I am heavily against Trump returning to power, but attempted assassination is pushing it way beyond the line.

Why? If Trump and his companions are such a threat to the foundation of the Republic, as most of his opponents make him out to be. Then why would assassination be beyond the line? The US assassinates a lot of people every year who are much smaller threats and republicans and centrist democrats have no opposition to that policy. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
