I didn’t realize people thought pov wasn’t point of view until these memes showed up

u/Kevintheretard6312 Jul 11 '21

What do they think it stands for?

For what I seem to understand from the usual confusion around POV memes is that it's being used on tiktok to describe a viewpoint or an opinion. In French a point de vue is a viewpoint and is used as a way to describe an opinion.

For example, POV : this thing is stupid.

In that case it's an opinion and it's confusing a lot of people because they don't see this as the usual POV term used to describe video game cameras or porn shoot in first person with fake siblings.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm saying some people really confuse the meaning of POV to be literally only a first person view of something like in video games and porn. It's not used the same way if you search POV on pornhub than you would see being used on social media.

So they see a post like I described and comment things like "I don't think you know what POV means"

u/Sepoohroth Jul 11 '21

I appreciate this analysis but on tik tok I highly doubt it’s a case of a misused French phrase, I think it’s just idiots absolutely misunderstanding what POV means, lol

Like what?

u/BronzeMilk08 [custom flair] Jul 11 '21

its actually used sometimes as "plot of video" but they made it the same acronym is "perspective of view" and it just makes them look like a dumbass idk why they dont just use "plot"

u/DankLoser12 Balls Jul 11 '21

I thought POV means like puff you suddenly came into this situation. Honestly I wanna stick to this meaning than the point of view, in the end it's the same idea

40

u/WifeTookTheKids420 Jul 11 '21

If they're the same idea why did you have to explain it instead of just saying POV

-24

u/DankLoser12 Balls Jul 11 '21

What

24

u/WifeTookTheKids420 Jul 11 '21

The fact that you had to explain your idea means they're not the same

-29

u/DankLoser12 Balls Jul 11 '21 edited Jul 11 '21

I didn't had to, I wanted to explain how I look at POV and understood it, different definition but in the end it doesn't make much difference. Your statement doesn't make much sense but is rather a weak prejudgemental statement, let people explain what they want.

yah I don't know why you were downvoted so hard... I like your definition better too (even though I knew what POV stood for) out of curiosity, what did you think it stood for?

2

u/hfjsbdugjdbducbf Jul 11 '21
