Imo, dubbing videos is just stupid. How are you supposed to get comfortable and learn the language if you are not exposing yourself to a foreign language?

Translating titles is worse and you can't even turn it off

Google has started to auto AI translate all reddit posts when I try to find stuff or opinions in my native language. Haven't seen any way to turn it off.
It's so fucking badly translated. I can't fathom why the fuck they are doing this.

i've noticed that as well, it even translates the posts to languages i haven't even considered learning in the first place

I hate the google result translation and then hiding it in the AI result. whenever I look up something law related it just takes the top result and spits it out as if it's my local law. have to keep sharp and realize the AI will just lie to me

no, youtube. I don't need shitty ai translators that don't work properly when i have captions (a better way of knowing what someone is saying)

even then I've had Korean captions appear out of nowhere when clicking a new video. I have the devices on Spanish and also speak English, where thee fuq is Korean coming from?

I’ve occasionally had that happen, but with arabic subtitles, when I’ve never watched or done anything with that language

The shitty ai translates foraighn titles into your native language and its infuriating. Im german but can speak fluid english, just let me have the english title if the video is in english.

This! I hate that YouTube decides for me that I'll only get content in one language. I want to see everything in the original language, even if I don't understand it, so I at least know which country the video is from, and if I want to, I can switch to the translation myself. But instead, the titles of English videos are translated into my language, and if I switch to English in the settings, videos from my country are translated into English, which is so annoying. I think we should make more of a big deal out of the fact that YouTube supposedly knows better than you how to get foreign content.

I am getting a stroke trying to get YouTube to just show me a video title in its og language.
Like ffs, I watch content in three languages, why are all the titles in English? WHERE DO IT TURN THAT OFF?

First time i encountered the ai dub, i thought the youtuber was the one who put it. It made almost no sense and the guy was just saying random shit which made me check settings and found out about it

It's wild how platforms assume we all want everything translated. I'd much rather have the option to hear the original audio, especially for language learning. Forcing a dub just removes the authenticity of the creator's actual voice. It really does feel like a weirdly monolingual approach to a global audience.

Nah, youtube makes it worse, even if i change all youtube settings it still translates video titles and puts polish subtitles into everything, especially on youtube music.
I was once confused when "the amazing Digital Circus" was in Polish

I have every setting as english, picked usa as my location, my entire device is english with no other languages installed.
Idk what sorcery they use but I still get videos translated to my native language as default

How stupid must you be to not allow users to toggle such a massive feature. None of this would be an issue if I could just turn it off. Now I have to use another stupid fucking thingy (extension?) on Firefox.

Eng is not my native but I feel like I'm better at it than my useless one. The less translation the less there are errors. Shit even Android phones in finnish are nonsense since they try to force-translate clearly a foreign words. Like thank god Bluetooth is trademarked, if not it would be translated as is.

Everyone's talking about AI dubs, but this is my first time hearing about them. And I watch content in (mainly 2) but sometimes up to 4 languages.

u/arix_games 10h ago
It probably comes down to who you watch. I think enabling AI dubbing is on the uploaders end, and some people disable it while others don't

I made this meme with auto translated titles in mind since you can turn off dub

I average about 1 video a month for my native language everything else is English I consume English speaking media and rarely my native tongue

u/CatCatPizza 13h ago
I feel like its the opposite. Youtube forces native language automaticly with crappy ai dubs while I want it in original english.
