I hate it when people give things acronyms like everyones gonna know what theyre on about

u/ShawshankException Feb 20 '25

It's because it's always just referred to as "WIC". It's a welfare program.

u/Miximinion jojosexual Feb 20 '25

Always referred to? Where? In the US? Because I have never heard about it

-94

u/ShawshankException Feb 20 '25

That's great. Do you also get mad when people call it the NFL?

34

u/Miximinion jojosexual Feb 20 '25

I don't care that you call it that way, but don't say "Oh they use the acronym because it's always used like that" when you know damn way you use it like that, not everyone

Everyone I've ever heard say it just says WIC because chances are if you're talking about it you're in the bracket of people that can and do utilize it, thus they're familiar with it. It's pretty common. Like calling Food Stamps EBT.

Also saying "I buy my groceries with Women,Infant and Children." Can leave bad connotations

How many bananas can I get for 1 infant?

8

u/Garbanz0Beans Feb 20 '25

It’s a banana, Michael. What could it cost? 10 infants?

Excellent execution.

Wait mb you're not the one I was arguing with. Still, read the rest of my comments on the topic, it's pretty clear there

Why are you being a pedantic asshole for no reason. It would sound crazy for people to say Women Infant and Children when referring to WIC. Everyone that uses WIC calls it WIC. If you don't call it WIC it's cause you probably never had to actually talk to someone about it. And people use words like everyone, forever, or impossible even if they don't literally mean everyone, forever or impossible. Is this your first time speaking English?

u/Miximinion jojosexual Feb 20 '25

You must be purposefully not understanding my point so you don't deserve my time, have a good one

0

u/D_Shizzle93 Feb 20 '25

I'm definitely not but maybe you could explain it better. Cause it definitely seems like your confused

Literally everyone calls it WIC. If you needed to figure out what it was you could google "WIC". Obviously people from other countries wouldn't know that but that doesn't change the fact that everyone who does calls it WIC.

This isn't some acronym some niche community is using to describe things. Even our government almost always calls it WIC.

Again, I don't care that you use it or how easy it is to find, I'm telling you the problem is that "everyone" is the US for you, you live in a bubble and you don't realize it. You can use it as much as you want, you just need to be aware that if you say it online people won't know what the fuck you're talking about. You realize you said "Obviously some people don't know what it means, but everyone uses it". You're contradicting yourself and you don't even realize

-3

u/ShawshankException Feb 20 '25

I honestly don't understand how I'm not making my point clear. Is it also bad that people call it FIFA? Or the UK? Or NASA? People outside the US wouldn't know what it was even if we called it "Women, Infant, and Children". The problem isn't the use of an acronym.

15

u/Miximinion jojosexual Feb 20 '25

You are absolutely right, the problem isn't the use of an acronym, neither is it what I've been saying. You're making yourself plenty clear, but you're the one not understanding my point. The problem is that you say "everyone uses it" when only the US do. The problem is that you think the US is everyone. And you're being condescending towards others because they're not "everyone", so go put a stick up your ass and travel some more

-6

u/ShawshankException Feb 20 '25

I didn't think I'd need to preface that "everyone" meant "everyone who knows about the program" but I forgot how insecure and touchy non-americans are on this website

Have the day you deserve 👍

3

u/SaltAsAService Feb 20 '25

Nah, we just don't automatically know what your shitty welfare programs are called, but you bumble around saying it like everyone on the planet has an idea. You could have just said "welfare" and people would have got the concept. It's what us non Americans have to say so you lot know what the heck we're talking about

Come over to MJ SK and say that to my have bud.

Just because half of reddit is US based that doesn't mean the other half doesn't also want to know whats going on

7

u/not-a-gun-smuggler69 Feb 20 '25

The usa is only 4 percent of the global population, you are a niche community, also your government is about as competent as a toddler with a glock

2

u/RMB39 Feb 20 '25

How much of Reddit is US based?

0

u/Epideme1890 Feb 20 '25

I need that on a tshirt

8

u/A_Crawling_Bat Feb 20 '25

I have not clue what the NFL (or WIC) is. If I was talking about CAF you would most likely not know what it is, but it's how people call it so it's not an issue

-1

u/tendaga Feb 20 '25

Ok so what's the CAF?

10

u/A_Crawling_Bat Feb 20 '25

It's always just reffered as "CAF", it's the welfare agency here.

(Caisse d'Assurance Française)

1

u/Cracleur Feb 20 '25

If I may, it's "Caisse d’allocations familiales"

1

u/tendaga Feb 20 '25

Good to know.

u/Kermit_Purple_II Feb 20 '25

You realise people outside the US have no idea what NFL stands for?

Worst thing is, now that I say that, I had to look it up. I thought it was Basketball, but now I see it's National Football League. It's american football. It's not a sport played in my country, and my country has two national football leagues. Your NFL makes no sense to me. It makes no sense outside the US.

It just doesn't.
