As a Cardinals fan who is mindful of our situation, we have not been saying this in a long time. Odds are we won’t be saying this for some time.

u/SojuSeed 15d ago
And, while I’m not a baseball fan, I am from STL. They’ve won 11 World Series and have the most national league championships, and second overall in league history. So it’s not like they’re perennial losers.
The Blues, on the other hand…
25
u/Glass_Intention5462 15d ago
Exactly. From 2000 to 2015 we were very competitive. We’ve just been meh since. I would have put a different MLB team on there than us.

As a reds fan, I was confused seeing them on this list. I even live in Cardinals territory and don't hear this. Somehow y'all conjur up black magic and have good seasons anyway, but I never hear the "this is purely year" comments. If anything, this past year, I heard more of "fuck this year is gonna suck". They dont belong on this list

u/Dead_HumanCollection 15d ago
Mariners, Rays, Padres, and Brewers have never won a world series despite all fielding play off contending teams in recent years. They are all much better picks than the Cardinals.
I feel like OP doesn't know anything about baseball and was just trying to include an MLB team and/or is too young to remember them winning the series in 2011.
I didn't forget about the Rockies, they know their place.
4
u/HurricanePK 15d ago
Yeah the Yankees belong in this meme more since they haven’t won the WS since Obama’s first year in office (which is also the only WS they’ve won since the luxury tax was implemented). Every year since then, they yell about how they’re gonna be another dynasty and when they inevitably lose it’s “27 rings!”

17
u/trollsenpai 15d ago
Depends on the esports. G2 lol and val win quite regularly, while liquid hasn't won in years. Instead of G2 or Liquid I would out FNATIC in there. They have not won in lol for years, in CS they went from Goat contenders to who? And in Val always fail when it matters the most (the expectation of our val team is usually higher). Dude it sucks go be an FNC fan...

Liquid being the most succesful organisation of all time makes this even more strange, meanwhile G2 has only won a couple of really important tournaments, while fielding some of the most iconic rosters as well.
5
u/Poputt_VIII 15d ago
Liquid being most successful org of all time is certainly a take. It all depends on what esport cause there's a few where liquid are pretty trash
3
u/One_Happy_Camel 15d ago
Oh definitely, they're not perfect. I'm talking Esports as a whole, counting all the success they had in every game over the years.
Let's not forget that even if we remove The International 2017 win, Liquid is still the org with the most earnings in history. And it's not even that close, with Spirit and OG being the runner ups, only because of their back-to-back TI wins. Besides them, it's Evil Geniuses who only have half of Liquid's earnings. That's definitely something.
Whether its CS, SC2, LoL (NA), DOTA, Smash... Hell, even their Fortnite players made some good results over the years. Clash Royale, Rainbow 6, PUBG. They even won a World Championship in Hearthstone before it died.
Even games where they didn't have a significant impact like Rocket League they still managed to have a team that was considered top 5 in the world.
8
u/Ofiotaurus ☣️ 15d ago
I debated which one I wanted but I thought Liquid was more fitting since a lot of these are other very successfull or famous brands/orgs.
10
u/One_Happy_Camel 15d ago
TLDR: Liquid's success is too large and recent. Meanwhile Fnatic's is much older for a legendary organisation.
Oh the indeed all are famous but I think that an organisation like Fnatic or even Evil Geniuses would've been more fitting.
Let's take Hockey as a comparison. Montreal Canadiens are the most succesful franchise in the sport, some might argue in all sports ever, even though they haven't won a cup in more than 30 years. However, since their success is not that old nobody in their right mind can put them over the Leafs for a "Next year's the one", since the Leafs are an absolute joke these days and havent won in almost 60 years.
In Esports, Liquid is the equivalent of the Canadiens. They're not as dominant as they used to be across all games (2017-2019 was fabulous), but they can still make an impact in some games and some teams are looking at a bright future. Historically, their DOTA team, Hungrybox in Smash Melee, their early PUBG roster, CS in 2019, even their LoL team in NA (even if the region is pretty much a joke), etc etc.
Fnatic on the other hand, haven't known absolute domination for 10 to 15 years now. Their CS team has been a joke for a while, their adventure in Rocket League failed spectacularly, even their LoL teams haven't been as great as they were in the 2010s in a while now. Legendary and respected org, but winless for a WHILE in Esports. However, I know some people who will put them in the GOAT argument.
6
u/JustMirth 15d ago
Not saying you are wrong, but you should look at Fnatic’s Valorant team, they are consistently one of if not the best EMEA teams, and won some Masters events.
3
u/One_Happy_Camel 15d ago
Oh yeah completely, but as of right now, this roster is the only one worthy of Fnatic's prestige and recognition. They've sadly been on a downward spirale since 2015 across all of Esports, even if there are still impressive jewels out there.

The Cards aren't in one of their winning eras at the moment, but they're 2nd in total WS wins, 4th in WS appearances, 3rd in NL Pennants, and 2nd in NL post season appearances. Historically a top team, rabid fan base, and drawing from a significantly smaller pool of cash flow than many if the other tops teams. And the fans right now know we suck, we just love baseball every year. Try the Yankees

Why is Ferrari in this? Like its THE CAR, especially with classic models... unless its like a racing thing, then has Ferrari really been out of it since the events of the Ford vs Ferrari movie? Cause if so that is sad cause Fords best driver died and never won... like great movie, but i would always go Ferrari over Ford now.

As a Toronto native who doesn’t follow hockey, it’s always the same fkn story with the leafs. I don’t even feel bad for the fans at this point. They gotta stop supporting that pile of trash. Also, their “dynasty” is kind of a joke and a lie. As soon as the league expanded they stopped winning cups, it’s been almost 60 years. Entitled for no reason. Granted, if they actually do smth in the playoffs I’m jumping on the bandwagon.
