When did 'edgy' become a good thing? All it tells me is OP is too stupid to be funny without resorting to shock humor.

Agreed. Edgy is fine when you’re like 10-13 years old, anytime after that you’re just a bitter loser.

Edgy is neither good or bad. It just is.

When people who are actually hateful use “edgy” to disguise their views, it becomes bad.

When “edgy” is used against people who hold those views, it’s good.

An amount of “edgy” is a tool and a double edged weapon.

I think of edgy humor like hot sauce. A little bit here and there can add a little bit of fun and flavor to jokes here and there, but if it’s just edgy all the time, it’s like you poured ghost peppers all over the dish, and now all you can taste is heat, no flavor.

And yes, intent is a huge factor. Are you punching up, sideways, or down? Are you actually hateful, or we just clowning around, and everyone involved understands?

Exactly this

"Ironic" is when I tell my sister she has to stay in the kitchen because that's where women belong. She doesn't take offense coz she knows it's bants and pushes back by saying I'm built like a gorilla and belong in the zoo. Does this mean I'm misogynist? Absolutely not. Actual edgelords I've met irl are unbearable and it's not funny when they overdo things knowing their intentions aren't right
