Kinda insane when you think about it: one of the strongest powers in the world in terms of military and economic power regularly practices religiously motivated infant genital mutilation.

But on the other hand very much in character for the USA...

Is it religious? I knew that muslims do it as a ritual but didn't know christians also had that

Muslims and Jews do but Christians largely don't. It's a cultural thing in the USA that they (for some reason) adopted.

Unless they're truly too stupid to wash their dicks, it's probably some prudish motivation.

A bunch of Christian wackos wanted to prevent people from jacking off. Didn’t work, but it just became normal. Kellogg also made cornflakes for the same reason, IIRC

Religious reasons go for it because there's some benefits and some drawbacks, but purely cosmetic reasons is nuts
