you need to flip the texts. it makes no sense unless the compulsive liar is awarding himself with believing his own lies

Pathological lying is part of mental illness, it is a symptom. It's sad really, because sometimes they really have no idea if their memory is a lie they made or something that actually happened. I myself have struggled with pathological lying, it isn't just lying to make yourself look better or to shift blame, it can also be really stupid shit. It isn't even always conscious, after trauma or anxiety your brain can rationalize and lie to you, and you just start to believe it. Now that i am aware of the pattern i am able to stop myself.
