Hello, fellow Americans Serving the community in so many different ways.

Meh, I'm not that upset by this to be honest. If you've ever been to DC you would understand. Fuck I'd support activating the national guard once every 6 months to pick up litter. This might be the nicest DC has been since it was a literal swamp.

u/Plausibl3 13h ago
Anytime I’ve been to DC it was pretty clean and I’ve even felt safe!

The places you go to as a tourist are not the whole city, just an FYI. That's why you have people who don't live there freaking out about the crackdown, and people who actually live there constantly posting videos saying how much they love it.

There’s public service positions that do this. Not national guard. Those services are underfunded (shocker) so lots of this is done by volunteer groups (not sure about recently though)
We really shouldn’t have our taxes going to armed military garbage collectors
8
u/Brothersunset 11h ago
Fire the public service motherfuckers who do that shit then because DC is a garbage dump every other time. The national guard gets paid regardless. Even if never activated and they had to sit around at home all weekend, they would still be getting paid.
Firing the public service positions would not only save the tax dollars but having the national guard do it instead seems to work better and they're getting paid regardless.

They were deployed to DC to fight a crime problem in the first place, right? Not pick up trash. That's not why they are in DC. It's not about the trash and there is no crime problem if they're being used to pick up trash. If there's a trash problem, then Trump should just say that.
3
u/Brothersunset 10h ago
What are criminals of not human trash?
It's all just a cycle of trash removal. Is littering not a crime? /s
I'm not here to say this is what they were initially deployed for, I'm just making the observation that they're doing a great job.

u/AutisticPenguin2 2h ago
Fuck, underfunding public services to the point where they can't do the job properly is a common right wing tactic, and they are playing you like a fiddle. You realise that the national guard are being paid extra for this deployment, right? They aren't doing this shit for free? If you want the streets to be cleaned, you need to pay for it. And if you're not willing to pay the people whose literal job it is to do this, but are happy to pay the national guard to do it instead, then the problem is with you. Whether it's your understanding or your priorities I don't know.
1
u/kamekaze1024 Obamasjuicyass 10h ago
Dawg, they’re underfunded. The answer to shitty streets is not the deployment of militarized forces
1
u/Brothersunset 50m ago
How much of the national guards funding is dedicated to waste removal services? It seems like buying a thousand trash bags and some grippy sticks and walking around is all they need.
DC sanitation has 1500 employees and a budget of 187million. Deploying the 2300 national guardsmen at $24,000/year is a total cost of 55m. We can do this 3 times a year and still have it be cheaper than the DC sanitation and they do a better job.
Why is the solution to poorly run public programs to throw more money at the problem instead of restructuring and prioritizing efficiency in government?

I think it’s good too
That said, how much does it actually cost to mobilise and have the guard stay in DC compared to having property working system?

u/PTSDDeadInside 16h ago
it's better to try to prevent a problem from happening than mitigating it you should hire the National Guard to shoot people that litter on site.

You’re clowning on them because they’re helping clean up a community in need?

I mean unless it's part time 24k a year is a joke. That's 2k dollars a month
24
u/KenBoCole 13h ago
It is part time. For the most part, National Guards only have to work an weekend every month for training, and ann2 week training period once an year.
They have legal protection that forces companies to accommodate this, and if they get mobilized they cant be fired for missing a few months of work.
And in the case they do get mobilized, they get paid extra.
Not too bad an deal.

u/crispybrojangle 2h ago
Have you never had to endure a commercial from the Guard or Reserves? Its LITERALLY part time work. If you never got mobilized it would be even less than part time.

community in need
What the neighborhood/community needs is not the national guard. That's the joke. But I'm glad they're doing something productive if they're gonna be there.

Those guys out there rn are earning on a rate more than 24k a year. O-1 makes over 6k a month on orders. Don't know how much the lower enlisted make a month but I'm sure it's more than 24k on orders in the national guard

One of the inevitable paths of a subreddit:
-Default Reddit moment political posting
-Sipsteafication (straight up racism/misoginy with a bit of hornyposting)
-196-fication (femboy this, trans that, and more hornyposting)

u/FieryTacos 3h ago
Ended up unfollowing pics and a few other subs as all the politics getting shoved down my feed just started to feel a bit too much.

Pfft when i was in the guard all we did was provide a “military prescence”. Look at these guys getting all the action.

u/ThePoop_Accelerates 14h ago
Oh no they lowering crime rates and cleaning up the public spaces this is horrible
-11
u/ParsnipLiving 14h ago
Imagine thinking they have any impact on crime
14
u/ThePoop_Accelerates 13h ago
Imagine thinking they have zero affect. Imagine being mad that people are cleaning up a neighborhood.

Crime rates have been in a significant decline since the 90s. There was only an uptick post Covid but it was on the decline again. But poor big balls got his ass best by a teenage boy and girl lmao

u/ThePoop_Accelerates 14h ago
Okay so let's just stop making things better because a long time ago it was worse

it's obvious to me that most of the commenters here have never spent time serving in the military in the US. one of the greatest skills I learned while enlisted was cleaning.

u/LustyArgonianButtler 9h ago
I feel sorry for them for when they will get to new york, that place is almoast just as worse as a trash dump.
2
u/Tankninja1 DefinitelyNotEuropeans 12h ago
More than they usually do just driving trucks in a circle once a month.
1
u/eMmDeeKay_Says 8h ago
Man, good thing those guys are doing that and not working at their actual jobs where they probably make better money. At least he's pissing them off so they won't listen to him when it comes time to think for themselves.

The hypocrisy of the left--put on their halos to help the poor and mock the poor when they try to better themselves
5
u/EfficaciousJoculator 16h ago
They're mocking the system that keeps them poor even after they've tried to better themselves, moron.
-1
u/OneeGrimm 15h ago
Daymn system keeps me poor!.
2
u/EfficaciousJoculator 10h ago
When the system caps your pay at $24,000 (a poverty wage), then yeah. It's the system's fault. Shouldn't our armed service members be paid enough to fucking survive? Much less be forced to pick up trash rather than their actual jobs for that same meager pay.

This is also every military base in the US. Usually well kept (from a litter point of view).
