If the joke has to be explained it’s probably not even a good joke

nah sometimes the ones that need 5 different bits of niche knowledge, are the most banger joke you've ever heard.

And it feels so good when it's an extremely niche joke and you are in that niche.

Like one time a link wasn't working on a web page and when I told a fellow dev he said "Oh I see the problem the font is wrong." "What?" "Yeah it's sans-href."

I still have a good chuckle about that from time to time.

Agreed. If I don't get the joke it's usually because it's about at a topic I am unfamiliar with. I both enjoy learning about the topic and the new joke.

Last one I saw asking for getting explained is " that's it, * Pringles your Lay's *

And it was a woman ironing the lays into pringles

How do you even need that explaining? Surely everyone has seen a Pringle and a Walkers (not Lays) crisp before?

You wouldn't get it.

Really depends. Some jokes (like the jester falling on his rear) are jokes which need background context to get. If it's explained to you, you probably won't laugh at the meme anymore, but any future memes playing on the same joke will become funny.
