I am probably an intellectual or something Which is heavier?

u/luddiogo Mar 05 '25
1Kg of feathers is heavier because it is harder to carry

u/Thesleepingjay Mar 05 '25
Unironically. 1 kg of steel would fit comfortably in one hand, but you would need at least two large bags of feathers to get 1 kg worth. Like how much does a down pillow weigh?
25
u/Outcast_Outlaw Mar 05 '25
How large are these bags? Its like 15,000 feathers...
16
u/Thesleepingjay Mar 05 '25
Shit, you right. From my napkin math, you'd need from 4 to 10 duffle bags to carry 1 kg of feathers.

Here's what the meme is referencing : https://youtu.be/-fC2oke5MFg
For the cowards that fear a rickroll : Limmys Show : Whats heavier a kilogram of steel or a kilogram of feather

Honestly thought a kilo of feathers would be more.

u/ThunderBuns935 Mar 05 '25
I mean... It's satire, so no he didn't honestly think that. Brian is a Scottish comedian.

u/BentonX Mar 05 '25
oh haha no I meant me. I thought that a kilo of feathers would be more as in like quantity. Like it would be a much bigger bag. So I was surprised that the bag was so "small"

1 kg of feathers because you have to live with weight of what you did to those poor birds

u/Jumper_21 Mar 05 '25
Actually it has to be the other way around, because steel heavier than feathers

u/The_ApplePie Mar 05 '25
But,steel is heavier than feather

I hope to God this is a joke because both say 1KG so both weigh 1KG
38
u/rmnobre Mar 05 '25
There is a sketch on YouTube of a very confused person on why a kg of steel weighs the same as a kg of feathers. It was a mention to that video

Ok think of it this way bob has 10 apples that cost 20$ and he also has 20 oranges that cost 20$ so both cost 20$ even tho there is more oranges

this meme format is cursed to forever be in reverse but I can't even tell at this point 😂
is this a reference to the joke about "heavy" being the toll you take from aquiring 1kg of feathers (killing birds)?
or just the recent shitposts all over the internet about steel and feathers and limmys joke?

The superficial answer is that they're the same.
But the 1kg refers to mass. And the question is which is heavier. Heavy is a reference to weight which includes gravity.
Fun fact about gravity. The distance between the masses matters. Which includes the distribution of each mass.
I would assert that it's not specified how the objects are arranged. And that in most configurations that would come to mind. It's more difficult to get the center of mass for the feathers as close to the Earth than it is to get the center of mass for the steel.
Making the steel very slightly heavier in most cases.

How about 1 kg of antimatter? 1 kg of electrons. 1kg of dark matter? 1kg of gravitons.

The 1kg of steel as most of the 1kg of feathers will tend to flow away at the slightest breeze.

The feathers because the surface area is bigger so more air of the atmosphere can press on it.

The steel is heavier because higher density means lower buoyant force

u/Lama_cyka_blyat Mar 05 '25
The picture even makes sense because the volume of 1kg feathers is way bigger than steel

This is an insane throwback for me. This was serious meme content back in the day

u/bumtras Mar 06 '25
Weight =/= mass
Since both have 1kg of mass and feathers have way lower density than steel, then the feathers would weigh less due to buoyancy.

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Mar 06 '25
One fist of feathers, the other of steel
If the right one don't get you, then the left one will

One kilograms of feathers are heavier, because you also have to carry the weight of what you did to those poor birds
1
u/Knodsil INFECTED Mar 05 '25
Feathers.
Steel is just steel.
With the feathers you also have to carry the guilt of what you did to all those poor birds.

This wasn't a big revelation years ago when I heard it, it isn't now, but please, keep pretending that everything that you learn is new.

Is 1 kg in both situations. 1 kg, it doesn’t matter with what thing. The only difference is that you’d need more feathers than steel to reach 1 kg.

-2
u/AxolotlDamage Mar 05 '25
Feathers must include a recepticle with which to carry them and thus would increase the total weight
-3
u/themostdank Mar 05 '25
A kilogram is a measurement of weight. They would both weigh the same if it was 1 kilogram of feathers versus 1 kilogram of steel
-4
-5
u/NoLifeAlucard Mar 05 '25
Their weight is 1kg as in measurement, that's why they're both the same. In conclusion, none is heavier than the other
