I got an engineering degree which allowed me to move from some shitass dead town to one of the most expensive zip codes in the country (sorta by accident) and now I own a very average and not very luxury house here. Yes I have a very expensive mortgage and no I don't live in luxury. But I improved my personal circumstances in general. If I have kids, they will go to good schools they can walk to and can walk or bike to a bunch of other stuff rather than spending a bunch of their young lives in the back seat of a car.

Your dreams are probably stupid. Having a "shitty" engineering degree, if you actually study, will set you up for a decent job and comfortable life.
TL;DR: grow up.
