Early Enterprise was really rough. I dont really fault anybody who dropped it based on the first seasons. But It followed the trend of 'growing a beard' that other series did, where after a bit the writers found what they really wanted to do with the show and it got a lot better. In the case of TNG and DS9, it roughly coincided with Riker and Sisko growing a beard.
Enterprise only Really started to find its stride the last season or so, unfortunately
Yeah I did hear good things about what Manny Coto did with it but by then it was rather too late.
Part of my issue was that it looked like the show was simply not intended for existing Star Trek fans but was instead a pivot away from it to some kind of new thing to hopefully bring in newer fans.
And while that's even a good thing, you don't want the show to stagnate, the direction they chose to move towards wasn't for me. I don't envy the challenge faced by the showrunners but damn they missed the mark starting off.
