is literally not supposed to see force in that direction?

Literally the first sentence in your comment is blaming him falling due to "how athletes do their GHD'S"

-7

u/ProChoiceAtheist15 5d ago

Literally you have to read ALL THE WORDS to get the point. My last sentence said “that’s why when it broke, he slid down….”

The point is explaining why he fell THE WAY HE DID, not explaining WHY HE FELL

I DID NOT SAY “the reason it broke is bc he does them wrong.” One sentence out of multiples DOES NOT make the point. Goddammit I hate people who can’t read

"Does anyone else realize this is because of how athletes now do the machine incorrectly?"

You just can't write. Cope Harder

First thing I realized

I noticed in the heat before this that the GHD in that lane looked very loose. Maybe he contributed but it was fucked already.

Only someone with proper knowledge of mechanics would notice this. Thank you.

WFP Tour Stop 2 - sorry I keep forgetting no-one knows about WFP

Using acronyms doesn't help.

WTF

The WFP post game studio covers this well. Worth a watch otherwise too. Annie, Katrin, Dereck Forrester and Seth Page have been having good talks and analysis there after the events. Another thing that WFP has been nailing, really impressed with the athlete intelligence and ability to analyze from Annie and Katrin.

Will, is that you?

Hahaha. Just an objective spectator without a negative wfp hang up.

Annie said she didn't know who Hatfield was at WFP1.

What happened? His GHD break?

-2

u/traderjames7 5d ago

Yeah it was terrible

Luck? That is really bad from the organisers. Very lucky not to be a serious injury.

That piece of equipment should not break like that unless someone put it together all wrong.

I saw a interview from the Games (Sevan?) where Katie Henninger saying she personally rowed 1000 m on each of the rowers over 2 days to make sure they were calibrated the same and built properly. I think it was 50+ rowers?

Impressive, doesn’t look like WFP have that kind of QC yet.

WFP Tour Stop 2 - Day 2 - Men's Event Pro 3

How was Gui credited with hitting 430 when he failed 2 reps and finished with 420?

Even the commentators thought Austin should've been the winner with his 422 lift.

7

u/TulioCM 5d ago

Gui did 430 instead of 420. When he was trying 430 it was actually 440. He and the judge miss counted the plates. He explained in his IG stories

3

u/traderjames7 5d ago

Thanks - event was hard to follow with judges not updating the weight numbers correctly and then the director missed big lifts. Honestly ruined it.

I think Hatfield thought he had won it, too.

On his last good lift, Guy lifted the bar (45)+red(110)+2xblue(2x90)+yellow(70)+white(20)+green(5).
45+110+180+70+20+5=430.

I didn’t understand this either. Maybe he hit 430 but the broadcast didnt show it?

This WFP stream is an utter shit show. They posted the event times with AM/PM all mixed up, so you had to do the math from PST and try to figure out what time the event started. It’s totally unclear. Lost me at that point. I’m not going to sit through Teams or “Challenger” which I don’t understand.

But at least they have nice graphics
