I’ve done a little research to reassure y’all. As far as I can tell “recall” (the mentioned spyware) is a part of “Copilot +”. Which is only available on specific PCs. And if Microsoft is being honest, even when on those computers, screenshots are saved locally; They’re never sent to the cloud or to Microsoft. You can prevent it from taking pictures of certain apps, and you can also directly disable the feature if you want.
Yeah, I am aware of that. But have you forgotten how predatory Microsoft is at forcing Windows 10 users to update to Windows 11? It may be optional now, just like the update to Windows 11 was, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start bricking systems so that users will be forced to accept this update.
Sooner or later, this update will also roll out to all PCs running Windows, even those without the ARM chips, because Microsoft still has to monopolize people with custom PCs. Not to mention that this will lead to more tax on your CPU, slowering your system.
The following are direct quotes from the CEO from the WSJ interview:
• "I fully expect that CoPilot to be everywhere" [Timestamp = 7:22]
• "It is going to be everywhere. It is going to be ambient"
[Timestamp = 7:35]
Also, I would not trust their word on it being locally saved. Remember, billionaires don't become billionaires by being ethical.
They're in a tough place with the push to upgrade. Consumers held them responsible for XP problems long after they patched them because critical updates were essentially optional. The average user can't be trusted
