I've been on reddit for 7 years now. For the first 5 I was mostly just checking what's happening and only using the subreddits that made sense to me. Only in the past two years have I started posting and commenting. Also I think the fear of sounding stupid online and getting torched for it was a real fear.

Actually Reddit helped me to overcome this fear of expressing my opinion and saying something stupid.

After starting to comment, I found out that no matter what you say, if your comment is visible for a large group of people, someone is going to upvote you. Someone is going to agree. It gave me confidence.

And when people didn't agree, when I got downvoted or even attacked by trolls with personal insults, it wasn't as scary as I imagined. You still have the right to your own opinion, and karma is worthless anyways. If someone is being rude, they're only making themselves look bad.

So now I'm braver in real life as well.

Same here. sometimes I do miss the peace of not having people call me stupid for having a different opinion but part of me loves it lmao

For me being called stupid by redditors is like being called stupid by children. If anyone is bothered by reddit comments they might actually be stupid

Lol I got called a "fat fuck" because I am on the progress pics sub and some dude got offended by some joke I made on a completely different sub. But it also made me realize just as much as there are wholesome communities, there are dung-piles of people so I deleted a lot of content from my profile.

Just hit 10 years yesterday. I still don’t give a fuck about posting/commenting, and let everyone else do all the work. As this comment shows, I have nothing constructive to add to pretty much anything.

Same here, my account is over 10 years, often times I typed something then ended up deleting everything, because I don’t want to reveal too much about myself and I’m afraid of getting judged.

There are tons of people and bots caught up in their own opinions and algorithms. Doesn't really matter what anyone thinks, just stay true to yourself (:

First time admitting it online, but- I like bringing up controversy to see why and how truly strong people believe what they say they do. If they really do believe in what I contradict, it's not hard to tell. If they are sucked into their own confirmation bias it's even easier. The bonus is that I get a new perspective each time.

But honestly....Fuck what other people think when it relates to your own ideals that dont take away from the liberties of others. You do you! (:

I don’t mind getting torched on the internet, that’s why I like Reddit. I can just say what I want - I’m glad not every opinion I have is popular with middle school kids
