Depends on where you measure. Feathers have lower density that iron. Buoyancy can create an extra force it depends on the difference of the density of a fluid and a object inside of it. So if you measure a kg mass of feathers and a kg mass of iron inside any fluid like the atmosphere both will weigh a bit less than a kg and the feathers will weigh a bit less than the iron

Buv dey air boft a kelogrrm

u/luddiogo Mar 05 '25

1Kg of feathers is heavier because it is harder to carry

257

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

Dem weight of sins

84

u/Thesleepingjay Mar 05 '25

Unironically. 1 kg of steel would fit comfortably in one hand, but you would need at least two large bags of feathers to get 1 kg worth. Like how much does a down pillow weigh?

25

u/Outcast_Outlaw Mar 05 '25

How large are these bags? Its like 15,000 feathers...

16

u/Thesleepingjay Mar 05 '25

Shit, you right. From my napkin math, you'd need from 4 to 10 duffle bags to carry 1 kg of feathers.

2

u/JotaroTheOceanMan Mar 06 '25

I was gonna say shrinkwrap them but that would add weight.

1

u/Wedos98 Mar 06 '25

But what if is just an extremely long tube?

13

u/kumikanki Mar 05 '25

It is not heavier, it is just harder to carry.

13

u/mateoelgato715 Mar 05 '25

Downvote for logic

With that logic a puddle water weights more than 100 pound dumb bell

Here's what the meme is referencing : https://youtu.be/-fC2oke5MFg

For the cowards that fear a rickroll : Limmys Show : Whats heavier a kilogram of steel or a kilogram of feather

u/MAR5H95 Mar 05 '25

Holy shit thats funny asf 🤣

u/Jewxican213 Mar 05 '25

Needed the rewatch, thanks for sharing the link for the convenience!

u/BentonX Mar 05 '25

Honestly thought a kilo of feathers would be more.

11

u/ThunderBuns935 Mar 05 '25

I mean... It's satire, so no he didn't honestly think that. Brian is a Scottish comedian.

9

u/BentonX Mar 05 '25

oh haha no I meant me. I thought that a kilo of feathers would be more as in like quantity. Like it would be a much bigger bag. So I was surprised that the bag was so "small"

80

u/_bluebird7_ Mar 05 '25

That Scottish accent is the heaviest

1 kg of feathers because you have to live with weight of what you did to those poor birds

10

u/Lethalbroccoli Mar 05 '25

But steel is heavier than feathers?

26

u/Jumper_21 Mar 05 '25

Actually it has to be the other way around, because steel heavier than feathers

5

u/Peridact Mar 06 '25

but they're booth a kilogramme....

19

u/Optimal-Ad2112 Mar 05 '25

Both weigh the same damn it

77

u/The_ApplePie Mar 05 '25

But,steel is heavier than feather

13

u/Jadima Mar 05 '25

I can hear this sentence

-16

u/Optimal-Ad2112 Mar 05 '25

I hope to God this is a joke because both say 1KG so both weigh 1KG

38

u/rmnobre Mar 05 '25

There is a sketch on YouTube of a very confused person on why a kg of steel weighs the same as a kg of feathers. It was a mention to that video

19

u/Memanders Mar 05 '25

His name is Limmy

6

u/rmnobre Mar 05 '25

Thank you !

It's a joke good sir

Sure but steel is heavier than feathers

I don't get it

7

u/PlumpPotate Mar 05 '25

Don't worry bout it.

-13

u/Optimal-Ad2112 Mar 05 '25

Ok think of it this way bob has 10 apples that cost 20$ and he also has 20 oranges that cost 20$ so both cost 20$ even tho there is more oranges

24

u/GayPudding Mar 05 '25

But steel is heavier than feathers

4

u/peanut_butter13jam Mar 05 '25

First, what a crappy example, second, they are trolling.

-9

Ok Sherlock give me a better example eyy Sherlock I swear this subreddit is full off

Oh actually people just like you

13

u/Dixx16 Mar 05 '25

Yes, but see the size

2

u/ThaBomb94 Mar 05 '25

this meme format is cursed to forever be in reverse but I can't even tell at this point 😂

is this a reference to the joke about "heavy" being the toll you take from aquiring 1kg of feathers (killing birds)?

or just the recent shitposts all over the internet about steel and feathers and limmys joke?

2

u/moh_shit big pp gang Mar 05 '25

Vat's hayviar a kelagraym ov steyl or a kelagraym ov faythars?

