Most likely just an idiot driver.

On the phone, doing their makeup, listing to a podcast, reading the newspaper; nowadays, people are doing ANYTHING but paying attention to their driving on the roadway, that’s why I’m not surprised when this happens.

We can’t listen to podcasts while driving now?!?

SOME people cannot, no…Not everyone is as capable as others. If you’re unsure, might ask others around you.

or its idiot AI trained on data gathered from idiot drivers...

Wasn't their big thing when they came out the side cameras that can detect other cars around them?

It detects and warns you. If you're an idiot driver, it doesn't prevent you from doing something like this.

no that’s been a thing on normal cars for years. my in laws’ old honda odyssey has the side cameras.

Not sure what detect means. After more than a decade they finally just got blind spot warning lights like a year ago through a software update. For cars before 2025 this is just an audio ding and a red flash on the center screen—not even near the mirror. Some recent 2025’s and after have a tiny orange light kinda near the mirrors. I installed my own aftermarket blind spot monitors that work with the car’s computer. Almost like they were going to factory install them and then didn’t. Besides the CEO, it’s really the only thing I don’t like about the car.

If you’re in full self driving mode it can detect cars and “evade” them better than a human could, but otherwise if the driver is fully taking control of the car all it can do is blind spot and possibly detect from a further distance but it’s the driver and all the driver has to do is look in their peripheral and they’ll see a red light on (which means someone’s in the blind spot.) As well as if you have the new models the camera actually pops up on the screen when you have the signal on, though consequentially you have to look to your right and somewhat lower to even look at the camera (even though you’re trying to merge to the left.) There are some major flaws with everything being on a screen.

Maybe a passenger can look at the screen and scream if it's not clear but that's not a very reliable fallback.

Can't fix idiots with technology

Good argument for using your turn signal....before you turn

This is exactly it. Had they used their blinker the car would be warning them not to continue. I don’t even have a Tesla and my vehicle does it. I always try to use my blinker if nothing else but for the second opinion that it gives me.

Funny thing to me is that my mother's 2020 Toyota RAV4 would light an indicator on the side view mirror when a vehicle was in her blind spot without the turn signal even on. Thought Teslers were supposed to be 'more advanced' 🤷🤣

As if anyone else could be more important than them. Pshaw!

I want cars to show when they are controlling themselves (like a single green LED along the brake lights) so people will know that the car may drive irrationally. I think Mercedes had something going along this lines on their cars

You think human drivers drive rationally?

Ideally front and rear. Teslas have a history of not recognizing motorcycles as solid objects so it'd be nice to know if I'm in danger of being run over.

It’s totally ready for fully autonomous self driving, just ignore the last 5 years of traffic incidents and the non-usage of Lidar systems and the fact it FAILED A WILE E COYOTE joke.

Not sure if this would be full self driving, or just a driver not paying attention. I had someone pull into my lane and sideswipe my Tesla a few weeks ago and they had no insurance. My car could have avoided it with FSD being active, but they turned into me right after I started going past them and I couldn't see it.

Have you checked? Might be like a Sixth Sense thing.

This is my biggest concern when approaching the end of an exit lane.  Ppl with poop for brains bail out of the exit lane at the last minute.  Also ppl trying to get into the exit lane at the last minute.  I'd recommend not to pass ppl at these terrible points in on the freeway.

Driver definitely got a warning tone and red car flash on their screen so they know they messed up. That's apology worthy, should've apologized to you for that one.

Thoughtless drivers seem to feel that the newer safety technology will keep them safer, so they think even less and pay even less attention than before.

No blinker, no hesitation, no brains

Typical Tesla dumbass ! Wouldn’t stand a chance against my pickup.

Almost had something similar but with a Nissan suv, this is just plain bad driver error. We should get some European drivers Ed teachers, now THEY know how to drive and not just safely. Heck, we should enforce European standards for drivers education, we'd have a lot less accidents and better drivers.

Love the breaking to go into a faster lane

I’m convinced the almost instant response of electric acceleration has made people much worse drivers.
