You know people used to study for these things and only those who knew would speak live. Now with internet everybody has their own expertise on the same matter.

Economics will still economic no matter your personal opinion

Do you have any credible study of gender paygap where the reason of pay gap is the gender of the person? I have 0 belief anyone would hire man for jobs where woman would work for 85% of the pay

“corporations are corrupt and screw their workers over at every opportunity, but despite the fact that they can get away with paying women 85% of what they can men they choose to have predominantly male workforces. The sexist bastards!”

Fuck, it makes me chuckle every time

???

what does this have to do with the pay gap? Less pay doesn't always come in at the hiring process, it materializes later as women are passed up on promotions. Besides, most of the pay gap is due to women being kept in lower-paying occupations.

I’m mocking how the people who think these things clearly don’t think because they can’t see the giant gaping holes in their reasoning when their logic is carried through to its conclusion.

But you can do that with anything if you pretend to misunderstand it. "Oh the air is full of oxygen? Why isn't everything on fire all the time?" The pay gap is a well-documented phenomenon, you can't just say it's not true because it doesn't line up with what you think.

Acshually, “air” is only 21% oxygen, which in my opinion isn’t full. Sorry, had to channel my inner Oscar

It is well documented as false or self inflicted.

But it isn't well-documented as either of those things? If it was false, we wouldn't have the evidence. And if it was self-inflicted, it would still be a problem that we need to solve.

Actually, it’s pretty well documented through simple statistics. It takes a lot more hoop jumping to make the pay gap appear sexist than it does to show this.

Most of it is caused by pregnancy leave and overall choosing to work less hours. If you take those factors out and compare men and women on an hourly basis, the pay gap all but disappears with the only remaining percentage showing that men are slightly more aggressive about asking for that raise.

Yes and no. You're leaving out the fact incredibly risky, horrible jobs no one wants are dominated by men and because they're undesirable and endanger life have perks such as higher pay to it incentivize applicants.

Then, on top of that women-dominated fields are not always high paying careers or actual careers in the first place. Moms work two minimum wage jobs and make up a considerable amount of this pay gap to a lawyer or doctor. The women who are doctors and lawyers can't make the real data 'even out'.

What the other guy who got downvoted a bunch said is true as well. Census data, labor stats, women's and men's choices and actual shitty and/or sexist practices by employers who want to pay ANY person less regardless of race and gender are NOT mutually exclusive. They all add together. smfh.

The things that you guys are arguing about are not mutually exclusive. It's really irritating to see you being down voted for having a reasonable take. There are people who believe it is "only" the patriarchy when there are shitload of factors. It doesn't come off that you are a keyboard warrior or ignoring anything else, in fact I think people down voting you are not willing to hear a possibility that real problems do exist smh and the wage gap isn't a myth.

The Wage Gap is certainly overblown by some but that doesn't make it a fantasy for all women in the workforce. This is why a lot of people (ironically especially online!) advocate for employees to all discuss their pay and have healthy and open communication. Because you never know what your shitty employer is going to do. Yet they also dismiss the real issues that arise in this country.

the pay gap is definitely real and well documented as real, all u have to do is look at census data or federal bureau of labor statistics data and u will see the 15% mean/median pay gap

8

u/floggedlog 3d ago

If you look just a little deeper, you’ll see that 15% comes down to personal choices and not some mythical bad guy boss that pays women less

-5

u/InfinityBowman 3d ago

or societal and cultural reasons, not personal choices, there is no big bad boss but there is a culture around men and women and the workplace that creates this

2

u/floggedlog 3d ago

There’s also an entire class of jobs that women just won’t touch that contributes to it as well all the dirty hard jobs

But at the end of the day, there are laws that prevent discrimination, and anyone who can perform the work can get the pay.

0

u/InfinityBowman 2d ago

yeah but u can also sort by occupation and u get the same results of 15% gap

0

u/InfinityBowman 2d ago

so ur just ignoring the cultural gaps that exist, obviously there is no huge thing that means employers can just pay less but overall due to cultural and societal factors women end up on average making 15% less than male counterparts

0

u/floggedlog 2d ago

No, I’m not you’re ignoring what I’m saying and pretending it is cultural factors it’s not

it’s personal decisions men go for more dangerous jobs that have a naturally higher pay women do not

men go for longer hours and overtime. Women do not

men do not take paternity leave women do.

Those are the factors and none of them are the boss deciding to pay a woman less because there are laws against that and when you actually go and compare a man and a woman doing the same job as each other, they make the same pay EXCEPT For entertainment the pay in entertainment is always based on what kind of crowd you bring

By their own choice