2

u/Tentacle_poxsicle Mar 05 '25

The answer is, Steel is heavier than feathers ..

2

u/Weak-Possession-7258 Mar 05 '25

I love the limmy shows

2

u/MilitantPacifist13 ☣️ Mar 05 '25

The real question is: Which is denser?

2

u/DirkSwizzler Mar 06 '25

The superficial answer is that they're the same.

But the 1kg refers to mass. And the question is which is heavier. Heavy is a reference to weight which includes gravity.

Fun fact about gravity. The distance between the masses matters. Which includes the distribution of each mass.

I would assert that it's not specified how the objects are arranged. And that in most configurations that would come to mind. It's more difficult to get the center of mass for the feathers as close to the Earth than it is to get the center of mass for the steel.

Making the steel very slightly heavier in most cases.

2

u/Hayten_ Mar 05 '25

If the steel is heaver then which one do you me to throw at your head?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

[deleted]

1

u/Hayten_ Mar 05 '25

I am just being dense

2

u/FrostyEnvironment902 Mar 05 '25

The size difference works to represent the amount of feathers

1

u/Zandonus Don't you want to grow up to be just like me? Mar 05 '25

How about 1 kg of antimatter? 1 kg of electrons. 1kg of dark matter? 1kg of gravitons.

2

u/SusalulmumaO12 WTF Mar 05 '25

You forgot the accidental "Chemical X".

1

u/According_Rock_7149 Mar 05 '25

The 1kg of steel as most of the 1kg of feathers will tend to flow away at the slightest breeze.

1

u/Rouscelia Mar 05 '25

But theyra both a kirloughgrdam

1

u/iSeize Mar 05 '25

All that air between the feathers gotta weigh something

1

u/nage_ Mar 05 '25

if your holding it; both

if you dropped it; the steel

1

u/yellowlotusx Mar 05 '25

The feathers because the surface area is bigger so more air of the atmosphere can press on it.

1

u/UdatManav Mar 05 '25

I was just thinking about this video yesterday!

1

u/danfay222 rm -rf / Mar 05 '25

The steel is heavier because higher density means lower buoyant force

1

u/TheGalaxx Mar 05 '25

1kg of SINS BRO THIS IS HEAVIER

1

u/TeddytheSynth Mar 05 '25

Obviously the steel

1

u/Lama_cyka_blyat Mar 05 '25

The picture even makes sense because the volume of 1kg feathers is way bigger than steel

1

u/Blales I am fucking hilarious Mar 06 '25

This is an insane throwback for me. This was serious meme content back in the day

1

u/minu_chan Mar 06 '25

but they're both a kilogram...

1

u/bumtras Mar 06 '25

Weight =/= mass

Since both have 1kg of mass and feathers have way lower density than steel, then the feathers would weigh less due to buoyancy.

1

u/Aggravating_Load_411 Mar 06 '25

One fist of feathers, the other of steel

If the right one don't get you, then the left one will

1

u/claycam6 Mar 07 '25

I can hear this. Feeyethers. Styeel.

1

u/Programmer__69 Mar 09 '25

One kilograms of feathers are heavier, because you also have to carry the weight of what you did to those poor birds

1

u/Knodsil INFECTED Mar 05 '25

Feathers.

Steel is just steel.

With the feathers you also have to carry the guilt of what you did to all those poor birds.

0

u/Steve_the_Growler Mar 05 '25

This wasn't a big revelation years ago when I heard it, it isn't now, but please, keep pretending that everything that you learn is new.

-10

Wtf even is a KG?

10

Measured in a vacuum or in an atmosphere?

9

u/rmnobre Mar 05 '25

Doesn't matter because steel is heavier than feathers

0

u/Echidna-Suspicious Mar 05 '25

1kg of non compressed air

0

u/AnimeLover0013 Mar 06 '25

Is 1 kg in both situations. 1 kg, it doesn’t matter with what thing. The only difference is that you’d need more feathers than steel to reach 1 kg.

-1

u/boralCEO Mar 05 '25

Yo mamma.

-2

u/AxolotlDamage Mar 05 '25

Feathers must include a recepticle with which to carry them and thus would increase the total weight

-3

u/themostdank Mar 05 '25

A kilogram is a measurement of weight. They would both weigh the same if it was 1 kilogram of feathers versus 1 kilogram of steel

-4

u/Kragckbot Mar 05 '25

Yo momma's ass.

-5

u/NoLifeAlucard Mar 05 '25

Their weight is 1kg as in measurement, that's why they're both the same. In conclusion, none is heavier than the other
