Social media was about connecting people! But very shortly, most of us today missed it. Orkut was perfect for that, but died to early facebook, which was similar vibes for a while. Orkut had NO celebrities or influencers or meme pages. Then it got a feed, ads, influencers and meme pages. Suddenly it was all over.

I mean it's always been jacked up.
I remember logging onto a chatroom when I was 11 back on my windows 98 PC, in the days where dial up was all we had.
I was targeted multiple times by sexual predators. They knew my age cause like a dipshit, I openly announced it. We didn't know back then. It was a "kids" chat...
I mean, think about it. The "kids" who used to be on shit like Myspace and geocities ARE the assholes on Facebook now. They're the core audience for that. That's what "bringing people together" does lol
